Language Learner P rofile Project reflection:

Language Learner profile was the assessment of Unit Three, where teaching

materials were designed in order to analyze a specific English language student in areas

such as  linguistic needs, problems, and possible future development. Being a student-

centered assessment, in pairs we analyze students’ needs, learning styles in such a way that

teacher conducts a useful methodology for the student. As a result, we had to make a

planning (lesson plan) integrating the data collected and carry them out in a class. For this

task, a student of eighth grade from the Adventist school was selected to be interviewed.

Analyzing his exposure to the English language, I realized that Diego, the interviewee,

mostly had problems of pronunciation and grammar. As a result, it was necessary to create

a plan that would focus on these two aspects.

Moreover, the evaluation required an interview which consisted of two parts:

·         Questions in Spanish about your learner´s English-language-learning

background.

·         Questions in English to elicit sufficient language to characterize the learner´s

linguistic production.

Despite the fact that the study of this case took time, this was very useful because through

the analysis of phonetic transcriptions, I was able to identify phonetics and grammatical

mistakes, general errors and the frequency of them. On the other hand, this course is

directly related to the course pedagogical practice, where different formats of planning are

taught to apply based on skills, objectives, learning outcomes, assessments etc.

I think the purpose of the study was to gain a greater ability to help students who have

specific problems by communicating in English. As a future English teacher, this will help

me to comprehend what are the needs of the students; since the lesson plan will be oriented

toward contextualize particular needs. Thus, I will understand and will attend the problems

of the students in the future.
