Staffs in hotels and restaurants speak both languages, French and English. All signs in the city are in French. In shops, the salesmen –and women speak French, but they often speak English due to the neighbourhood with England. Breton is also spoken.
Currency Exchange
The legal currency in France is the Euro (€) which is divided into 100 centimes. In France, you may convert your home country currency into Euros at most banks and foreign exchange outlets (Bureaux de Change). You may also use your bank debit card to make withdrawals at the majority of automatic teller machines (ATMs) located in banks and public places in Saint-Malo. For information on the current value of the Euro compared with your home country currency, try the currency converter (http://www.xe.com/ucc/)
1€ = 1.21 USD (US dollar) 1€ = 1.57 CAD (Canadian dollar) 1€ = 132.79 JPY (Yen) 1€ = 0.68 GBP (UK Pound)
Traveller's Cheques and Credit Cards
Travellers' cheques are accepted in most department stores and hotels. Credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express are honoured almost everywhere.

Generally speaking, offices are open from 09:00 to 19:00. Most stores are open weekdays from 10:00 until 21:00, including Saturday. Some stores are also open on Sundays but with more limited opening hours.
Taxes - Tipping
Taxes and service charges for taxis, restaurants and nightclubs are always included in the bill. Tipping is not mandatory in France and is left to the estimation of each one.
