COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Shifting from last year’s programs on Antarctica, Imagining Geographies will focus for the foreseeable future on Southern Illinois, with the 2013 series, titled: Land, Lives, and Arts of Southern Illinois.

In doing so, we seek to advance investigations and discussions of past histories and present issues, to engage our imaginations in thinking about and expressing what our future lives might be like in this region, as well as to advance initiatives that transform imagining into action.

To this end, many 2013 events are planned as initial efforts in what we hope will evolve into ongoing collaborative efforts involving scholars, artists, students, members of community agencies and organizations, and other residents of Southern Illinois; and, inspire new partners to join us in advancing these efforts.

We hope these events and initiatives will attract and engage participants, on- and off-campus, to learn about, experience, reflect on, and re-connect with living in Southern Illinois; as well as enable us to imagine and become engaged in transforming our lives here, individually and collectively.

OUR MISSIONImagining Geographies is a multi-year, university and region-wide initiative dedicated to advancing investigations, knowledge creation and mobilization, discussion and multiple forms of expression related to space, place, culture, identity, and related themes.
