The Maschhoffs’ Partners Band Together for Greater CauseThe Maschhoffs, LLC recently teamed up with its Production Partners to raise $14,000 in support of GoServ Global, a non-denominational faith-based organization that provides humanitarian aid to vulnerable communities around the world. Representatives from The Maschhoffs presented a check to GoServ Global co-founder Ken DeYoung recently. GoServ Global works with Sukup Manufacturing to build Safe T Homes®, otherwise known as modified grain bins. These homes serve as durable housing in hurricane-prone areas. When Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti in October 2016, with winds up to 145 miles per hour, all 200 Safe T Homes withstood the hurricane with minimal damage, and housed additional people who lost their homes. Nick Andersen, a Production Partner from Iowa, heard of GoServ Global’s efforts and decided to get involved with the fundraising effort. He reached out to fellow Production Partners and several of The Maschhoffs’ employees. “Originally I wanted to garner enough support to build one Safe T Home on behalf of The Maschhoffs,” Andersen says. “Between the 12 of us who donated and the Community Partnership Program match from The Maschhoffs, we were able to exceed that goal and raise enough to donate two Safe T Homes for shelter in Haiti.” The Community Partnership Program supports Production Partner and employee efforts both on the farm and in their communities. At the Library & Advertising

At the Library with Glenda MulderJuly 26, 2017

If you’re reading this on Wednesday the 26th and it’s before 1 o’clock, come join the excitement of Pockets Full of Fun puppet show! Come even if you’re a little late, we’ll have a puppet making workshop after the show! Can you tell I’m slightly excited about this? We’ve hosted them for a couple years and it is always a wonderful show, tailored around the Summer Reading theme. Next week the ISU Extension Service will join us. Rumor has it we will be engineering spaghetti towers and building our own snacks! The fun is at LPL Wednesdays at 1 o’clock. Also don’t forget LegoMania all day every Friday! Both programs will continue until the kids are back in school. A couple weeks ago I had a fun opportunity. Bonnie McKewon from the State Library called and asked if I would be a guest acting Library Director for one of her classes in Public Library Management. This is the class that new librarians take to give them an idea what they are in for! (And to get certified.) The classes are now webinars (I did mine on the ICN!) – participants and teachers can be anywhere in the world as long as there is a good Internet connection. The particular class I did was titled, "Roles, Relationships, and Regulations." It was a good

refresher for me, and I could offer my personal experiences from being the director here for eleven years. We

discussed the library part of the town’s bylaws, library policies, who’s responsible for the different jobs that make our library run smoothly. As with any

job, there is way more to learn than I ever expected! Have you heard all the talk of the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st? When the opportunity arose, I ordered a box of 1,000 pairs of free eclipse viewing glasses! That seemed a bit excessive, but the other choice was 100 and I wasn’t sure that was enough! So, we’ve been sharing with our area library friends. We are starting to put some plans together for this. Corrinne Peterson, Pocahontas County Naturalist will be here at 7 p.m. Monday, evening August 7th to give us all (kids and adults are all welcome!) some advance education. She will also be here the day of the eclipse, August 21st, around noontime and we will be doing something fun so plan to join us if you can! We have a couple odd things in our library lost & found. We have a slightly scratched glasses lens and a keychain with a rhinestone P attached. Also we are down to just one kid size jacket hanging in the lobby. Are these yours? Please come get them!
