Es un viernes con 40 grados en la ciudad de Asunción. Víctor, un carretillero de 17 años, sueña con ser famoso absorto en la tele de un puesto de electrodomésticos en pleno Mercado 4. El mundo del Mercado es hostil, competitivo y hay miles como él esperando llevar cosas. Víctor entiende que necesita moverse para conseguir algo de plata ese día. Recibe entonces una propuesta algo inusual, transportar 7 cajas de las cuales desconoce su contenido, a cambio de la mitad rasgada de un billete de 100 dólares. La otra mitad se le entregará cuando termine el trabajo. Víctor, que jamás vio un billete de ese valor, no tiene idea de cuantos guaraníes significa. Pero sabe muy bien, que no tiene derecho a preguntar. Es más grande su necesidad que su curiosidad. Cruzar las 8 manzanas que cubre el Mercado parecía fácil, pero las cosas se complican en el trayecto: le roban una caja, pierde el celular con el que se comunicaba con su contratista y la policía rodea el lugar buscando algo que él ignora por completo. A esto se le suma un grupo de carretilleros que están dispuestos a escoltar también las cajas. Algo hay en ellas que genera una verdadera persecución de carretillas en los pasillos más recónditos y lúgubres del Mercado. Sin saberlo, Víctor y sus perseguidores se irán involucrando en un crimen del que desconocen todo: la causa, la víctima y el victimario. Todos son cómplices, porque la necesidad los obliga a correr, a gritar, a callar, o simplemente a hacerse el ñembotavy (palabra en guaraní que significa hacerse el tonto).

2013 - 7 CAJAS (ópera prima)

It's Friday, 40 degrees in Asunción. Víctor a 17 year old wheel barrow leader, dreams of becoming famous, absorbed on the TV of an appliance store in the Municipal Market Number 4 (a famous city market place in Asunción). Then, he loses a customer, another carter got ahead. The market's world is hostile, competitive and there are thousands like him waiting to carry things. Víctor knows that he needs to move to get some money that day. Then he receives an unusual proposal, to carry 7 boxes of unknown content, in exchange for a torn half of a $ 100 bill. The other half will be given to him when he finishes the job. Víctor, who has never seen a bill of this value, has no idea how many Guaraníes (Paraguayan money) means. But he also knows well that he doesn't have the right to ask. His need is greater than his curiosity. With a borrowed cell phone, which the contractor uses to tell him the way to go, Víctor embarks on the journey. Crossing the eight blocks that constitute the market seemed easy but things get complicated along the way: the box is stolen from him, he loses the cell phone and the police surround the place looking for something he completely ignores. To all this, is added a group of carters who are also willing to escort the boxes for a pittance of the profits. There is something in those boxes that generate a real wheel barrow chase in the secret and gloomy corridors of the market. Without even realizing, Víctor and his pursuers will get involved in a crime of which they don't know anything: neither the cause nor the victim nor the victimizer. All of them are accomplices, because necessity forces them to run, to scream, to remain silent, or simply to pretend to be ñembotavy (Guaraní word meaning dumb).

“El cigarrillo nos permite comunicarnos con el fuego sin ser consumidos por él”, se anuncia en letras blancas en la pantalla antes de la aparición de los protagonistas de 18 cigarrillos y medio. Eso es lo que fuma Ezequiel a lo largo de todo el film, que recoge tan sólo un pequeño fragmento de una vida repleta de búsquedas e incertidumbres. Así es como podremos seguir a este joven y a sus amigos por diferentes lugares y contextos, exclusivamente en los momentos que transcurren entre que Ezequiel prende un cigarrillo y lo termina. Así es como todos los acontecimientos atravesados, como la visita a un prostíbulo y la golpiza que le propicia el nuevo novio de su ex, serán reconstruidos luego verbalmente, cenicero de por medio. De esta manera peculiar se entreteje la historia entre Ezequiel y Vivian (la muchacha que tiene nuevo novio), un romance pasado que él no parece dar por cerrado. Ellos se habían hecho un promesa: en vez de, si algún día se peleaban ambos tendrían derecho a pedir un último beso, y exactamente eso es lo que le busca Ezequiel.

Ezequiel is almost 22, and neither him nor his friends are going through a good time. Ezequiel feels there is no way to solve their problems, but tries to hold on to the desire of discovering what he really wants. El 26 de agosto de 1983 el persistente sirimiri, protagonista del mes de agosto en Euskadi, se transformó en una gran tromba de agua, provocando el desbordamiento de los ríos que arrasaron todo lo que encontraron a su paso: casas, tiendas, coches, fábricas… y lamentablemente vidas humanas. El fenómeno de la gota fría dejó un saldo de 101 municipios vascos arrasados y decenas de muertos. Entre todos los pueblos, el más afectado fue el centro histórico de Bilbao. Desde primeras horas, centenares de hombres y mujeres se ofrecieron voluntarios en las labores de desescombro y limpieza del desastre, marcando el inicio del resurgir de la ciudad hasta convertirse en el Bilbao que hoy conocemos. Por primera vez en 30 años, recreamos estos sucesos tal y como fueron vividos por algunos de sus protagonistas.

On 26 August 1983, the persistent drizzle, main character of August in the Basque Country, became a big storm, causing the overflow of rivers that swept away everything in their path: houses, shops, cars, factories and, unfortunately, lives. The phenomenon of cold drop left a balance of 101 Basque towns destroyed and dozens of deaths. Among all, the most affected was the historical center of Bilbao. Since early hours, hundreds of men and women volunteered in the work of clearing and cleaning the disaster, marking the beginning of the resurgence of the city to become the Bilbao we know today. Nerea es una chica que vive con su madre en una ciudad donde todavía no ha hecho muchos amigos. Con el fin de que Nerea conozca gente de su edad y salga de sus cuatro paredes, su madre la convence para que se vaya con un grupo de jóvenes vecinos a pasar un fin de semana a la Sierra. Esto no le gusta nada a algunos miembros del grupo y Nerea no lo tendrá nada fácil para hacer amistades. Cuando se acercan a la casa rural que han alquilado, empiezan a descubrir cosas extrañas. ¿Tendrá algo que ver con un viejo Altar que encuentran en una cueva cercana? Pronto se dan cuenta de que se han metido en una aventura de la cual no será fácil sobrevivir.

Un grupo de personajes variopintos viven una situación de riesgo dentro de un avión que se dirige a México D.F. La indefensión ante el peligro provoca una catarsis generalizada que acaba convirtiéndose en el mejor modo de escapar a la idea de la muerte. Esta catarsis, desarrollada en tono de comedia desaforada y moral, llena el tiempo de confesiones imprevisibles que les ayudan a olvidar la angustia del momento y a enfrentarse al mayor de los peligros, el que cada uno lleva dentro de sí mismo.

A very mixed group of travellers are in a life-threatening situation on board a plane flying to Mexico City. Their defencelessness in the face of danger provokes a general catharsis that ends up becoming the best way to escape from the idea of death. This catharsis, developed in the tone of a riotous, moral comedy, fills the time with unforeseeable confessions that help them forget the anguish of the moment and face the greatest of dangers, that which they each carry within themselves.

Un juez atrapado por las deudas y con ansiedad por satisfacer los caprichos de su mujer se somete a las órdenes de un banco. Sin escrúpulos, participa como showman televisivo o como agente comercial del propio banco en una operación especulativa. Al juez le llega el caso de una agresión racista que ha tenido un gran eco mediático. El banco ve un gran potencial de audiencia y decide patrocinar el juicio y su retransmisión televisiva en directo. La vista, finalmente, llega a ser un gran festival mediático, y el desarrollo del caso se aleja totalmente de las normas habituales de los sistemas jurídicos occidentales.

A judge trapped by debt and the anxiety of having to satisfy his wife's whims must give in to the orders of a bank. Abandoning his scruples, he agrees to participate in a speculative transaction as a TV showman and as a commercial agent of the bank itself. The judge receives the case of a racist attack that has had massive media coverage. The bank sees the great audience potential of this case and decides to sponsor the trial, along with its live television broadcast. The hearing becomes a huge media event and as the case develops, it strays completely from the customary rules of the Western legal systems.

Anochece en la India cuenta la particular aventura de Ricardo y Dana. Ricardo decide viajar a la India por tierra, como hacía en los viejos tiempos, cuando llevaba hippies a Oriente con su furgón cruzando Europa, Turquía, Irán y Pakistán. Pero la situación ahora es muy distinta, pues ha pasado los últimos diez años de su vida en una silla de ruedas, aquejado de una enfermedad que ha alcanzado su fase final. Al viaje le acompaña Dana, su asistenta rumana. Se trata de dos seres solitarios con los que la vida tiene una deuda. El viaje se convertirá en la coartada para saldarla. Anochece en la India es una road movie luminosa y vital que usa el viaje como excusa para contar una historia sobre el amor y el paso del tiempo, sobre el valor del presente y la necesidad de recuperar el tiempo perdido; una historia en la que, tan importante como llegar, es el propio viaje.

Nightfall in India tells the story of Ricardo and Dana. La propia voz de Antonio Vega desvela, por fin, aspectos desconocidos de su persona que nunca antes habíamos escuchado. A lo largo de cuatro años y ante la presencia del escritor Bosco Ussía y su grabadora, el músico fue desgranando impresiones, momentos de su biografía, nostálgicos recuerdos y expresos deseos que podrán escucharse, por primera vez, tal como surgieron. La voz de Antonio viajará además entre los testimonios de su entorno más querido y cercano: su madre y sus hermanos, su ex mujer. Su otra familia, como a él le gustaba llamarles: su banda y un reducidísimo grupo de amigos; la madre de su adorada Marga, los antiguos miembros de Nacha Pop y otros nombres por él queridísimos, nos ayudarán a mostrar mucho más que la típica imagen atormentada en la que tanto insistían los Medios, y sobre la que él ironizaba, en privado, con un sentido del humor que a muchos resultará insólito. Una obra coral salpicada de fotos y filmaciones inéditas en Super8, entrevistas que no han visto la luz, documentos gráficos, manuscritos y dibujos que verán la luz en este documental. Pero, además, regresaremos a algunos de los lugares que marcaron su vida e inspiraron gran parte de sus canciones. Antonio Vega's own voice will, finally, reveal unknown aspects of him that we have never heard about before. Over a period of four years in the presence of the writer Bosco Ussía and his recorder, the musician recounted impressions, moments from his biography, nostalgic memories and express wishes that can be heard, for the first time, exactly as they happened. Antonio's voice will also journey through testimonies from his circle of nearest and dearest: his mother and brothers and sisters, his ex-wife. His other family, as he liked to call them: his band and a small group of friends; the mother of his beloved Marga, the old members of Nacha Pop and other people that were dear to him, will help to show us much more than the typical tortured picture that the media insisted on so frequently, and about which he used to make ironic jokes, in private, with a sense of humour that many will find unusual. A musical work smattered with photos and unreleased Super8 film recordings, interviews that have never been seen, graphic documents, manuscripts and drawings which will be seen for the first time in this documentary. But we will also return to the places that marked his life and inspired a large number of his songs. Metaphorical sequences, in video clips, that are loyal to his dreamer spirit and allow us to enjoy his songs, yet again.

Tres niños deambulan por las calles de Addis Abeba. Tratan de sobrevivir utilizando la imaginación, cometiendo robos menores y protegiéndose unos a otros. La película sigue a Daniel, Yohannes y Habtom durante tres años. El azar, la nostalgia y la necesidad, sin embargo, los embarcan en un viaje hacia el norte de Etiopía: Un viaje catárquico con el fin de reunirse con sus familias tras largos años de ausencia. Los niños tendrán entonces que hacer frente a los miedos de ese pasado desdibujado, coincidiendo con el paso de la inocencia a la madurez.

Three streetkids wander the streets of Addis Abeba. They try to survive by using their inventiveness, committing minor thefts and supporting each other solidly united. Homesickness, chance and necessity however make them venture a journey towards the north of Ethiopia. A journey during which they will experience unusual adventures before being reunited with their families whom they decided to leave when they were still little. The kids will then have to deal with the fears and memories that have arisen during the trip under the new circumstances, with the past being vividly present.

Florencio es un rico empresario que, tras grandes reflexiones al conocer que padece un grave tumor cerebral, decide cambiar el rumbo de su vida. Como mayor accionista de una financiera, condona nueve hipotecas sin contar con el consejo de administración. Con sus otras dos empresas, forma una gran cooperativa, convirtiendo a todos los trabajadores en accionistas copropietarios con los mismos derechos y las mismas acciones que él mismo. Alberga en su mansión a desdichados indigentes a los que va integrando en la gran cooperativa. Su esposa y su hijastro dicen que se ha vuelto loco e intentan que se le declare una incapacidad.

Florencio is a rich businessman who, after turning over the fact that he suffers from a serious brain tumour, decides to change the way his life is going. As the majority shareholder in a financing firm, he condones new mortgages without consulting the administration board. With his other two companies, he sets up a large cooperative, making all the workers co-owner shareholders, having the same rights and the same shares as himself. In his mansion, he gives shelter to some unfortunate homeless, who he gradually takes into the large cooperative. His wife and stepson say that he has gone mad and set out to have him declared incompetent.

El municipio ourensano de Avión, un conjunto de aldeas diseminadas entre montañas marcado en el pasado por la miseria y el éxodo masivo, es hoy emblema del triunfo económico de la emigración gallega a América. La mayoría de los jóvenes de Avión tuvieron que abandonar un día su tierra en busca de un futuro mejor. Muchos lo encontraron en México y hoy regresan con el objetivo cumplido con creces. Pero tras esa apariencia de éxito, tras los coches de lujo y las mansiones levantadas sobre las ruinas del pasado, se esconde el dolor. Un dolor de despedidas constantes, familias rotas y un profundo sentimiento de morriña que parece no tener fin.

Avion (it means airplane in Spanish) is a set of villages scattered among the mountains in the past marked by poverty and mass exodus. Now Avion is also synonymous of economic triumph of Galician emigration to America. Most young people had to leave one day their land in search of a better future. Many of them found it in Mexico and now return with the mission accomplished. But behind that appearance of success, after the luxury cars and mansions erected on the ruins of the past, hides the pain. A constant pain of goodbyes, broken families and a deep sense of nostalgia that seem sendless.
