Pastor Trish’s Notes (July 2019 Larned & Garfield UMC Newsletter Article)

I am excited to work alongside you for Christ!

I thank Rev. Bethann and all of you for your hard work and your hearts for others.

I am a farm kid who has lived most of my life in small towns. I grew up driving a trac-

tor, fixing fence, pulling calves, and seeing God’s beautiful creation all around me. My fami-

ly still prefers handshakes over contracts, and smiles and laughter over complaints and nega-

tivity. The biggest towns I’ve lived in are Hays for my undergraduate degree and secondary

teaching licenses, Emporia for graduate school, and one summer in Fort Worth, Texas. There

I worked at St. Theresa’s Home for Children while I helped a cousin and her husband when

they were expecting their first child. I enjoy living in small towns because we can be neigh-

bors, care for each other, celebrate each other’s joys, and comfort each other in our heart-

aches. As members of God’s team, we can encourage and uplift each other at all times, espe-

cially in life’s rough moments. I picture Jesus in Luke 24 walking along his disciples “on the

road to Emmaus”; our risen Savior was in the midst of his followers as he walked and talked

through the scriptures. Our risen Savior comes beside us too.

A victim of a drunk driver, I see each day as a gift, and each sunrise and sunset as ex-

amples of God’s glory and majesty. I believe God calls us into ministries no matter our ages

or job titles. Each day He gives us the opportunity to brighten another person’s life.

My background is in the teaching ministry. I student-taught and coached at Otis Bison

High School. I taught Social Studies and English, and coached at Wallace County High

School in Sharon Springs. Among other responsibilities there and in my pastoral ministry at

the Ellis and Palco United Methodist Churches, I led or co-led mission trips. I’m a people-

person who comes alive as I become active in a community. To me ministry is partnerships

accomplished through teamwork. God has given each of us talents to grow in our faith, and

to bless others in our congregation, community, and beyond.

I look forward to getting to know you. I hope to meet you before or after worship ser-

vices, as we work beside each other, and/or during a Coffee and Conversation hour around a

table (9:30 AM on Mondays at the Larned UMC and 10:00 AM on Tuesdays at the Garfield

UMC.)

Again, I am excited to serve Christ with you! Pastor Tricia “Trish” North

If you ask people what they can “afford to give” to the Lord’s work or a special pro-

ject, they will usually come up with a small amount that they feel they can handle. But if you ask people to determine what God is prompting their heart to give, there is no telling what God will lead them and pro-

vide for them to do.

The Larned United Methodist Church finance committee is honored to provide scholarships to the seniors going to college and that have been involved in the church. This year we awarded three schol-arships to Justin Baker, Brooke Butler, and Alea Makings. There is an application process and rules are available in the church office. Be sure to check it out if you have a student in high school. There are a lot of ways to be involved: attending church, helping with Children’s Church, Wacky Wednesday, nursery, Summer food program, lighting of the candles, being an usher and many more. We really appreciate ALL of the volunteers in the church. We wouldn’t be able to spread the word of God without your help. It is awesome to see a child grow in their faith and service to our God! Wow Brenda told me to get ready for another Evangel News Letter, how fast time goes. July already. This mean fire works and all that happy noise, so please exercise caution with these noise makers, they are SO dangerous. I really like watching them, but I cer-tainly DO not touch them.. After the cautioning of the shooting of them let us remember what this day is all about. Our Independence Day. WOW!! Thank you Veterans for fighting for our freedom and putting your life on the line for all of us..God blesses you all I am sure. I will put out an extra pray for you all and thank you for the prices paid for what we have. Freedom is definitely not free. SO thank you once again for your sacri-fice. Harvest should be starting soon and we need to pay heed to the farmers while they are bringing in their crops. I hope that they are good for you all this year. If you have an extra bottle of cold water, share it with the workers, this is a very hot job. Thank you for putting food on our table. I don’t think anything is happening yet, any events, if there is we will get it in the bulletin. God bless Bethann as she is on her way to her new church and Tricia as she is coming here. Thank you for all the people that do work behind the scenes that we don’t know about. Thank you for the ladies doing the summer meals. God bless you all until Brenda tells me it is time again.. Happy 4th. Love to you all Elaine.

Garfield UMC is scheduled to work the Food Pantry Tuesday, July 30th and

Thursday, August 1
