I investigated how well the Brooklyn Public Library system covers its various communities, what po-tential services it can offer for optimal growth, how it can tailor its activity programming for spe-cific neighborhoods’ needs, and what challenges it faces, as the 21st century idea of the library evolves. The drawing below is a subway map for a Brooklyn Public Library user. It includes a quarter mile walkshed circumference, so users can quickly estimate how far they would have to walk to a giv-en library near their subway stop. It also includes the actual path a user would take to get to a library.

Minimal HouseThis 2,500 cubic feet house is imbedded in the side of a mountain, ideally occupied by a bird-watcher. The birdwatcher can look out into the tree line at eye level from the deck.

Collective Housing // The Stacks ------ Second Year Studio (Spring 2019)

The Stacks is a collective housing block located on the two main parking lots of the Charlottesville Down-stown Mall. The apartment complex consists of stacked apartments, a stair core and an elevator at each end. The tallest building is on the east side and is 65 feet tall while the shortest building is 24 feet tall. This sloped series replicates the heights of the surrounding buildings, as to respect the site. The stacked nature of the apartment allows for each unit to get maximum sunlight and balcony space. There is shopping and retail space below the apartments on the first level as well, as facilities for the residents. The farmers market will also reside in the ground level. The stairs’ criss-crossed form allows for user choice, as they can chose which staircase to use depending on their location in the building and their desire to go up or down. Apart-ments can be entered from the balcony or front door. The Stacks is about user choice as well as the idea that everyone deserves ample natural light.

Vicenza Program // Drawing The Veneto Region ------ Second Year Study Abroad (Summer 2019)

This summer I drew in the Veneto Region of Italy. I started from having no formal drawing classes and no ex-perience drawing buildings or landscapes. I improved steadily over the five week program and learned how to draw from studying the place through territories, cultures, and time. I drew on average 5 drawings a day and through repetition, became faster at analyzing a space and picking up on key forms and important details. Each of these drawings took me roughly 30 - 45 minutes. I believe my practice of hand drawing helps me in my daily practices and when proposing designs.
