What is Latino Heritage Month? By Abod and West

For Latino Heritage Month we studied Mexico. We learned about what kinds of food Mexicans eat. We also learned about the holidays that they celebrate. We researched what kinds of houses they use to make, and the ancient people that used to live there before the Europeans came. We studied Mexico, you can study anything Spanish.

Spanish speaking people. In the past month we’ve studied a lot about

Mexico and Mexico’s history.

Where is Mexico Located?By Kristin

• Mexico is a Latin American country just south of the United states. There are two oceans that surround Mexico – the Pacific Ocean, and the Gulf of Mexico. The Pacific Ocean is on the west, And the Gulf of Mexico is on the east. Mexico has states just like the U.S does. There are 31 states in Mexico.

• Spanish is Mexico's primary language.

• They have a different way of pronouncing common Spanish like adding o for boys and a for girls.

• They have at least one hundred different languages.

• Some of their language comes from the Mayans or Aztecs.

The kids in Mexico have to wear special uniforms to school. They study math history and science. They have gym and recess. They start school at age six. They study for nine years.

Who Was Diego Rivera?By Sydney, Katelyn & Hailey

• Diego Rivera was a famous artist who died in 1957. He was famous for painting large colorful murals. Diego painted what he saw in everyday life. His brother died of a terrible illness. So Diego Rivera had to live the rest of his life alone. When Diego was 13 he went to art school but Diego didn`t want to paint what the teachers wanted him to paint.

• Diego’s dad put chalk boards all around his walls because he loved drawing. He drew tons of trains on his chalkboard wall. Diego made 5000 toy soldiers when he was a kid.

• When he was a grown up artist Diego started panting in a new style. It was called murals.

Diego Rivera ended up painting murals because he wanted everybody to see his paintings. Murals are in public so everyone could see them not just tourists who go to museums. Also on murals you can fit lots of different things.

Who is Rufino Tamayo?By Madilyn

• Rufino Tamayo was a wonderful artist. He was born in 1899 and died in 1991 at the age of 92 in Mexico City.

• At 12 years old, his parents passed away and he lived with an aunt who worked in a fruit stand.

• His ancestors were Zapotec Indians from the south of Mexico.

•Rufino Tamayo entered the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in 1917. He soon left to study on his own.

• Four years later(1921), Rufino Tamayo became head designer of the National Museum of Archaeology in Mexico City

• He was surrounded by very old objects, like the Aztec Sun Stone. That would be important to the type of art he created.

His art became famous quickly. He had his first art shows in 1926 in Mexico City and New York.

Rufino Tamayo didn’t make art about politics

like other Mexican artists, he preferred childlike art.

He completed it in 1946. I think it looks like they

are dancing in the moon light. I wonder how he got the idea. Or if he felt something during the time. I think the painting shows Happy not sad. What do you think?
