Lake Texoma Development Symposium Draws Hundreds from Region The Texoma Regional Consortium hosted its first annual Lake Texoma Development Symposium that drew two hundred people from both sides of the Red River to the Choctaw Conference Center last Friday. This meeting was focused on how Texas and Oklahoma, private developers, municipalities, and other stakeholders can work together for the greater good of the region’s most valuable natural resource— Lake Texoma. The Lake draws millions of tourist each year and with the new developments this area could draw not only more tourists, but also more residents, which in turn will pump millions of dollars into the economy. The Symposium was facilitated by Shawn Grindstaff, who has extensive experience working with these types of projects. He shared many examples on how to retain the integrity of the lake with the significant growth the region is experiencing. According to Shawn the most important aspect of this meeting was that everyone was moving in the same direction and focused on the greater good of the region regardless of personal interest. Many questions were asked about timelines. Two of the larger projects will be developed in phases. So the final completion dates have not been established. Developers included Scott Fisher-Pointe Vista, George Shculer- Schuler Development, and Susan McHorse-Rock Creek. Other speakers included Oklahoma Senator Jay Paul Gumm, Denison Mayor Robert Brady, Army Corp of Engineers-Steve Nolen , Choctaw Nation-Matt Gregory, Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum, Durant City Manager Jim Dunegan, and Marshall County Commissioner Royce Bartee. The next step will be convening a small group of stakeholders to take the next step, which will follow-up on several of the issues addressed in this meeting.
