Letter fromD.I.L.Dear Mr. T. Loury: I found it. The answer I have been look-

ing for these past few years. It took the read-ing of a great many books, but I have found it.

It is in the book by Zuhdi Jasser entitled: A Battle for the Soul of Islam.

What is the problem confronting us with regard to Islam?

Dr. Jasser explains the problem under-standably, and concisely.

1. We are talking about 2 issues, Islam and Islamism.

2. One is religion. And worthy of reli-gious freedom

3. The other is political, and in NO way covered by religious freedom. This is what the beef is all about

4. The radicals are trying to slip the po-litical in under the cloak of religion. It in NO way qualifi es as religion.

5. Jasser calls for the separation of mosque and state, just as we call for the separation of church and state. Sounds like good old fash-ioned American logic to me.

6. Those of the Islamic religion, believe in, and want the separation of mosque and state.

7. Jasser’s family lived under, lost ev-erything, and suffered under Assad in Syr-ia. Calls Assad the worst tyrant in history. When you experience it, you have a differ-ent perspective.

8. Even, those who have fl ed Syria, are kept in check, by threats to remaining fam-ily in Syria.

9. AIFD American Islamic Forum for Democracy: For those who are not readers, or who wish to follow up on this issue, Dr. Jasser has this organization working on the problem. It is on the net.

AS I SEE ITWith the Presidential Elections so close,

the media spends more and more time re-porting, analyzing, editing, distorting and inventing politically biased news items in support of their chosen candidate. And, of course, there’s a steady fl ow of letters-to-the-Editor and online postings, all of which have the same goal – ‘Elect My Candidate’. I think it’s very important to read and con-sider all points-of-view. And I think it’s very important for each of us to be aware of our biases.

Where the problem starts is with (so many) people who see their point-of-view (bias) as being the one-and-only truth. My life experience shows that extremism is, in fact, the enemy of freedom. Left-wing/socialist/communists are just as likely to destroy the ‘free press’ (which includes all ‘free’ communications) as are Right-wing/republican /conservatives.

This column might not have had any infl uence or impact on anyone during over 25 years of publication. It’s just a token of

my resistance to governments and ‘big busi-ness’s ‘natural’ goal of eliminating opposing opinions. You only have to read a newspa-per or watch TV to confi rm that, in our area the media are dominated by a right-wing, Republican bias. I doubt that there is any thinking person who does not know what’s at stake in the Presidential Election later this year. To me it’s simple - ‘Vote Republican’ and take the USA back to the ‘Bush League’ years of foreign military adventures, uncon-trolled big business polluting our rivers, our air and our society. Unlimited ‘executive paychecks’ at the expense of the sharehold-ers, their employees and the product & ser-vice buying public.

Funding those excesses by cutting Social Security and Medicare, allowing companies to ‘borrow’ from their employees pension funds (which are lost when they fall into bankruptcy). And continuing the destruction of the Middle Class, working Americans, many of whom, under Bush administrations, have lost their homes, their jobs, their sav-ings-everything they had worked for their whole lives.

The alternative is ‘Vote Democrat’. I think it’s called a ‘Hobson’s Choice’ or ‘be-tween a rock and a hard place’. When the Republicans talk about the massive bor-rowing under President Obama, they fail to admit that we are borrowing that money to pay off the trillions of dollars which were lost under the Republican Presidency. Who wants to go back to that?

Here a few quotes from Republican Presi-dential candidate Mitt Romney:- ROMNEY QUOTE - “I’m going to champion small business. Look, small businesses typically pay tax at the individual tax rate. By the way, don’t be expecting a huge cut in taxes, because I’m also going to lower deductions and exemptions”.

AISI - (As I See It) – Romney seems to be saying “I’ll lower taxes for small businesses. But don’t expect a cut in taxes.” Does that make any sense?

AISI - It’s also relevant to note that the ‘Tax Policy Center’ found that the Romney Plan could not pay for itself unless he also targeted middle-class deductions which, of course, would cancel out their tax cut.

The Romney Tax Plan is mathematically impossible.

ROMNEY QUOTE -THE ‘BIRTHER’ - ‘My dad was unfortunately born to Ameri-cans living in Mexico”.

ROMNEY QUOTE - “We have a presi-dent (OBAMA), who I think is a nice guy, but he spent too much time at Harvard.”

FACT - Mitt Romney, has two Harvard degrees.

ROMNEY QUOTE -”I saw my father march with Martin Luther King”.

FACT - Romney later admitted he didn’t see his father march with King, nor did his father ever march with the civil rights lead-er.

ROMNEY QUOTE on ‘Sending our children to war’. -”My sons have chosen not to serve in the military and active duty and I respect their decision”.

ROMNEY (Dumb) QUOTE -”When you have a fi re in an aircraft, there’s no place to go and you can’t (get) oxygen from outside because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they (don’t fi x) that. It’s a real problem”.

FACT - Opening a window (or door) in a pressurized cabin at 35,000 feet with 500-mile-an-hour winds would, indeed be a ‘real problem’.

ROMNEY QUOTE (1 of 2) -”I don’t manage the money that I have. In order to make sure that I didn’t have a confl ict of in-terest I have a blind trust”.

ROMNEY QUOTE (2 of 2) - “The blind trust is an age-old ruse, which is to say, you can always tell the blind trust what it can and cannot do. You give a blind trust rules.”

ROMNEY QUOTE - “There are 47 per-cent of the people who are with (OBAMA)

PUBLISHER’S NOTES

I live on a farm out in the boone docks. I reported not too long ago that we had a plant that was bloom-ing at least a dozen purple trumpet looking fl owers. Since then I have found the name

Mexican Petunia. We have had at least twelve every day for months, They fall off at

night and new ones open the next morning. On September 20th we had a new record 28 blooms. I normally don’t get caught up in these things but maybe I’m taking time to smell the petunias.

for this separate from all our taxes. About 14% of our income is collected by the fed-eral government for all of our working life. This is your personal investment.

If you took 3% of your total investment, you could draw over $3,000 per month for 33 years.

The folks in Washington pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madoff ever did. They took our money and used it elsewhere. They ignored that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn’t have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them.

And now, to add insult to injury, they’re calling it a benefi t, as if we never worked to earn every penny of it. Just because they borrowed the money, doesn’t mean that our investments were a charity! Lets take a stand.

Reduce the federal budget to support our own population. NO MORE FORIEGN AID! Maybe disaster relief and help with natural disasters. At home drill for oil, build power plants, build roads and parks, teach-ing our children, creating new technologies, discovering cures for illness.

Obama not to come to their town, they had to suspend fl ights of the fi re fi ghting tankers because the big O came to town. No air traf-fi c could be in his vicinity, so the fi refi ghting planes had to stop.

The big O (zero) spent hundreds of thou-sands of taxpayers money to fl y across the

country in Air Force One to Colorado to make a campaign stop in the middle of a tre-mendous fi re, thereby totally disrupting all the fi refi ghting and police efforts, and caus-ing millions more in fi re damage to forests and homes... and peoples lives… all just to make himself look more prominent in the news. This is what we have for a President of our country now folks.

the real cause of the terrorist attacks. It was not an unseen movie! I was watching the news and the rioters were chanting ”We are all Osama! That statement Osama is Dead is a billion times more visable than this unseen, distasteful movie. Don’t chas-tise the fi lm maker, chastise Obama! Where are we going with this for a sitting president to brag about killing someone and using it in a campaign slogan.

ECONOMIC AND MARKET REVIEW

I n f o r m a t i o n brought to you by Advance Capital Management

Do Earnings Matter?

A question that I hear frequently is Do earnings mat-ter anymore? I feel this is a very good

question given the complexity and volatility of the markets today. And yes, earnings do matter and I will answer the question with a comparison between Apple and Facebook.

Apple, Inc. has become the darling of

Wall Street and their products are now found everywhere in both the corporate and personal market place. The common stock price which traded at roughly $90 at the close of 2008 closed at $676.27 on 9/6/2012. What accounts for this substantial upward movement in the price of Apple stock? I believe that a great deal of it has to do with Apples earnings (or profi ts) and their sub-sequent earnings growth. For example, in 2009 Apple earned $9.22 per share in earn-ings. Earnings per share continued to climb hitting $15.11 per share in 2010, $28.05 in 2011, and are forecasted to be over $44 per share in their fi scal year which ends in Sep-tember of 2012. As a result of this Apples

common stock price grew along with their corporate earnings.

On the other hand Facebook, Inc. was the much anticipated IPO (Initial Public Offer-ing) released in May of this year. Facebook was priced to IPO investors at a price of $38 per share. The stock opened trading on the exchange at $42.05 and rose to $45 per share within the fi rst ten minutes of trading. From the high point of $45 per share the stock traded down to under $18 per share by early September. Why the reversal of fortune for Facebook shareholders? I believe that it has to do with Facebook’s earnings. In 2011 Facebook earned .43 cents in earnings per share. The forecast for 2012 currently stands at a level only .06 cents higher at .49 cents per share in earnings. It is very hard to justify a high stock price with low profi ts.

So when investors ask me if earnings still

matter I say absolutely. It is new products and services that customers want that drive earnings and earnings that drive stock pric-es. There is also a level to which investors are willing to pay for a certain amount of earnings. At their current closing price of $676.27 and an earnings forecast consensus of $44.10 per share Apple common stock is trading at 15.3 times their forecasted earn-ings per share. On the other hand at $18.96 (the closing price of Facebook on 9/6/2012) Facebook is currently trading at 38.6 times their forecasted earnings per share for 2012. I fi nd it interesting that even after a 55% fall from its initial trading price Facebook still sells at over 38 times its current forecasted earnings level while Apple sells for a little over 15 times their current forecasted num-ber.

AS I SEE IT

who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing.

AISI – Isn’t that nice? Romney doesn’t believe that the ‘average’ American is guar-anteed health care, food and housing. I think he must have some cousins who run things down in Haiti.

ROMNEY QUOTE on Medicare – Rom-ney chose Paul Ryan as his running-mate. They have said that Obama will cut Medi-care by $716 Billion under the Affordable Care Act.

FACT - The Affordable Care Act lowers prescription costs and closes the infamous ‘doughnut hole’ as well as improving the long-term funding of Medicare. Also Paul Ryan himself included Obama’s Medicare changes in his budget, a budget that Mitt Romney also endorsed.

Brody, a pre-kindergartener, left his Christmas tree decorating friends to catch up on the local news.

This Newspaper isSmokin!

A Moving NightmareBy Charlotte Poss Moving is a big enough nightmare when

a person is young and changing jobs. How-ever, try doing a big move when you are a senior with a disabled spouse and living on a fi xed income.

I would like to enlighten the public about moving across country, it really should not turn into a move from hell.

Step one; you start out by obtaining es-timates from different agencies. Make sure you pick a reliable van line. Read all the fi ne print and make an informed decision.

Step two; when you do pick the compa-ny you want to be responsible for all your worldly possessions, go over the contract detail by detail.

Step three; make sure that you have a

binding contract that states a delivery date. Most van lines will give you an agreed upon delivery date consisting of an early date, last date, and a preferred date. If the van line does not deliver by the last date, depending on your contract you are entitled to a daily compensation for every day that the truck is late. This is about a hundred dollars a day. This does not guarantee that you will not have to wait twenty to thirty days to receive your items or what condition they will ar-rive. The one hundred dollars a day will not pay for hotel, meals, clothing, and personal needs while you await your delivery.

Step four; insurance, the van lines only pay sixty cents a pound for any lost or dam-aged items, they offer insurance to cover your property unless you waive purchasing

their insurance in lew of your homeown-ers or renters insurance. (That is if your insurance company covers you during your move). A good example is my laptop with case, charger and software was missing, cost 1250 dollars, weight about 15 pounds @ 60 cents a pound this comes to 9 dollars. You get that only if you can prove that this item is lost or damaged.

Step fi ve; with every move you will re-ceive a piece of paper called Inventory Con-trol Form (a bingo sheet). This is a sheet with has number in boxes ranging from 1 to 500, that will be matched with your items that were put on the truck. You must have one person who will check these boxes off as the movers bring in your items and call off the numbers.

Now, remember you have just waited 30 days to receive your belongings have lived

in a hotel for that length of time (or family if you are lucky). You have worn the same 4 changes of clothing for the past month and spent most of your time in a Laundromat. In addition, you have been paying rent on an empty apartment or house that you can-not occupy without furniture. You have not seen your belongings for over a month and do not have the slightest idea of where ev-erything was or how it was kept at that un-known location.

Imagine four men bringing items into your home calling off numbers, which are not in numerical order out to you as they march by and no way can you check if the numbers are the same as what you are look-ing for on that bingo sheet. You see some boxes that are damaged and some that look like they are re-taped but the men keep bringing boxes in faster than you can keep up. Some of the more damaged boxes you open and fi nd breakage. The movers mark it down at the end of the delivery as damaged. One item a glass table lamp another the shade to that lamp with a large hole in it (75 dollar shade, weight 3 pounds @ 60 cents a pound $1.80), Lamp 199 dollars, weight 8 pounds@ 60 cents a pound $5.00)

Imagine, that they must have stored your belongings in a coal mine or quarry, every-thing is covered with black steaks and grit, every single item has to be cleaned, scrubbed or thrown out. You know that when you packed, everything was in good condition and if you are like me, you washed or pol-ished items before packing them. Moving can be a nightmare. Read your contract make sure your contract is a binding con-tract. Make sure that you have proper insur-ance for your move. If your homeowners insurance does not cover it, make sure you buy insurance that will. If the van line that you pick does not give good coverage and nitpicks what they will pay for, buy your own coverage. The van line would not even give me the measly 9 dollars for my laptop as they said that I could not prove that it was ever packed or that it was missing. So be careful when you move and are picking a van line. Check every angle read every page. Even the big well-known van lines can give you a nightmare like mine. We had over $2500.00 in lost, missing or damaged items. Mine was a well-known nationwide van line and I had that nightmare from hell. It could happen to you.

ER? I’m sure the fi rst

thing you think of when you hear or see the term “ER” is “emergency room”. However, I would rather you think right now of the two words “epiph-any” and “revela-

tion”. Although both words have religious inference when capitalized, here we wish to use epiphany as having a sudden manifesta-tion of the essence or meaning of something

and revelation as something revealed or dis-closed, especially a striking disclosure as of something not before realized.

In this context I would like you to think of having an “ah haw” (epiphany) moment of something that already exists (revela-tion) in the fi eld of science. In fact, that is what science is really all about. We discover things, through research, that already exist here on earth and/or in the universe. It’s not that we have created anything, but we have just come to the realization that it exists. We usually have these epiphanies that lead to revelations in small increments, as we dis-cover a truth that then later leads to a greater

truth. For example, we “discovered” sev-eral centuries ago that the earth was not fl at, but spherical (round). In fact it was fi nally Christopher Columbus, through his voyages that refuted that archaic belief. Then later we” discovered” we could leave this earth and travel into space to the moon. Now we are setting our sites on traveling to Mars and beyond to discover more, or as Captain Kirk said in the opening lines of Star Trek: “Space --- the Final Frontier…to explore strange, new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before”.

I bring this up because I just recently took a trip up North that included personal stops at several locations in Ohio with some family members that I have not seen for years. Believe it or not, my fl ight from Or-lando was fl ight #1492 to Columbus, Ohio. Now for those of you not remembering your history, 1492 was the year (in fact it was October of 1492) that Christopher Colum-bus “discovered” The Americas for Spain and started the “Modern Age”. This is what gave me the idea for this article. I am not a genealogy buff, but I have a cousin that lives

in Salt Lake City who is such a “buff” and he contacted me about our families’ history on my mother’s father’s side. It turns out that several of my relatives founded several towns in southern Ohio. In fact, our family roots on that side go back to 1635, only 20 years after the Pilgrims, passengers on the famous ship the Mayfl ower, founded the colony at Plymouth, Massachusetts (known as “America’s Hometown”) in 1620. It was in 1635 that four brothers traveled across the Atlantic from England and initially settled in what is now the Boston, Massachusetts area. Three of the four then traveled into what is now southern Ohio.

So I met with members of my family to briefl y visit certain historical sites that related to our family history, including the towns founded by our forefathers. In fact, the family still owns a 250 acre farm and at another family site is where one of the infa-mous “Morgan’s Raids” occurred.

Now what does this have to do with epiphany and revelation? Well, read next month’s article to fi nd out!

Leesburg - “R U C2 Ready?”This year’s annual “Education Innova-

tions” event on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Leesburg High will highlight how Lake County students are preparing to be College & Career Ready.

The event will kick off with guest speak-er Kevin Baird, Chairman of Common Core Institute. The focus of his speech will be about Common Core State Standards, a state-led effort to establish a shared set of clear educational standards for language arts and mathematics that 48 states have volun-tarily adopted. These standards are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to go to college or enter the workforce.

The keynote speaker as well as a few per-formances from school chorus groups will take place in the auditorium of Leesburg High School, located at 1401 Yellow Jacket Way. Following these activities at about 7 p.m. the audience will be encouraged to stop by the school’s courtyard where more than 50 educational booths will display student-led demonstrations, activities and programs that showcase how students are becoming career and college ready.

A number of the educational displays will feature the Lake County School District’s Career and Technical Education programs, including Agritechnology, Automotive Col-

America. We have been a Christian country since the beginning of America, and have remained so for over 200 years. We can no longer pray in our schools because someone may be offended, saying Merry Christmas has become taboo because someone may not believe that Christ doesn’t exist, now praying before a government meeting is un-constitional. Prayer has always been part of America. God has always been part of America. It’s about time we started to fi ght to keep the America we have had for over 200 years and those who do not like the way we do things here, can take the fi rst plane, boat, bus, or whatever transportation they want and leave. Please don’t try to change who we are and what we do.

*************

Patty saysPrayer and/or a moment of silence have

no place at a business meeting where county commission business is being conducted. Don’t try to force your religious practices on others.

That is my opinion and if you wish to make sure this came from me, you are wel-come to call me.

***************Shelia says:Don’t Let The Devil Call The Tune...

the letter mentions that The Freedom from Religion Foundation has 18,000 members with 800 in Florida. I am sure if you totaled the number of church members in Marion County it would eclipse those numbers com-bined. Thank God we elect offi cials who are willing to pray. One nation under God and our county under God.

***************Editor, My wife and I use The American Patri-

ot’s Bible for our daily devotions. Rather than paraphrase what I have learned from that book about prayer to precede a govern-ment meeting I am going to quote a couple of relative paragraphs from the book.

1. “When our Nation’s Founding Fathers gave us documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and others, they had to lean upon a common understanding of law, govern-ment, social order, and morality. That un-derstanding sprang from the common accep-tance of what has come to be known as the Judeo-Christian Ethic, which is a system of the moral and social values that originates in the Old and New Testaments of the Word

of God. Whether each of the Founding Fathers

was a Christian is not the issue. Their writ-ings, their statements, and their votes evi-dence the fact that the majority of them em-braced these great principals as the basis for a civilized nation.”

Each chapter of The American Patriot’s Bible has references to events in our Na-tion’s history. One such event was the con-vention where the US Constitution was to be fi nalized.

2. “In the summer of 1787, as America’s Founders met at Independence Hall in Phila-delphia to hammer out the specifi cs of our nation’s governing constitution, tempers fl ared among the delegates of the 13 colo-nies to such an extent that the entire conven-tion was in danger of breaking down. Into this atmosphere thick with division and con-fl ict, am 81-year-old statesman slowly rose to speak words of profound wisdom.

Although one of the least religious of our nations Founders, Dr. Benjamin Franklin, nonetheless understood how crucial moral and biblical virtues would be to this new-born republic. Appealing to the words of Psalm 127:1, Franklin addressed George Washington, president of the convention, and counseled his fellow delegates to be-seech the aid of Almighty God before they proceeded further:

I have lived, sir, a long time, and the lon-ger I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without

His notice, is it probable that an empire

can rise without His aid? We have been as-sured, sir, in the Sacred Writings, that “ex-cept the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain that build it.”

I fi rmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall suc-ceed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate in-stance, despair of establishing governments

(Continued from Page 10) by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war, and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move that hence-forth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our delibera-tions, be held in this assembly every morn-ing before we proceed in business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be re-quested to offi ciate in that service.

God, indeed, answered the prayers of the Founding Fathers, as on September 17, 1787, the drafting of the U.S. Constitution was completed, the greatest political docu-ment ever written. Franklin’s words remain forever true: as our nation faces today’s po-

litical, moral, and spiritual issues, we shall fail in this “grand experiment” of liberty un-less we seek the “assistance of Heaven.”

************Evelyn says dear Editor:Response to the article entitled DANC-

ING with the DEVIL in the September is-sue. The title certainly caught my attention, the article broke my heart! Surely there are more than 18,000 Christians in America who are not afraid to confess their faith in the one true God through Jesus Christ His son. How about more than 800 Christians in Florida who will defend our right to seek God’s wisdom through prayer when con-ducting business of any kind? As of this date September 12, 2012. I do believe that in the halls of Congress we still have invocations and a spiritual infl uence for the good. Word has it even that right is being challenged.

There is no doubt that the reason this “leaving God out heresy” is spreading is be-cause we who proclaim Christ are not stand-ing up to be counted. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and I am tired of being told by a small majority that my voice cannot be heard.

When a nation or people deny God’s authority you can be sure that punishment will come. This nation was founded on re-ligious freedom and specifi cally that being Christian. We have become so “politically correct” that the real truth has been pushed aside. After all this is America; at least for now.

I think that if one dances with the devil long enough the only place you will land in

is hell. Scripture is specifi c in stating that our Lord does not wish that on anyone. So thank you to TomL Publishing LLC for a format to support the truth. Keep up your good work.

************Dear Mr. Loury, I would like to comment on your article

“Dancing with the Devil” where the Marion Board of County Commissioners came un-der attack for having an invocation prior to Commission Meetings from the Freedom from Religion Foundation.

I have done some research on the sub-ject of public prayer and as it states on the United States Senate website when the Sen-ate fi rst convened in New York City on April 6, 1989, one of its fi rst orders of business was to appoint a committee to recommend a candidate for chaplain. Since that time, chaplains of various religious denomina-tions have served the Senate. In addition to opening the Senate each day in prayer, the current Senate chaplain’s duties include spiritual care and counseling for senators, discussion sessions, prayer meetings and a weekly senators‚ prayer breakfast. The Flor-ida legislative meetings begin with prayer. Many County, City and Town Commission meetings begin with a prayer.

There are over 19 million people living in Florida according to the 2011 United States Census Bureau and because two out of 800 Florida members of the Freedom from Religion Foundation make a complaint that they object to prayer and expect the Marion Board of County Commissioners

to discontinue the long-standing practice of saying a prayer prior to Commission meet-ings is simply ludicrous. An invocation and Pledge of Alliance is said prior to meetings, so if someone does object to the prayer, that person(s) is always welcome to come in af-ter the prayer is over, since people come and

go throughout the meetings anyhow, so they would not be missing any part of the actual meetings.

Please find above photo from the chamber breakfast with, on Left, Sidney Brock, Heritage Community Church (a member of Project Legacy), Dr. Susan Moxley, Superintendent of Lake County Schools center, and Karen Mercer of Brown & Brown Insurance, right. Dr. Susan Moxley spoke to the attending crowd on “The State of our Local Education System in Lake County as it Relates to the Northern Lake County Area”. Dr. Moxley also highlighted the importance of partnerships among local businesses, civic groups, churches and individu-als to help address the needs of children within their community while leveraging resources to help meet those needs.

Budget deficitMany Democrats talk about Obama in-

heriting a huge deficit from Bush, so let take a short history lesson.

Budgets come from Congress not the White House. The Democratic party has controlled Congress since January 2007. They controlled the budget process for 2008 and 2009, as well as 2010. In that first year, the Dems had to contend with Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush belatedly got tough on spend-ing increases. For 2009, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep gov-ernment running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a mas-sive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.

Where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. Let‘s look at what the deficits was during that period.

The Democrats did not inherited any def-icit, the 2007 deficit, the last of the Repub-lican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

What Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January

School Board Turmoilby Tom LouryAnother flare-up in the school board

chambers. You’ve got to give Jackie Porter credit for being gutsy. A lone vote not to approve $500,000 for new roofs for three buildings at Dunnellon High school. This writer lived in Dunnellon and heard teach-ers and people around town talking about how fast the construction was going bad in-cluding talk about the roof leaking. I believe there was talk about the roof leaking before it was eight years old. Back then there was a decision to look into it. Matter of fact I think Bobby James was the principal back then and he is now part of the School Board, why don’t they ask him? The roof was prob-ably patched. Who was the contractor? What was the warranty? The current School Board is not responsible for what happened that many years ago but I think it is their respon-

sibility to make things right especially when they are spending the tax payers’ money.

What can they do? Talk to their attorneys and ask what legally can be done and come out with a statement. The statute of limita-tions probably ran out.

Jackie Porter is asking these questions wanting answers and she is being ridiculed for it. Yes the if the roof is leaking it needs

How do you like Obama Now?

Let me tell you how my Tom‘s Picks is growing and what I am doing to develop it.

Tom’s Picks is helping about 100 rea-ders every 90 days. It astounds me that we are getting calls at this rate. I will refer you to my customers first. Then I look for ser-

vices under well known Business Clubs and Chambers of Commerce to try to get you the Best of the Best. Part of the weeding process is they must be highly visible in the com-munity, like active in the Chamber, or other large groups that screen their members.

Progress Energy Speaker A New Philly Is Born

A philly born this morning on the Loury Ranch. Pictured is Lindsay Sykes holding her philly just hours old. To be fair the light spots on the new philly is the sun coming through the trees, but she is colorful and already likes people. The coldest or near coldest day of the year, 20 degrees at daylight she was found prancing in the pasture next to her mother.

“The Party of No”On November 18, 2009, Senate Major-

ity Leader Harry Reid unveiled the Senate’s health care reform legislation. Unlike the health care bill passed in the House of Rep-resentatives, Senator Reid’s proposal would allow the

Secretary of Health and Human Servic-

es to include coverage of elective abortion services in the government-run health care reform.

I am the Party of No. No to being forced to pay for someone’s abortion. No to gov-ernment-run health care insurance. No to Democrats’ closed door pork barreling

Pictured is Tom Loury of TomL Publishing and Jerry Miller of Progress Energy. Jerry was the guest speaker at the Lady Lake Chamber breakfast meeting. Jerry pointed out many thing that the business people did not, but the thing that impressed me most was the jobs the building of the new Nuc plants would bring to an area. The new Crystal River Plant would bring upwards to 8,000 for approximately 8 years. You can just imagine what 20 Nuc plants would bring to the US economy.

16th Annual Fishing Derby Tempers Flare with School Board MeetingMarion County School BoardBy Tom LouryI recently read an article that was in the

Ocala Star Banner, Thursday April 15, 2010 front page about Jackie Porter and the School Superintendent Yancey. If you look at the ar-ticle it is reported with Jackie Porter’s alle-ged file and the story is presented like a fe-deral court case. The interesting fact is there were no quotes from Jackie Porter and no remarks from her defending herself. It’s not because she refused to remark but in fact, she was never asked or interviewed for this story. That bothers me more than any of the following comments. I believe that everyone should have the right to defend themselves in print.

I feel somewhat responsible for some of the friction between the School Board and Jackie Porter. With the School Board, as elected officials, you would not have ex-pected a reaction like this. Elected officials give up their privacy and are fair game for any questions that comes your way. Jackie Porter said she sent Mr. Yancey a personal email asking about a sensitive question. Was it his son-in-law that was promoted to an ad-ministrative job? If the question had been anawered it would have stopped right the-re. Somehow it was brought into the school board meeting and tempers flared. I say Ja-ckie Porter was elected to watch out for our tax dollar as well as is the rest of the School Board.

We all have a personal stake in this, OUR

To the editorAfter reading the article in the Orlando

Sentinel, March 10, entitled “Your Law-makers Aren’t Tightening Their Belts” I saw red. Could the members of Congress, and I mean both the Democrats and Republicans, be more out of touch with their constituents and the hardships they are facing? When federal lawmakers vote themselves a 5 per-cent increase while families are enduring job losses, home foreclosures, 2.56 million Flo-ridians on food stamps, the U.S. banks have had their sharpest decline in lending since 1942 and the worst economy that America has seen since the Great Depression of the 1930s you know for sure that Congress is totally out to lunch. Foreclosures are up 6% over last year and the average unemploy-ment rate in Florida at 12.2 percent is worse than the national average at 9.7 percent. Osceola and Lake County have the highest

unemployment rates at 13.5 percent among Central Florida counties. Flagler County at 17.1 percent has the states highest unem-ployment rate. What jobs has the stimulus package that was passed last year created? As I see it, the only thing it has created is more and more government and increased our debt. In addition, we now have this huge health care bill that even those who voted for it don‘t know whats in it that everyone will have to pay for. Its time the members of Congress were in touch with their constitu-ents and the hardships they are facing, were made accountable for their actions or voted out of office.

TAX money. Many of us have been prea-ching “buy local”. This story started when many businesses, elected officials and orga-nizations started encouraging people to buy local. I’m sure you have seen some of the buy local campaigns. The county is taking pride in their buy local efforts and they are buying local, but a small segment appears not to be.

At a meeting I was hearing complaints from businessman Doctor R. Ronald Cor-bett, owner of Ink Solutions who talked about his recent experience in his attempt at a bid on a $200,000 plus contract with the school system. Corbett said he went through all the paperwork and met all the regula-

The Senior Fishing Derby broke all re-cords. Hundreds turned out for the 16th annual Senior Fishing Derby, co-hosted by TomL Publishing and the City of Ocala Parks and Recreation Department.

Dozens of fisherman/women in wheel-chairs and walkers showed up to fish.

We have never had better weather - it was perfect. The fish were biting slow but there were fish there. There was so many people we may have made the fish skittish. Fish were caught and released. The big fish was a keeper size bass and the winner was Priscilla
