Last month I attended the Love INC board meeting. Im one of 9 members on their board. At this last meeting we looked at the core values of Love INC and talked about how each impacts the work of our local Love INC for Taney and Stone Counties. Here are the core values for Love INC: We are Christian. Everything we think, say, and do is in the name of Christ. Prayer is an integral part of who we are. We follow Christs example of valuing people in need. We value the unity of the body of Christ. We value transformation in the lives of people and communities. We value churches living out the two great commandments to love God and love their neighbors. We value building Christ-like relationships. We value the connectedness of the love INC movement. We model excellence. We value continually maturing in our capacity to meet peoples needs. I share Love INCs core values because I believe we all need core values. I also be- lieve we all have core values, they just may not be what God wants them to be. At this months session meeting Ill be encouraging the elders to explore what are our, Community Presbyterian Churchs, core values. Many of Love INCs fit who we are as well, yet ours will be specific to our being Community Presbyterian Church Forsyth, Missouri. A question for each of us is; what are our core values and do we live them out? The core values that stand out to me are; Christ centered, prayer, value transfor- mation and maturing in Christ. In many ways, September marks the beginning of a new year. A new school year has started. Here at the church things turn to our fall activities and focusing upon Gods call for us as we begin winding down one year and looking forward to the new year. Well have lots of activities in the coming month(s) that will help us continue to move forward in Christ. In the adult Sunday school class that I help lead, we have just begun a look at Paul s letter to the church in Rome. In a very real sense this is Paul s systematic theology. This would be one way that one might seek to grow in Christ in this new school year. Here are a few things I want to highlight that are in this newsletter: Eastern Taney County Day of Sharing, community Thanksgiving meal. This is an ex- citing opportunity for us and our community. Be praying about how you can be a part of this special community event. Then let us know how you will help. The Presbyterian Women begin their new study on Wednesday, September 21 at 1 pm. Ill be leading the first lesson and introducing the study for this year. Excellent opportunity for you to join this womens group of our church. Along with these we have our normal activities; worship, Sunday School classes for all ages, fellowship (Sept. 11 – Potluck), dinner with friends on the 18 th . Consider being a part of all these wonderful opportunities to be with Gods people. Pastor Dennis

Last month I attended the Love INC board meeting. I’m one of 9 members on their board. At this last meeting we looked at the core values of Love INC and talked about how each impacts the work of our local Love INC for Taney and Stone Counties. Here are the core values for Love INC:

We are Christian. Everything we think, say, and do is in the name of Christ.

Prayer is an integral part of who we are.

We follow Christ’s example of valuing people in need.

We value the unity of the body of Christ.

We value transformation in the lives of people and communities.

We value churches living out the two great commandments to love God and love their neighbors.

We value building Christ-like relationships.

We value the connectedness of the love INC movement.

We model excellence.

We value continually maturing in our capacity to meet people’s needs.

I share Love INC’s core values because I believe we all need core values. I also be-lieve we all have core values, they just may not be what God wants them to be. At this month’s session meeting I’ll be encouraging the elders to explore what are our, Community Presbyterian Church’s, core values. Many of Love INC’s fit who we are as well, yet ours will be specific to our being Community Presbyterian Church Forsyth, Missouri.

A question for each of us is; what are our core values and do we live them out?

The core values that stand out to me are; Christ centered, prayer, value transfor-mation and maturing in Christ.

In many ways, September marks the beginning of a new year. A new school year has started. Here at the church things turn to our fall activities and focusing upon God’s call for us as we begin winding down one year and looking forward to the new year. We’ll have lots of activities in the coming month(s) that will help us continue to move forward in Christ.

In the adult Sunday school class that I help lead, we have just begun a look at Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. In a very real sense this is Paul’s systematic theology. This would be one way that one might seek to grow in Christ in this new school year.

Here are a few things I want to highlight that are in this newsletter:

Eastern Taney County Day of Sharing, community Thanksgiving meal. This is an ex-citing opportunity for us and our community. Be praying about how you can be a part of this special community event. Then let us know how you will help.

The Presbyterian Women begin their new study on Wednesday, September 21 at 1 pm. I’ll be leading the first lesson and introducing the study for this year. Excellent opportunity for you to join this women’s group of our church.

Along with these we have our normal activities; worship, Sunday School classes for all ages, fellowship (Sept. 11 – Potluck), dinner with friends on the 18th. Consider being a part of all these wonderful opportunities to be with God’s people.

Refurbishing Update 8/30/2016

The Old Fellowship Hall and entrance way is finished! And my, what a difference everything

makes. Girl Scout leaders and moms told Phyllis, “The entrance is now so welcoming. It makes

you want to come into the room.” Thanks to all who put in many hours making this all possible.

The sanctuary, chancel area and hallways near the office all have new carpet with padding. It’s

really helped dress up this whole area.

The downstairs restroom near our main fellowship hall is now handicap accessible. Both old

doors were removed and a new doorway on the side was put in. Whole area painted and fresh-

ened up. This was made possible through the gift of $2,000 from the presbytery. Thanks!

A camera security system was installed outside the door of the main office entrance. We can

now see who is at the door and speak to them, without going to the door. It’s a great addition

and help to us in the office.

The elders will be visiting about what next. We still have a few projects that we want to get ac-

complished. Thanks for the gifts that make this all possible.

Food Pantry Sundays

The first Sunday of each month we will have a special offering for

Christian Action Ministries Food Pantry. Although food can be donated for this

effort, CAM can turn each $1 into $4 to purchase food for the pantry.

The total food pantry collection for August was $73

2016 Per Capita Rate Per capita is an amount of money per member that our congregation pays to our larger Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This annual amount is shared between our lo-cal presbytery, regional synod and Gen-eral Assembly. For 2016, our per capita rate is $31.00 per member. Any contribu-tions toward this amount would be appre-ciated. Please note your contribution as “Per Capita” to be sure it’s credited cor-rectly.

To date we have received $654 toward the per capita assessment.

Thank you!

“A Taste Of Heaven” Cookbook!

We still have plenty of cookbooks left, for yourself or a gift for a friend!

The book contains over 600 recipes submitted by members and friends of the church. Cost of the book is a very reasonable $12.50 each. They are available in the hallway next to the offices and in the sanctuary, in the literature rack as you come up the stairs.

Eastern Taney County Day of Sharing

First and foremost, a big THANK YOU! To all who responded to

the survey regarding needing help with the community Thanks-

giving dinner being planned by the Day of Sharing committee. As

our group gets further into the arrangements, another opportunity to sign up

will be provided for those of you who missed the first survey.

So far, seven area churches have committed to this project. Jeff Jordan, Pastor

at Forsyth Christian Church, has agreed to Chair the group. A contact person

from each of the churches rounds out the committee. The participating churches

are: Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, River, Taneyville New

Beginnings, and the Forsyth Christian. The committee is in the early planning

stages—-addressing questions of menu, volunteer workers, food preparation,

finances, etc. Our next meeting has been scheduled for September 15th. Stay

tuned for more information as we move closer to Thanksgiving Day and the big

event.

September is here. School is in session and many churches are celebrating the return of Sun-

day School and other activities that were put on hold during the summer. It is a time of great

activity in and around church life. Many times, the mission that occurred in the summer, is re-

ported sometime in September and people are amazed at the lives touched by their effort.

From VBS to mission trips, people who love Christ are reaching out to make a difference. As I

have listened to all the VBS stories, I am reminded of a story the Rev. Dr. Dave Burgess told

me when he first came to JCP. He said the church where he had come from didn’t do summer

VBS - they did VBS during spring break. That is thinking outside the box. What would happen if

a church did VBS over Christmas break or spring break? Or even some other time? Or what

about planning a major mission trip for recently retired people? Sometimes thinking outside

the box when we are seeking to build up the Kingdom of God helps us experience God’s love in

ways we would have never expected. I look forward to hearing about all your experiences of

Kingdom building and service this past summer and those you will have in the future. In the

mean time, keep up the good work.

Relates Annabel's fall from a tree, resulting in unconsciousness, with her digestive issues subsequently and mysteriously cured. Annabel claims to have visited Heaven while knocked out. Basis for 2016 movie.

Lights Out: a Cyberattack, A Nation Unprepared, Surviving the Aftermath by Ted Koppel.

Social Sciences/Computers/ Government and Politics.

Journalist examines the potential repercussions if the national power grid were sub-jected to a cyberattack. Discusses the findings of a government study which posits on-ly one in ten Americans would survive such an attack, and proposes ways to prepare for such a scenario.

Please join us and bring a friend.
