GOLDSTEIN CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE HELPS RAISE $2,020 FOR FORTS FERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
LATHAM – Recently, Goldstein Chrysler Jeep Dodge helped Forts Ferry El-ementary School raise $2,020 at a “Drive for the Kids®” fundraising event held during the school’s Carnival. Participants earned a $10 contribution to the school from the Chrysler brand by taking a brief test drive in a 2015 model Town & Country, Chrysler 200, or Chrysler 300 vehicle during the event. Since its inception in 1993, the Chrysler brand’s “Drive for the Kids®” program has contributed more than $6 million directly to local schools. The program has helped parents and educators in communities across the nation raise needed funds for everything from playgrounds and field trips, to reading programs and new computers. For more information, visit www.drive4kids.com.

THE JOYFUL NOISE, “WE ARE ONE”
CAPITAL DISTRICT – The Joyful Noise was a contemporary Christian music ministry well known in the Capital District re-gion and beyond, during the years of 1969-1993. The Joyful Noise was a large group of young people, led spiritually and musically by Mr. Bill Womer. The Joyful Noise was the core of what would later evolve into “Christian Music Ministries”. The positive side of social media, as well as the unfortunate pass-ing of key members, has stirred interest in a reunion of The Joyful Noise, with the recognition, that still, “We are One”. A reunion is planned for October 10, 2015 focused on reunit-ing and catching up. The reunion will culminate with a bar-beque dinner and an evening Praise and Worship service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Many of the songs spanning three decades when young lives were forever impacted by this experience will be sung together again. We will also be including all the parents and family members in the Satur-day night service who supported each of us during our “JN” years. During these early planning stages we are interested in help locating former members, and identifying folks to assist on various committees that have been formed. Please visit the Facebook page for Christian Music Ministries if you are a former member and want to connect, or contact us at [email protected]

HELP FOR SCHOOL-AGE
CHILDREN WHO STUTTER
CAPITAL DISTRICT - Stutter-ing is a frustrating and em-barrassing problem for mil-lions of people, but it can be especially tough on elemen-tary school-age children. Help is available for parents, teachers, and speech-lan-guage pathologists at most public libraries in the form of a DVD designed to help school-age children who stutter. Some libraries have an older video version. The DVD features students from first through sixth grade, some of whom talk about their experiences with stut-tering. They talk openly about the teasing they face from classmates and how their stuttering sometimes makes them feel about themselves. The 38-minute DVD, entitled Therapy in Ac-tion: The School-age Child Who Stutters, produced by the 67-year-old nonprofit Stuttering Foundation is available free of charge to public libraries nationwide. Other libraries that will shelve it can contact the Foundation at 1-800-992-9392, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.stutteringhelp.org or www.tartarmudez.org.

SUMMER SPECIALS(NAPS)—As the weather gets warm, vacationers will begin to set their sights on the open road. Whether it’s to get up close to that landmark that you’ve always wanted to see, visit old friends or visit extended family who live just a few states away, road trips offer great flexibility and excitement.
While just about any vehicle will serve its purpose for a road trip, there are ways to modify a car or truck to make the ex-perience more convenient and comfortable. In fact, the Spe-cialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) estimates that Americans spend $33 billion annually on products that en-hance the performance and styling of today’s vehicles.
“There is something exhilarating about a leisurely drive, whether it’s sitting in a comfortable air-conditioned car with a great sound system or in a convertible with the top down,” said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA VP of communications and events. “What’s really great is being able to personalize the vehicle to fit the needs of the drivers and passengers.”
Below are a few tips and tricks on how you can make your vehicle ready for your next big road trip.
• To protect the vehicle’s exterior from any rocky weather and/or road conditions, a paint protection film is an effec-tive way to preserve the finish of your car, truck or SUV. For best results, this film should be professionally installed and applied on areas such as the hood, bumpers, mirror backs and other places that might be prone to scratches and chips.
• Don’t underestimate the impact a good navigation system can have on your road trip. Aftermarket GPS and navigation systems with state-of-the-art technologies can be installed in just about any vehicle. Starting as low as $50, there are tons of options available to help you stay within your budget and get you to your destination.
• Finding enough space is often a problem encountered when traveling on a road trip. To make room for personal items, consider a roof rack or cargo box to transport large pieces of luggage. Organizers for the trunk, center console and on the back of seats are available to help keep items in order and in arms’ reach.
• A wireless tire pressure monitoring system can give you an accurate reading of your tire pressure at all times. By having sensors on each of the tires, the air pressure can be moni-tored and sent directly to your smartphone device, alerting you when one or more of your tires is low on pressure. This can help minimize any tire problems you might run into.
Regardless of how you modify your vehicle, it’s always a good idea to have a roadside emergency kit in tow. Premade kits include items such as jumper cables, a flashlight, emergency whistle and a first-aid kit. You never know when you might need these things, so it is better to be safe than sorry.
Wherever you’re headed, there are a variety of different au-tomotive aftermarket products and accessories available to modify your vehicle in preparation for a road trip. To learn more and find out where these products are available to you, visit www.semaignited.com. Your next trip can take you further along the road to fun if you make a few entertaining changes to your vehicle.

MOTORCYCLES FOR SALE
1998 Honda Shadow 1100 ccTour ACE. Very good condi-tion. Extra parts. Asking $8300. 580-8708 (StatePoint) For teens, getting
behind a wheel can seem like an exciting taste of freedom. But too much leeway too soon can have dangerous results. Car crashes are the number one killer of teens, and half of all teens will be involved in a car crash before graduating high school, reports the Na-tional Safety Council (NSC).
Luckily, states with a Teen Safe Driving Coalition are helping change the game. The Coali-tions -- comprised of state and local government, law enforcement, public health agencies, traffi c safety and in-jury prevention organizations, academia, businesses, teens, parents and crash survivors -- were established by NSC and The Allstate Foundation. They have worked at the grassroots level for the last four years to educate parents and teens about the risks of teen driving. Coalitions exist in California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas to off er solutions for parents to help teens be safer.
The results have been eff ec-tive. Crashes involving 15- to 17- year-old drivers in Coali-tion states have dropped nearly 34 percent since the Coalitions were established four years ago, whereas non-coalition states have expe-rienced just a 19.5 percent drop, according to NSC analy-sis of federal fatality data.
The Coalitions’ success is in part because they promote a program that indisputably saves lives. Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL), a proven method of reducing teen drivers’ crash risk by 20 to 40 percent, works by maximizing experience while minimizing common driving risks teens face, such as nighttime driving and carrying teen passengers. This allows new drivers to gain experience with less exposure to high-risk scenarios. All 50 states and D.C. have imple-mented some form of GDL.
PARENTS PLAY A BIG ROLE IN KEEPING TEEN DRIVERS SAFE
“Beyond legislation, parents have a role to play as well,” says Kathy Bernstein, senior manager of teen driving initia-tives, NSC. “As the number one resource when it comes to teaching teens to drive, par-ents should stay involved well after teens get their licenses.”
With that in mind, Bernstein is off ering some life-saving tips to families with new drivers:
• Parents should drive with teens regularly even after they receive their license. A mini-mum of 30 minutes weekly can help ensure that safe driv-ing skills are being employed.
• Talk with teens about man-aging distractions, such as phones -- both handheld and
hands-free -- the radio, other young passengers, and even beautiful roadside scenery. When teens are driving, they must stay focused on the task at hand.
• Mile for mile, 16 and 17 year-old drivers are about three times as likely to be involved in a fatal car crash at night than during the day, accord-ing to “Injury Prevention,” a peer review journal. Parents should give teens opportuni-ties to learn nighttime driving skills with an adult supervisor in the car.
• One of the best ways for teens to learn to drive is by ex-ample. So practice safe habits always.
