NAME OF THE PROJECT : WRITING SIMPLE SENTENCES USING ”SVOPT

METHOD”

IMPLEMENTATION DATE : 09.08.2015 TO 03.09.2015

1. RATIONALE

The porject was carried out in the school which is situated in a rural area. It is far from the

well known town Sungai Petani. The pupils come from housing area and from the estate

nearby. The enrolemen of the pupils from the school is 150. The project was carried out for

Year Five pupils. There are 22 of them in the class. The pupils from primary school need to

have a good sentences construction skill using correct structure. Therefore, their language

will be more stronger. I had given a task to create an innovative method for the pupils to be

get more marks in English Language.

I decided to plan an innovative method to lessen the pupils errors in constructing sentences.

From the obervation, as a English Language teacher I designed a method named ”SVOPT

Method” for the project. There are some literature review done before implementing the

method on the pupils. The poject of a month, focused on the structure of correct sentences.

Based on the literature review, previousely the format of construting sentences have been

taught through substitution table. The innovated project I carried out is something different

from the previous one.

I designed the method to enable the pupils could memorise the structure easily and

concretely. After the implementation of the preject, the most of the pupils from Year Five

could construct simple sentences with correct structure.

This innovative method helped me to improvise my pupils writing word skills. The method will

be a clear map for them to reach their destination easily. The method innovated after many

literature review done from other sources. My lecturers were also involved by giving

comments to improvise my innovated method.

2. OBJECTIVES

By the end of the project, the selected target group should be able to;i. Understand the ’Jumble Up’ method clearly.

ii. Understand the ’Jumble Up’ method and use it correctly.

iii. Write simple words with correct spelling order.

3. IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

i. The teacher decided the focused skill for the project.

ii. Observe and indentfy the problems face by the pupils in the focused skills.

iii. Come out with the ”Jumble Up’ method.

iv. Planned the scheme of work for the month of the project.

v. Designed the teaching and learning strategies .

vi. Implement the method.

4. REFLECTION

The internship program of one month led me to identify the strenghts and weaknesses of

the project carried out. The innovation project carried out throughout the month had

strenghts and weaknesses. There are more strenghts and less weaknesses found in the

implementation.

4.1 STRENGHTS

To complete the project, I had received all the supports directly and indirectly from my

administration of the school and of course from my working collegues. As I am teaching in

the school for year one, it was easy for me to handle my pupils in the school.

I knew the ability of them in reading and writing in English Language. It helped me to plan

my teaching and learning strategies.

The progress shown by the pupils, will help me to acheive my target at the end of the year. I

could get closer to them and reduced their problems in writing word skills. The pupils are

more confident in constructing words. Before the project, they were really confused and was

very slow in jumbling the order of the words.

The innovated ”Jumble Up’ method helped my pupils to reduce the errors in identifying and

writing the correct word. This method will help the pupils to answer the questions for

examination also and get to know more vocabularies and to write them correctly according to

the picture given.

After the innovated method implemented, all the pupils from Year One could get to know the

way to jumble letters to create the correct word. Teacher made sure that the slow learners

could also understand the method. Even though, they could not do it independently, but they

still could try it because it was fun and enjoyable for them.

The internship project helped my pupils and my self in the process of leaning English

Language, espeacially the writing skills, whic is the most important skill in language learning.

4.2 WEAKNESSESThere were also some weaknesses found in my innovation project during the internship

program. By identifiying the weaknesses will lead me to improve my teaching and learning

approaches towards my pupils.

During the first lesson, I found that the pupils did not show the interest to the lesson. I had

some difficulties to get the attention of them. That was the reason, I plan to include

attractive activities in the following lesson. And I came through the problem in the second

lesson.

There were some pupils who have interest in performing and they do not like to write. From

my observation, the problem occurs because they felt that identifying and writing word is

difficult. By introducing the ”Jumble Up Method” things became easy for me. The pupils

showed their interest because they were more confident with their words writing.

CONCLUSION

Overall I have learnt far more through my internship. I had the oppotunity to upgrade my

profesionalism towards getting the degree. I appreaciated my lecturers who guided me

through the project. I am also proud of my mentor who was being the part of my project. The

internship program grown towards my futher studies.

I would like to accept this internship project as a guide to be confident and reach my

destination as well. It taught me many things in the teaching and learning strategies and to

invent an innovative approach to teach my pupils. Even though, I have more than thirteen

years of teaching experience but I felt that I still have to learn more and continue my leaning.

Life long learning is a must for each educator as well to achieve their goal in as a good

educators.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT

I would like to continue my innovation project to my further teaching lessons. The innovated

method is helping my pupils to write sentences with less structure erors. Even though, they

had captured the method, but there are some errors such as late pick up to identify the

correct word. In the innnovation project done, I think there must be some changes need in

the method. The pupils will learn to identify the words correctly according to the picture

given.

After every lesson, I need to include pupils verbal feedback, so that the pupils learn more

from the other peers comments. By listening to the comments from the pupils I could plan

my lesson more effectively. By giving peer feedback pupils could revise the weak areas and

clarify them. Feedback is a must for every lesson, and the instant feedback will help both

teacher and the pupils.

The task that I gave during the end of the lesson was a little difficult for the pupils to answer.

That was because they were having lack of vocabularies knowledge and do not know the

correct name that describes the pictures given. During the activity I realized that, the pupils

struggled to find the answer. I have to plan a further more well before preparing the tasks for

the pupils in future.
