In this course, you play the role of English language materials developer and learn about

• Materials development as a subfield of applied linguistics• Adapting existing materials for particular student needs• Creating original materials for a particular group of learners• Designing materials to foster communication and engage students• Incorporating 21st century technology in materials design• Working with your peers as a team of professionals

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A seminar in materials development for language teaching. We will investigate the various conditions under which teachers will need to develop materials, the basic principles which different methodologies suggest for the ordering and types of activities,and the process of evaluating, adapting and piloting materials. As this is a seminar, some class time is devoted to student presentations of readings and workshops in materials development.
