WINTER

This is the most avoided season for landscape renovations, when it should actually be the most embraced.

Landscapers have fewer projects during these months, meaning they have plenty of time to focus on your individual landscape redesign.

Anything that’s physically hard, like patios or pergolas, are great projects to tackle in the wintertime.

Project management is critical to the success of winter landscaping, like planning when to put new plants into the ground.

You also benefit from not having to water plants during the winter, saving you on water costs and helping the environment through water conservation, while you’re at it.

Winter is the perfect time to work on hardscaping projects:

◆◆ Patios ◆◆ Boulders◆◆ Fire Pits◆◆ Outdoor Kitchens◆◆ Retaining Walls◆◆ Pergolas◆◆ Terraces◆◆ Verandas◆◆ Porticos◆◆ Porches◆◆ Decks◆◆ Gazebos◆◆ Privacy Screens◆◆ Belvederes◆◆ Arbors ◆◆ Trellises ◆◆ Garden Beds◆◆ Xeriscaping

SPRING

People consider spring to be the ideal time to begin a landscaping project. And while there’s truth that Spring is the typical season in which planting begins, it’s also when the weather turns and people want to enjoy their beautiful outdoor space.

Consider this: If you wait until spring to begin, it could be weeks or months before your yard is available to use.

There’s also pre-planning to consider before you can even break ground.

You will want to have raised flower beds or planters established in advance so you can lay your seeds early in the spring months.

If you wait until spring to start, you may not be able to take full advantage of your outdoor space until the following year!

Spring is the perfect time to install Colorado- native softscaping:

◆◆ Greens◆◆ Root Vegetables◆◆ Beans◆◆ Tomatoes◆◆ Peppers◆◆ Eggplants◆◆ Squash◆◆ Columbine◆◆ Liatris◆◆ Purple Coneflower

◆◆ Sedum◆◆ Russian Sage◆◆ Oxeye Daisy◆◆ Black-eyed Susan◆◆ Fireweed◆◆ Penstemon◆◆ Dianthus◆◆ Poppy Mallow

SUMMER

The summer is the busiest time for all landscaping companies, so, if at all possible, it’s ideal to avoid this time of year for landscaping renovations.

Water management is critical during the summer months, as it’s the hottest and driest time of year, making it a less eco-friendly option for implementing a landscape renovation, which would require more water consumption during these months to keep your new yard looking fresh.

If you do start a landscaping renovation during the summer months, though, take advantage of the hot sun and cool off your senses with a wonderful water feature. These can be set up to use recycled water, and can even run off of water collected from yard water residue.

Project management is also critical during this time of year, due to both the high demand for job production and water management. You need a landscaping contractor who knows the best sequence in which to plan your renovation in order to achieve peak thriving of your foliage.

Summer is a great time to install water features!

FALL

This is the most overlooked season for landscaping projects! Coming just before winter, this is when people are typically saying goodbye to their yards, not planning a new welcome.

TREES put down the majority of their new roots in the spring and fall, so it’s good to get them in during the fall season and get their new roots established.

BULB PLANTS need to be planted during the fall, as well — so tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths all need to go in now!

This is actually the best time of year to begin the mental preparation for your landscape renovation – the dreaming and scheming!

You can then begin the prep work with your selected landscaping contractor and have plenty of time to complete your renovation before spring comes around — when you want to enjoy it most!

Plant your trees and bulbs in the fall! Trees:◆◆ Japanese Lilac◆◆ Russian Hawthorn◆◆ American Hornbeam◆◆ Ketucky Coffee Tree◆◆ Burr Oak◆◆ Tatarian Maple◆◆ Texas Horse Chestnut◆◆ Eastern Redbud◆◆ Saskatoon Serviceberry◆◆ Spring Snow Crabapple

Bulbs:◆◆ Allium◆◆ Crocus◆◆ Daffodils◆◆ Dutch Iris◆◆ Grape Hyacinth◆◆ Hyacinth◆◆ Lilies◆◆ Tulips

Deciding which season works best for your personal landscaping renovation is an important part of the overall success of your renovation.

Answer these 4 questions to get started selecting the right season for your renovation.

Q: When do you most use your yard?_______________________________________________________________________________You want to schedule your renovation in your own personal off-season! If you love having your yard available for use during the spring, you want to make sure to schedule your renovation for the winter, so that you have plenty of time to complete any large projects.

Q: What type of renovation are you looking to install?_______________________________________________________________________________Look through the various elements listed under each season for ideas on what you would want to feature in your landscape renovation. If you fancy a patio or pergola, surrounded by privacy trees and tulips, you should consider fall for your landscaping renovation.

Q: How quickly do you want your renovation to be completed?_______________________________________________________________________________If you want to be able to have your renovation completed as quickly as possible, the late summer through early winter months are the least busy, and therefore best time to complete quick projects!

Q. How much time do you want to spend working with your landscaper on the design?_______________________________________________________________________________If you already have a design in mind, and simply need some help bringing it to life, then spring and summer months are suitable times to do a renovation. If you want to spend time going back and forth on design options, the off-season will work better, as there is more time to devote to long term design development.
