More Police on the Beat in Queen’s Park Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced that Queen’s Park, along with every neighbourhood in London, is set to get a second dedicated police officer on the beat.

Karen Buck MP said: “Neighbourhood police teams have proved their value but they have been cut back drastically in recent years. Westminster has lost one in three police officers since 2011.

However, our new Mayor is keeping his promise to put local communities at the heart of policing in London by boosting local police teams. This will

mean each area will have two dedicated officers and a police community support officer. I want to see this happen as soon as possible, especially in the wards like Queen’s Park where we have some of the most acute pressures.”

Resident say “Bring Back the Black Bins” Following strong representations from residents your Labour Councillors have asked the Council to reinstate the black bins on Nutbourne Street and Third Avenue at the junction with Dart Street.

Here’s what two residents have told us:

“At present, rubbish is still being left there, which is encouraging the foxes. Every morning someone still has to collect the bags and as the foxes open them, the mess has to cleaned up.”

“I am writing to ask you to put the bins back the mess in the morning it disgusting! We are telling people not to put rubbish there but it like talking to the wall. They don’t live opposite it and have to look at it all over the floor In the morning.”

STOP PRESS –we’ve just been informed that the Council has agreed to reinstate the bins.

Not one ‘affordable’ home among the luxury flats on the sports centre sites in Queen’s Park

Despite the housing crisis, the new luxury housing schemes approved by Conservative Westminster Council on and around the sports centre sites at the Moberly and Jubilee are now going up with no genuinely affordable homes.

Two-bedroom apartments on the ‘Maida Hill’ site just behind the Jubilee are being advertised at £760,000. Soon the Jubilee Centre itself will also be part of this development.

Karen Buck MP says: “Building luxury flats which offer nothing to local people needing homes, in order to save money on the running of the sports centres, is the wrong way to serve the community.”

Libraries Under Threat This month, Conservative-controlled Westminster Council ended all funding for the youth service. The Rainbow Centre for children with disabilities is threatened and Children’s Centre funding has been slashed. Now they plan huge cuts to the Libraries

Plans to cut £750,000 per year from the Libraries budget are the equivalent of more than 17 full-time members of staff. In effect this would mean losing qualified librarians who have a passion for helping our communities access life-long learning and education.

Your Labour Councillors and Karen Buck MP say there are alternatives. The Council should be looking at ways of generating revenues, not relentlessly cutting. It could look at raising money through digital access to the Council’s treasure trove of books and maps in the City Archives. On top of that, Westminster City Council doesn’t seem to think it necessary to consult the community. That only adds insult to injury.

We call for the Council to halt its plans. Local and national Government can’t continue with this relentless attack on public services. This must be stopped. Sign the petition at: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/protect-our-library
