Bias - noun

• Definition: An opinion about whether a person, group or ideas is good or bad influencing how you deal with it

• Sentence: Student test scores should be examined without bias.

• Synonym: favoritism, one-sided, viewpoint

• Antonym: fairness

Business Cycle - noun

• Definition: The period during which business activity reaches a low point, recovers, expands, reaches a high point, and decreases to a new low point

• Sentence: The U.S. economy is at a low point in the business cycle.

• Synonym: fluctuation

Compound Word - noun

• Definition: When two words are joined to form a new word.

• Sentence: Walking barefoot in the sand leaves footprints.

• Examples: basketball, earthquake, passport, schoolhouse, backbone, seashore, toothpaste

Diagram - noun

• Definition: A simple drawing or plan that shows exactly where something is, what it looks like or how it works

• Sentence: An electrician diagrams where the outlets will be placed in the new house.

• Synonym: picture, sketch, blueprint, outline

• Antonym: unplanned, sporadic, scattered

Mixed Metaphor - noun

• Definition: Two or more metaphors in the same expression that are illogical when combined

• Sentence: It’s our turn at bat, so let’s make this touchdown for the company.

• No synonyms or antonyms

Poverty - noun

• Definition: The condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support

• Sentence: Millions of people live their lives in poverty.

• Synonym: poor, debt, famine, shortage

• Antonym: luxury, wealth

Range - noun

• Definition: A number of people or things that are all different, but are related in some general way

• Sentence: Our clinic offers a wide range of services.

• Synonyms: dimension,• limits, parameters• Antonyms: extreme

Rhythm - noun

• Definition: A regular repeated pattern of sounds or movements

• Sentence: Your heartbeat has a distinct rhythm.

• Synonym: beat, metre, tempo

• Antonym: disorder
