Blended learningWhile many groups are now back on campus for practical learning activities, most apprentices will continue to engage in some kind of online or distance learning for part of their course. Make sure you give your apprentice time for this style of learning, just as you would if they were coming in for theory classes. If your apprentice does not have computer access, they can book a computer to use onsite at one of TasTAFE’s libraries: www.tastafe.tas.edu.au/computer-bookings.

Workplace visitsPlease make sure that you have your Covid-19 Safety Plan available for our staff to access. It is an important part of our workplace assessment process, and helps us ensure the safety of our staff who are coming out to workplaces to provide assessment to apprentices.

Investing in the futureWe are committed to enhancing student learning and improving our facilities to ensure our training is responsive to industry skills needs now and into the future.Current infrastructure projects include:

$21 million to build a Trades and Water Centre of Excellence at Clarence Campus ($14 million from the Tasmanian Government and $7 million from the Australian Government). The Centre will focus on trades, water, electrotechnology and emerging skills training such as hydrogen and renewable energy. Construction is set to begin by the end of the year.

$4 million in upgrades for Alanvale Campus in Launceston are underway, and include new nursing, aged care and disability facilities, as well as ICT labs, a learning hub and other upgrades.

$1.4 million for a new health training hub at Clarence Campus was completed last month, with students now using the facilities.

New $1.5 million training kitchens at Providore Place in Devonport were completed 2019 and have been operational since September 2019.

$5 million for an Agriculture Centre of Excellence at TasTAFE’s Freer Farm in Burnie.
