3. candidate evaluation and acceptanceApplications are assessed by the Admissions Committee before a final acceptance decision is made. Decisions will be conveyed to applicants within ten working days of receipt of a fully completed file, including test results and interview comments. Accepted students will receive the following documents in their acceptance package, electronically and/or by courier/postal services:

1. Acceptance Letter 2. Acceptance Agreement 3. Tuition Invoice4. Visa Information (if necessary) 5. Enrollment Forms (to be returned to LAS) 6. LAS Student Handbook

4. enrollmentIn order to guarantee a student’s place at LAS the payment of a security deposit is required to be paid within 10 business days following the acceptance date. The enrollment process is complete when the Admissions Office receives all required paperwork stated above.

visa proceduresLAS will obtain residence permits for non-Swiss residents. However we are not able to apply for a visa on a student’s behalf, as it must be done by the parents/legal guardians. In accordance with Swiss law, it is necessary for most students holding passports outside of the European Union, Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand to obtain a Student Entry Visa to commence studies in Switzerland. Please note that a tourist visa is not acceptable. The visa application process takes time, and students who require a visa should apply immediately at the nearest Swiss Embassy/Consulate upon receiving their acceptance letter from LAS. For students with Swiss passports not resident in Switzerland, a copy of the act of origin is needed in order to register students at the local immigration office.

School Health PlanThe legally required LAS Accident and Health Insurances are included in the tuition fees and cover students during the school year (excluding summer holidays). Accident and Health Insurances cover 100% of hospitalization and ambulatory treatment expenses. Dental care is excluded. For all students there is an annual calendar year CHF 200 deductible charged to the Personal Account.

School TextbooksOfficial school textbooks are loaned to the student for the school year. Books not returned at the end of the year or returned in an unsatisfactory condition are charged at approximately 1/3 of the purchase price.

Pocket MoneyWeekly pocket money is distributed to the students by the school. Based on the recommended amounts, parents should remit sufficient funds to LAS before the student’s arrival. LAS recommends the following amounts per week: 8th / 9th Grade - CHF 60 10th / 11th Grade - CHF 75 12th / 13th Grade & PG - CHF 100

Note: CHF 150 is the maximum weekly allowance permitted for any student. Parents are urged to check the status of the account at any time via the web-based student information system and are responsible for replenishing the account if and when funds run low. No pocket money will be distributed unless the amount is covered. Any balance will be reimbursed three months after the student leaves the school.

Bank Account and Credit Card PolicyLAS students may not have private bank accounts. Parents may grant their child permission to have a credit card for travel purposes only. Such credit cards must be deposited in the school safe while school is in session and will be issued to students for their travels.

Technology/Communication ChargesLAS has an integrated school laptop and phone program. The phone includes a mandatory school issued SIM card. Cost for any items not returned or returned in an unsatisfactory condition will be deducted from the security deposit as follows: laptops (maximum CHF 2’000), SIM cards (CHF 60), iPhones (CHF 700).

Re-enrollmentParents wishing to withdraw a student for the following academic year must inform the Admissions Office in writing before April 15. If cancellation occurs after this date, the security deposit will not be reimbursed except in extenuating circumstances. Students who are not invited back at the end of the school year will be reimbursed the Personal Account balance and deposit, minus any charges incurred.

WithdrawalsIf a student leaves LAS before the end of the school year, a refund of CHF 600 will be made for each full month of school missed. LAS reserves the right, without assigning a public reason, to require the withdrawal of a student whose presence on campus is deemed harmful to him / herself, to his / her fellow students, or to the school. In such cases, the refund policy described above is applicable. No refunds will be made for late arrivals, unscheduled early departures, or non-participation in school trips. Please note that for students who do not complete the entire academic year, finalizing the statement of personal account expenditures may take up to three months after date of departure.

A full and candid report from the teacher is essential if the student is to be given fair consideration. We, therefore, ask for careful ratings of, and comments about, his/her character and ability by a school official who knows the student well. a tradition of giving Good ideas and their implementation cost money. In 2005 the Ott Family decided to pass ownership of the school to the LAS Foundation for the Advancement of International Education, a non-profit philanthropic organization overseen by the Swiss federal government. This generous decision allowed the school to develop a non-profit LAS Educational Fund for the Future (a U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation). The Foundation receives donations from LAS alumni, alumni parents, current parents and friends to support the development plans and the innovative thinking that have always been a tradition at LAS. Your participation in this culture of giving to ongoing developments, new programs or the scholarship fund will be very much appreciated.

scholarships The Foundation Board members believe that scholarship students are future world leaders who will make a significant difference and positively impact the world through their actions.

Every year LAS’s Foundation selects a few talented and deserving students to receive full or partial scholarships. Full scholarship students are required to maintain a 3.5 grade point average and passionately engage in extra curricular activities. Their performance is evaluated periodically and they are required to re-apply each academic year.

In line with the LAS mission statement, each year the LAS Foundation Board awards a Humanitarian Scholarship to a deserving student. The recipient of this award is proposed and selected jointly with international NGOs, Swiss or US Embassies. These young adults have shown outstanding behavior as compassionate, global citizens, rising above the difficult and tragic circumstances in which they find themselves. Past recipients have come from regions of the world struck by natural disasters or war. http://www.las.ch/admissions/aid/
