TWO - On Sunday 19th October we have been invited to perform in the stunning foyer of the Maritime Heritage Centre at Wharf 7 Darling Harbour to celebrate the 140th birthday of the tall ship James Craig. We have also been invited to sleepover the night before (Sat 18th Oct) on James Craig while moored at the wharf (we won’t be sailing).

We’ll sleep in hammocks on the ‘tween-decks’ where we will also have a rehearsal and watch a movie! More details later, but please see our Facebook page and YouTube video to see how much fun we had on our last nautical sleepover in May 2012 . Just listen to the acoustics in that fabulous space!!

Brief summary of Term Two 2014 ........What a busy term!

10-11th May – Sleepover and Workshop. As usual we have a number of objectives for our workshops - to provide intensive musical tuition in preparation for the upcoming Sydney Eisteddfod, to provide an opportunity to broaden our players’ experiences of Australian history and culture and of course to have an amazingly good time!

This year we chose another spectacular venue – Sydney Harbour YHA (Youth Hostel) in Cumberland St in the historical ‘Rocks’ area of central Sydney. This modern structure is remarkable as it is built on stilts above archaeological remnants of Sydney’s colonial past. Players plus a number of parents and families enjoyed great food and very comfortable accommodation in this amazing venue.

We held rehearsals in the Education Centre of the YHA and at the KGV Recreation Centre across the road.

On the Saturday night after dinner we embarked on a short but exciting walk to the Sydney Observatory where we enjoyed a wonderful tour and an opportunity to use both the historic 1874 refracting lens telescope, the oldest working telescope in Australia and the computer-controlled reflecting telescope. See photos taken by Heather Golby! And for more Photos see Facebook!

We thank the Rotary Club of Lane Cove plus Waterbrook Greenwich for their funding assistance.

26th May 2014 – Orchestral Showcase Concert – We held our concert in LCPS hall. Our rousing finale also featured guest group, LCPS orchestra with conductor Colin Tripolone. Our very own LCYO String Quartet also featured on the programme. Our thanks to all performers, directors and helpers for creating this lovely event. See photos below taken by Giselle Stidston. (Soon there will be more on Facebook!)

Sunday 15th June - Sydney Eisteddfod - the Robert & Elizabeth Albert Youth Orchestra Award. This year the event was again held in the spectacular Chatswood Concourse. Players excelled themselves and were given a most complimentary report, but alas we did not gain a place. Well done everyone.

Monday 16th June - AGM. Sincere thanks to all in attendance at our Annual General Meeting and special thanks to all the wonderful mums and dads who agreed to be elected to, or stay on-board this active committee.

At this meeting it was decided to increase fees to $85 per term. This increased rate is still most affordable especially considering the fact that a substantial supper is included in the cost. Remember -if you have any concerns over fee payment please see Lyndall as we have sponsors who are happy to assist.

Looking forward to seeing you all next Monday, 14th July at 5.30pm for 5.45 start at LCPS.

Regards, Lyndall
