Wise’s Words of the Week: Greetings from Lake Street Elementary—home of the 4-Star Dazzling Dolphins
The Dolphin Pool was a busy place again this week. Walk-to-School Day, anti-bullying lessons and skits, Student Council speeches and elections, Homecoming Parade tonight…we are ac-tive dolphins over here learning many new things every day. Check out all the pictures throughout this newsletter.
Thank you parents for supporting us with the half day schedule this past Wednesday. The workshops our teachers participated in were very fruitful. CPCSC teachers are amazing! I facilitated a workshop for all 4th grade teachers in the corporation. We worked on our learn-ing goals and scales as well as sharing how we implement them into our curriculum. What a worthwhile afternoon it was! Thank you for your tremendous support of our schools be-cause of it we can continue our educational success.
Walk to School Day was a great success, we had 74% of our students “Walk to School” this year which is an 8% increase over last year. We are thankful to all our kids, parents, zone leaders, volunteers and the Bodamer Family for organizing this event. A special thank you to the community members who donated some fabulous surprises: Michelle Brown State Farm, Bryan and Julie Bodamer and Hub Bootery. Check out our winners below:
Samuel Carraher – a basket of goodies from Michelle Brown State Farm (an IPod was part of the basket)
Nathan Collins – gift card to Hub Bootery

Congratulations to the October Artists of the
Month
October is ”National Bullying Prevention Month” and we
will be discussing the topic here at Lake Street. The State of Indiana provides an official definition of bullying as unwanted, aggressive behavior that is:
1. REPEATED- Happens more than once
2. INTENTIONAL- Happens on purpose to be mean
3. HAS AN IMBALANCE OF POWER-makes the target feel afraid
Bullying can come in different forms as well: physical, verbal, social, electronic or written. Wherever or how-ever it happens, it is NOT acceptable. It is important that we as adults understand the differences between bullying and peer conflicts or friend issues.
Every class will have a special opportunity to learn about bullying and its effects on others. Some of our 5th grade role models will be participating in skits on Fri-days during the announcements. Our younger grades will also have special presentations in their classrooms. Bracelets are also being distributed to your children with the slogan Stand Up Against Bullying.
Know that anytime your child is having a problem at school regardless of the reason, we will do our best to find a solution and deal with the problem.

October is Anti-Bullying
Month
October is National Bullying Prevention
Awareness Month. Bullying is when teasing becomes
hurtful, unkind, and ongoing. Bullying can also range from
hitting, shoving, name calling, and threats. Please make
sure you take some time during this month to sit and talk
with your kids about bullying. We will provide students
with information and commercials acted out during our
morning announcements. Our message will be that we
promote kindness here at Lake Street. Make sure to wear
your anti-bully shirt or just blue on Fridays for the month
of October. “Bullying—We don’t do that here at Lake
Street!” Mrs. Wise
