LAKEWOOD PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCHJANUARY, 2019 NEWSLETTER
Happy New Year
Happy New Year! Almost everybody says it. It’s a way to say “I want you to have things better in this year than they were in the last year.
What a wonderful wish. It’s one that says I care about you even if I don’t know you. I believe that is true for most people who use this greeting.
As much as other human beings want us to have a good new year, I believe God wants it even more. God has always wanted His people to have a great life.
Read some of the promises that God has given to His people over time:
Ezekiel 36:26 says: 26And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. Ezekiel 36:26 (NLT)
Jeremiah 29:11-13 says:For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. Jeremiah 29:11 - 13 (NLT)[Note: This was spoken to the scattered people of Israel, but many believe it is true for all believers any time and anyplace.]
Matthew 19:28-30 says: “Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that when the world is made new and the Son of Man sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life. But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then. Matthew 19:28 - 30 (NLT)
John 16:24 says: You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. John 16:24 (NLT)
John 10:10 says: The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 (NLT)
God wants us to have a good future. He wants us to have a better future than we can even imagine. 20Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)
It sounds like God would say Happy New Year to us, too.
So, Happy New Year from me, and probably from God, too.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Love in Christ,Pastor Kirk

We continue to support the Methodist Children’s Home with our monthly Red Bucket Collection, taken the last Sunday of each month. No collection was made for the month of December as we had enough in reserve to purchase Christmas gift cards ahead of time so the Home Administrators could shop for the children knowing what they needed and wanted.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY WITH LAKEWOOD PARK UMC
PT Admin Assistant
Lakewood Park United Methodist Church is seeking a Christian part-time applicant for the position of administrative assistant. Duties include handling phone calls, maintaining databases, assisting pastor and church staff, and contributing to our bulletin, newsletter and website. In addition to excellent people skills, applicant should possess a working knowledge of basic Microsoft programs. Please email your resume to: [email protected] Attention Jay Bell.
What are Chrismons?Chrismons are a type of Christmas Tree decoration used in many churches and often in the homes of Christians. The symbols used represent a variety of
biblical and theological concepts that are well known among most believers. Often, if the ornaments on a Christmas tree are
comprised mostly of Christian symbols, the tree is known as a "Chrismon Tree."
Chrismons are white with gold decorations of beads, ribbon, glitter, etc. It is common,
however, to see these ancient Christian designs in other colors than white and gold. These would not be Chrismons,
however, but simply Christian symbols -- and there's nothing wrong with that!
As you begin to put away your Christmas decorations and clean house from the holidays, please keep in mind that we will be holding our annual church yard and bake sale Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26 from 8:00am-1:00pm. You can drop them off at the FLC (rear door) beginning beginning Wednesday, January 2nd. Monday through Thursday from 9:00am – 11:30am. What a great time to pass on “no longer wanted” items and help your church. Thank you!
