Laurel School happily offers enriched, supervised Aer-School Care for children in Preschool through Eighth Grade fromdismissal until 6:00 p.m., when schoolis in session. In order to provide theappropriate setting for each student,we divide our programs by grades.

e following options are available:

Preschool–Grade 4 • SUPERVISED PLAY

Supervised Play offers a quiet space for homework, a relaxing place to read a book,enjoy a snack or a place to run and play. Pre-Registration is required. Families maychoose coverage for the full semester or by the day. Pricing per day varies based on thenumber of days we meet each semester and holidays. Classes are purchased separately.Tuition and fees are stated as follows:

Grades 5–8 • MIDDLE SCHOOL DEN

Life in the Middle School isn’t predictable. School Plays, Middle School Sports andother Extracurricular Programming demand flexible options for Middle Schoolparents. All Middle School students who remain at Laurel aer 3:45 p.m. are required to be under the supervision of an adult, either through the Middle School Den or inother structured programs such as clubs, rehearsals, or sports. For this reason, we offerspecial pricing options for our Middle School families.

e Middle School Den provides a supervised, comfortable environment for studentswhen they are not involved in an aer-school activity. Students involved in MiddleSchool Activities who are not picked up at the conclusion of the activity will be sent tothe Middle School Den which meets in the Crile Library and will be billed a drop-in fee for the day.

TRADITIONAL PRIVATE LESSONS

Laurel School Music Academy offers private instruction in the following instruments*:• Violin • Viola • Cello • Bass • Piano • Flute • French Horn

All of our faculty members are accomplished performers and teachers with advanceddegrees from highly reputable universities and conservatories. Many of our teachersare also on faculty at institutions such as e Cleveland Institute of Music, e MusicSettlement and Cleveland State University.

Cost: $480 per semester for a 30-minute lesson (longer lessons are pro-rated)

SUZUKI PROGRAM

More than fiy years ago, Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki realized that children learnto speak their native language with ease. He applied the basic principles of languageacquisition to the learning of music and called his method the mother-tongue approach.e ideas of parent responsibility, loving encouragement and constant repetition are some of the special features of the Suzuki approach.

Laurel School Music Academy is pleased to offer Suzuki instruction which will consist of a weekly group class and a weekly private lesson in the following instruments:

• Violin • Cello • Piano

Suzuki lessons are offered to students ages four and older. Private lessons will be scheduled based on the availability of the teacher, student and parent. Group classes will be held between 3:30 and 4:15 p.m. on ursday aernoons.

Cost: $630 per semester

CHAMBER MUSIC CLASSES

ese classes are open to Middle School and UpperSchool students who are currently taking private lessonsand who have at least a year of experience on theirinstrument. Students will be placed in small groups basedon age and technical ability and will receive a forty-fiveminute weekly group lesson with a member of the MusicAcademy’s esteemed faculty.

Cost: $240 per semester

ROCK BAND CLASSES

Middle School and Upper School guitarists, drummers and vocalists will be placed in small groups accordingto age and ability. Students must be enrolled in private lessons to ensure that each member of the band is ableto play her individual part. Each band will receive aforty-five minute weekly group lesson with facultymember Joshua Stauffer.

Cost: $240 per semester

All Laurel School Music Academy students will have multipleperformance opportunities at Music Academy Recitals.

Laurel School Music Academy offers two fieen-week semesters during the 2013-2014school year. All lessons take place at Laurel’s Lyman Campus between the hours of 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. Aer School at Laurel offers aer-care coverage at a discounted rate to Music Academy students on the days of their lessons.

e NEW Laurel School WorldLanguages Academy is designedto expose students entering Grades3-8 to a second or third languagewhile participating in both formaland fun activities adapted to the student’s age. Researchdemonstrates that learning asecond language makes learninga third and fourth exponentiallyeasier, particularly if one starts atan early age. We are pleased tooffer classes in American SignLanguage, Arabic and Italian.Each class experience will buildyour child’s confidence incommunicating in anotherlanguage and will developawareness of a different culture.Language instruction isaccompanied by many hands-on,student-centered activities in art,design, dance and music.

Class sizes are small and taught by native speakers, who are eitherLaurel faculty or experiencedlanguage teachers. Individualattention and speaking practice are emphasized in class.

INLET DANCE THEATRE

Inlet Dance eatre is one of the region’s most exciting professional contemporary dancecompanies. e mission of Inlet Dance eatre is to create and perform innovativedance and movement theatre at a high level of artistry, speak creatively about human lifeissues, and bring about personal development in the lives of individuals through trainingand mentoring.

Inlet’s Class Offerings are taught by the professional dancers of Inlet Dance eatre. Inlettrains students of all ages and skill levels to use dance as a transformative agent. Studentsare introduced to Hawkins-based Release Technique and are guided through explorationof space, music and movement of the body. Technique focuses on control, strength,flexibility and mind-body integration. Students begin to develop core strength, anincreased range of motion, coordination and a strong sense of ensemble. Performanceimprovisation skills and non-traditional partnering may be introduced.

ALL LEVELS - Students are featured in a community-wide performance at the end ofthe year. Two complimentary tickets are included in tuition.

LAUREL COOKS(Grades 3-6) Mondays, 3:30-4:30 p.m. • Cost: $250 per semester Students will create delicious recipes straight from the garden and explore the basics ofcooking and baking with members of Laurel's very own Dining Services Team.

ADVENTURE GIRLS(Grades 5-6) Tuesdays; (Grades 3-4) Wednesdays3:30-5:00 p.m. • Cost: $300 per semesterStudents will be introduced to exciting adventures through games, indoor and outdooractivities and the use of the Project Adventure Course at the Butler Campus. is club will:

Plus, students will have a good time and make new friends! Field trips will includeindoor rock climbing, cross-country skiing, hiking or tobogganing.

Students are engaged in stimulating, playful activities that enhance theirphysical and emotional abilities.

YOGA(Grades 2-4) ursdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m. • Cost: $200 per semester A perfect ending to the school day! Students will learn the basic poses of yoga andbreathing through age-appropriate techniques. is class introduces children to a fitnessregime which can continue throughout their lives.

TAE KWON DO(Kindergarten-Grade 12) Fridays, 3:30-4:45 p.m.Cost: $250 per semester Taught by instructors from T & T Martial Arts Studio, this class promotes the values of responsibility, humility and courage as well as physical and mental fitness.

GYMNASTICS(Preschool & Prekindergarten) ursdays, 3:30-4:30 p.m.Cost: $250 per semester is class is designed to help young students improve body awareness throughmovement and reach developmental milestones. Low-level equipment including balancebeams, balance blocks, tumbling mats, hanging bars, parachutes and ropes are used toimprove strength, balance, flexibility and coordination. Fun games are introduced tokeep the children motivated and active.

CREATIVE CONNECTIONS(Grades 3-8) Fridays, 3:30-4:30 p.m.Cost: $250 per semester A great way to start the weekend, this class will engage students as they explore creativity through many different mediums including cooking, sewing, jewelry design,art projects and much more.

DAYS/TIMES:Aer School at Laurel follows the standard school calendar. When Laurel School is insession for only half a day or is not in session at all, Aer School does NOT meet. AerSchool at Laurel will NOT meet the very last day of school.

e fall semester begins August 26, 2013 (September 3 for Pre-Primary) and endsDecember 19, 2013. Classes will not meet the week of anksgiving. e spring semesterbegins January 6, 2014, and ends June 5, 2014. When classes are not meeting, students arewelcome to attend Supervised Play or the Middle School Den under the Drop-In option.

PICK UP:Pick-up from Aer-School Classes/Supervised Play isin Laurel’s Pre-Primary Circle. Please call 216-455-0153to have your child escorted to the door. Pick-up fromthe Middle School Den will be at the main entrance toLaurel. Please call 216-455-0142 to have your childdismissed. Late pick-up fees will be levied.
