I am an Associate Professor of Sociology and have published on Roma and grassroots activism. I am currently researching Brexit and populism.

I joined Labour in 1984 and have been a CLP Chair and member of the executive of Welsh Labour. I have also worked with civil society and was national policy officer respectively for the Gypsy and Traveller Law Reform Coalition (winner of the Liberty human rights award) and the Traveller Movement. I was also researcher to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Gypsies, Roma and Travellers. I am a board member of the Roma Education Fund, an international NGO supported by George Soros. This experience gives me the skills in campaigning and policy formulation to assist Labour International. I oppose Brexit and hope we will remain or can return at some point to a reformed EU strongly centred on the ideals of Social Europe. I am proud of Labour’s achievements, but I opposed the Iraq war and feel economic policy was too neoliberal. I support Open Labour and feel the Soft Left can help avoid excessive factionalism. Our country and party are in crisis and I, like a growing number of people, feel moved to try and do something.

• Over the last 2 years I have made my views well known regarding the lack of communication between the Labour Party and Labour International. I watched on in horror while people that have supported Labour and the international constituency were alienated and harassed until they left the party. There is a dire need for someone to mend the damage and get a Labour government in power. While we now reflect the main party , We do not have a strong enough voice to be heard. With the Brexit farce continuing, we need to be able to put our case far more strongly and ensure all of the British people either working or resident in Europe and worldwide have better representation. My track record within the party is on record Its beyond time we put our members before political ideals. If elected , I will ensure that our communications are repaired and fight for the rights of all equally. It is time we had a voice. I am more than happy to elaborate on this should anyone wish to e mail me.

I’m a retired social worker, committed to bottom-up activism. A trade unionist from 1978 until retirement, and a LP member since the 1980’s. I live in Andalucia, Spain. I’m the current co-chair of LICC and member of LILA.

As co-chair I promised to:

• Transform LI into a democratic, campaigning, outward looking CLP with an executive committee accountable to our membership.

• Build local groups and branches.

• Improve communications between members/branches.

What progress did we make?

• An expanded LIEC and more voting officers.

• A new General Committee.

• A quadrupling of branches from 5 to 22.

• Use of video-conferencing to connect members/branches.

• A revamped LI newsletter and website.

• Giving members a voice and a vote through all member meetings

• Our Open Selection campaign raised the profile of LI in the LP.

• Stronger links with the wider social movement.

There is more to do:

• Consolidating democracy/accountability in LI at all levels

• Campaigning for member democracy in the LP – Open Selection, policy formation

• Strengthening links with other campaigns/groups e.g. Green New Deal, Migrant Rights, TU’s

• Increasing the involvement of under-represented groups (Women, BAME, youth, LGBT, disability issues).

Vote for me and other LILA candidates for a more democratic LI

Since January 2018, when I volunteered with the LI newsletter team, I've learnt to produce and improve our newsletters while discovering how LI worksand who makes things happen. I was appointed as assistant editor, but I've been acting editor since February 2019.

I also got our website team started with Wordpress, and created an Open Selection campaign website and graphics.

I see this as a communications role more than a technical one, but comfort with IT is essential. I first used a computer in 1978, made a website in 1999, joined Facebook and Twitter around 2007. In LI I've quickly learnt to use Mailchimp, Zoom, Slack and Dropbox, and I'm keen to explore new platforms.

My aims include: • integrating LI communications and adapting them to our new structure,• recruiting and training an expanded team of media volunteers,• ensuring our communications fit members' needs and are accessible to

all,• creating media and training programmes with other LIEC officers,

branches and campaigns.

Having worked in a global team for a telecommunications development company, I have a background in Software Development, R&D Management and Strategic Planning. Utilising video conferencing, presenting complex material in an easy-to-understand form, compliance to high quality standards, and attention to detail were part and parcel of my full-time working life.Since retirement, and moving to France, I have developed numerous business, commercial and personal websites, using HTML, Dreamweaver, and CMS such as Wordpress; authored several blogs, created two self-published books, and currently admin a huge international FB group, as well as a smaller community group. My role as president of a local association sees me defining programmes and content, with regular bi-lingual newsletters and monthly presentations. I regularly use Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Apple Pages and Numbers. As a keen photographer, I am also experienced with Photoshop and Lightroom.I will be delighted to job share this role with Mike Crosland. Together, we will make a strong, dynamic team who will be able to improve the communications with our members and our wider communities, in line with the aims of Labour International and the Labour Party. I am a member of LILA and my actions will be in support of our manifesto and action plan.

• As a full time carer to two children with disabilities, most of my activism over the last 15 years has centred around issues of disability.

Through founding the Letterkenny Autism Support Group and representing Donegal in the Special Needs Parents Association, I have become an advocate for those with disabilities and their carers; fighting for services or highlighting the lack, assisting benefit claims and providing support to families.

Raising awareness of the challenges we face is very important for me. I was Litigation Friend when my son made legal history by becoming the first person to use the Equalities Act to enforce his right of access to a commercial premises with his assistance dog.

We must be prepared to try new ideas and methods to get people with disabilities and carers involved in the party and in decision-making. We need their experiences and voices as we challenge the Tory government on the PIP scandal, discrimination, lack of meaningful employment, scarcity of supports and services and the many other issues which need tackling.

• I joined the Labour Party in 2016 because, noticing the global shift towards right-wing populism and inspired by the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn, I wanted to help to create a fair, equal society. I co-founded the Central and East Europe BLP in 2017/18, of which I’ve been Secretary since early 2018. Since LGBT+ in Labour International was established, I’ve been working with our previous LGBT+ Officer, Rainbow Rose, local activists and NGOs in Czech Republic, particularly as we currently have a same-sex marriage debate here. As such, I’m used to working with social media, videoconferencing and on the ground. Although Czech Republic is one of the safer, more tolerant countries in my branch, it still falls behind in LGBT+ rights and I’m aware of issues LGBT+ members may face in less tolerant (or downright intolerant) countries. Also, as a Christian woman with a fluid sexual identity, I’m sensitive to issues of intersectionality and the need for inclusivity and equality in all areas. I would like to build on the work our previous LGBT+ Officer has achieved, provide safe, welcoming spaces for LGBT+ members and help enable members in activism within Labour International and the countries in which they live.

I joined the Labour Party in 2016 in support of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership and policies, and I'm now branch secretary and a member of LILA.

The policy consultations and campaigns are important to us in LI; we have no MP to represent our common interests, - votes for life, frozen pensions.

As Policy Officer I intend to:-

• promote the democractic practice of making policy• create greater transparency in the policy process• ensure all our members understand how policy is made• raise the profile of LI at the NEC and annual Conference

To achieve this I will work with our NPR representative to:-

• provide policy briefings for the 8 consultation papers• arrange policy meetings and forums to coordinate work on policy• help branches and members where necessary to draft submissions

to the NPF and motions for meetings.• Provide feedback from the NPF and Conference on the progress of

policy from LI

My first concern will be to contact all branches to find out their priorities for 2019 and establish a format for discussions, policy submissions and motions.

Those campaign have been neglected by the current LICC in favour of a spiteful campaign for so-called Open Selection. This was a simple attempt to deselect many Labour MPs that were seen as not being on the hard left. As LI does not have an MP and doesn’t select candidates for Parliament, this was a complete waste of members’ money and effort when LI should have been campaigning for things that directly affect our members. The last two years have been wasted on an irrelevant campaign. The Overseas Voters campaign is probably even more important today in the event of another referendum and the possibility of an early General Election. Labour International has a large number of its members in the European Union member states and should be fighting for the continuation of freedom of movement and our right to live, work and raise our families throughout the 28 states.

My recent positive experiences with political education/discussion at the annual meeting in Amsterdam and LI Germany´s AGM, including through videoconferencing showed what is possible. This is the kind of thing I initially want to offer members, while assisting branches and members to organise their own education. I have worked for trade union college in Germany, and am now a full-time student thanks to a labour movement bursary, so I have more time for this vital role. • Political Education has the potential to raise our political understanding, and to stimulate and engage our members in the life of the branch.

• If elected, along with my fellow Political Education Officer, I propose that we organise a survey of our members on the political subjects they would most like discussed, and which methods of discussion would most appeal to them. This could include film/documentary reviews and book reading circles; as well as traditional speaker meetings; and participatory political discussions generated by members.

• I have been a Labour Party member since 1971. I am active in the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy and a critical member of Momentum. As such I am fully behind the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn as it seeks to transform our Party and society more generally.

• I have fully supported the excellent work of the outgoing Coordinating Committee. I hope that I can help to make the new Committee even more successful.

I stand for Secretary of Labour International. At times I have served as Constituency Labour Party (CLP) Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentary Agent. More history at www.charlesjames.name .

I stand solo rather than on a slate because I understand the importance of all the members working together, including the Labour Party members who did not vote for Jeremy Corbyn. My all-inclusive approach is illustrated in http://charlesjames.name/the-effective-activist/

A good CLP Secretary is the CLP’s engine room working with the other Executive members to achieve results.

I intend to visit every branch virtually during my first year as Constituency Secretary.

Our first duty is to increase the Labour vote among the millions of British people living abroad.

We have members in positions to spread the Labour word if we will give them the information and the resources they need. Some would welcome training. I certainly would welcome better access to Labour policy because it is sometimes quite a hunt to be sure that one has accurate information.

A second issue for Labour International is to build links with the socialist parties and with labour movements in the countries where we operate.

The Party and our CLP is at a critical crossroads. Our once progressive,

internationalist, broad church is no longer recognisable – it’s overrun with members

from a far left background that don’t subscribe to democratic socialism; rather a

revolutionary brand of Soviet-era Communism.

In my view the Party has become a haven for anti-Semites and baiters of the Jewish

community – we stand on the verge of a compulsory independent investigation by the

EHRC. The problem is also, in my view, rife in our very own CLP; yet the current

Executive have allowed publishing of newsletter articles downplaying the problem

and referring to it as a weaponisation or smear – it is an utter embarrassment for a

once proud anti-racist party.

Our current leader continues to pursue Brexit (a Tory policy), against the wishes of

the vast majority of members and arguably conference policy. His personal ratings are

dire, despite the worst Tory government in history. His attitude towards foreign policy

and international relations is a humiliation.

NOMINEE Full Name Edward Lewis Email Telephone LP Membership No EITHER TWO INDIVIDUAL SUPPORTERS OR ONE BRANCH SUPPORTER 1 Name Robert Adcock Email LP Membership No SUPPORTER 2 Name Jerry Hogg Email LP Membership No 200 Word Statement Our party is Internationalist, so it is only right we have a membership grouping that has the title “Labour International”. As a group we have recently been divided on lines of little consequence to us. We need to come together to champion the rights of citizens and fight injustice in all parts of the world we live. We should not only advocate outwards but focus on making our voice heard within the party. I’ve been a proud unionist all my adult life, I’ve been an active member of Prospect, GMB, and now Professionals Australia, where I am Branch Secretary for the scientist division. I currently work as an Imaging Manager for a geophysical service provider in Perth, Western Australia. In this role, I am responsible for the scientific integrity of the projects we undertake, and handle budgets of more than $30m. I volunteer my time as Treasurer at the North Fremantle Bowling, Tennis and Community Centre, where I managed a period of financial turmoil from previous committees. This involved accounting, auditing and compiling a business plan for our receivers – which have now been repaid in full. Today the club is strong; regularly hosting community events for local residents.

LI Executive Committee Election 2019

NOMINATION FORM - CLOSING DATE 12 April 2019 at 12 noon UK time NOMINATION FOR POST OF

Treasurer

NOMINEE Full Name Ian Hollingworth Address Email Telephone LP Membership No SUPPORTER 1 Name Rowan Shaw Address Email LP Membership No SUPPORTER 2 Name Danny Speight Address Email LP Membership No 200 Word Statement My name is Ian Hollingworth. I am standing for the post of treasurer as a member of Labour International Left Alliance (LILA). Please support all other LILA candidates. I am a retired mathematics teacher with a lifetime's experience of dealing with figures. As a (much) younger man I helped my father with his business accounts. I am a conscientious and efficient candidate. This is important. I would make it my watchword to deal with all branch claims speedily - delay causes resentment. Claims should be acknowledged and when payment is made notification to that effect should be sent to the claimant. I am very willing to undertake any necessary training the Labour Party might deem necessary for the job. Working with Vice Chair Membership I would stay in touch with branch treasurers.

LI Executive Committee Election 2019

Labour International has to have its finances in order so as to operate efficiently. Arrangements around conference are a prime example. Working with the CLP Chair (who is also de facto Deputy Treasurer) I would work to produce an annual budget and fundraising plan. My attendance record at Labour International Zoom meetings is a good one and I intend to continue this practice.

The completed form should be sent to: [email protected] to arrive no later than 12 noon on Friday 12 April 2019.

• I have been a member of the Labour Party for more than 55 years and whilst I was working, an Executive member of my Trade Union. I remain a Life Member and am active in promoting Trade Union membership amongst all working people especially those in my former employers business. I am passionate about workers’ rights and have become an expert in pensions and improving the lives of pensioners.

• I believe that under the Tories, employment conditions have been seriously eroded and a strong Trade Union movement should be standing up for workers’ rights particularly if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without adequate protection against further Tory attacks.

• If the Labour Party means anything at all it should mean backing working people and their livelihoods. It was formed by the Trade Union movement more than 100 years ago and should continue to be fighting on behalf of working people.

Held various positions at factory, branch, district and national level. Always considered myself both a trade unionist and a socialist. Where possible, promoted trade unionism in the Party and socialism in TU activity. • Believe that LI offers a great opportunity in the fight for the basic ideas which unite us with trade unions everywhere: peace, security and decent working and living conditions for all. • Weakening TUs was key to Thatcherism (and successors) in undermining collective and solidarity action. We must reverse this tendency. • Support the roles and tasks set out in the job prospectus but these are clearly too much for one person. They can be achieved working as a team throughout the organisation. • If elected I'd take steps to help create such a team of members dedicated to contacting local and nation TUs; presenting LI and offering our services to promote our common aims within the limitations of our size and reach. This way LI can become another cog in an international machine rolling forward to a better world. • I support the LILA Manifesto. • https://www.dropbox.com/s/tr3ugrhzslddlei/LILA%202019%20Manifesto%20Final%20Rev%201.1.docx?dl=0 • If elected will fully support the proposed LILA action plan https://www.dropbox.com/s/p6dndu5ersmntgk/LILA%202019%20Action%20Plan%20Final.docx?dl=0

I joined the Labour Party in 1978 and was active in miners' solidarity and student politics before leaving the UK. I work on tax and trade issues. I live in Leuven, Belgium, with my partner and our two children. I am a member of LILA and have been Co-Chair of Labour International for the last two years. We have developed Labour International from a loose network of a few functioning branches and individuals into an organisation with a real presence. This election is the first under new rules negotiated with Labour HQ. Members will have a bigger say in everything that LI does, with a larger executive and a new representative body, the GC, elected to hold us to account. LI’s voice is needed more than ever. There are 5.6 million British migrants around the world and their future is more uncertain than for decades. LI will campaign for migrant rights in the UK, in Europe and in the rest of the world. Climate change threatens to destroy humanity: only a Green New Deal tackling climate and its root causes can stop that. In the past year as the LI Branch Development Officer I’ve worked closely with members on the ground to form new groups and branches across 5 continents, reducing member isolation and promoting the use of videoconferencing to do this. From a low base of 5 branches and only 20% of members in branches, I’ve now succeeded in creating 17 more branches and so that now over 90% of our members are in branches.

Working with Les, our key responsibilities will be to work closely with the Regional Organisers to continue to support the development of branches and local groups, as well as maintaining accurate membership records, and on occasion chairing LIEC meetings. I want to not only retain our current members, but also to recruit new members to LI. As a member of LILA I support the current Labour Leader, and the direction the party is going. Please support the election of other LILA candidates to the LIEC.

• • 200 Word Statement My name is Les Adams. I am standing for election to the LIEC as Membership Officer/Vice Chair as a job share position with Alan Aitkenhead.

As a member of the Labour Party for almost thirty years I have been inspired by the national leadership team and the direction that we are taking. I have held a number of previous positions within the party including Branch Membership Secretary and Labour Group Leader on the District Council.

Now recently retired, I feel that I have more time to devote to party activity and to add to the excellent progress that the LICC has made over the last couple of years. Since moving from the UK, as local co-ordinator I have, with others, helped to organise local events and to re-vitalise a dormant membership in the south of Costa Blanca.

As one of the membership team I will do everything possible to encourage new and existing members to network with each other and enable them to participate in campaigns and further the aims of Labour Party members across the globe.

By liaising with CLPs in the UK as well, I believe that we can raise the profile of Labour International within the Party.

A lifelong socialist, I joined the LP after Jeremy Corbyn’s election, encouraged by the idea that we really could transform the party into a vehicle for positive change that focussed on people, and on policies that made a difference in people’s lives.

As a social worker in a very deprived area of London for 32 years, I often saw women bearing the brunt of the impact of successive damaging policies. I also saw how supporting women’s groups could make a significant difference in raising confidence and participation towards change.

Last year I was Women’s Delegate for the LP Women’s Conference and LP Conference, and I’m a member of LILA. I also belong to the Labour Women’s Network.

The starting point for me would be taking forward the issues in the recent survey in collaboration with other women members, including a Women’s Forum, developing a skills bank, finding ways of using technology to include women struggling to participate, and liaising with other minority areas such as BAME, LGBT+ and Disability since we all intersect somewhere! These are key in working alongside women to address inequalities across our CLP, our party and the wider communities in UK and where we currently live.

William: I’m a 24 year old charity worker, currently living in Guernsey. I have really enjoyed being part of YLI for the last year, serving as their LGBTQ+ rep. I’m particularly interested in migrants rights, economic inequality and public services, as well as creating a just, pro-worker response to climate change. I hope to create interesting events for young Labour members abroad on those topics and others. I’m running for Youth Officer to represent all young Labour members abroad and help increase the profile and support the campaigning activities of young socialists wherever they are.

Patrick: I'm a 17 year old college student living in Pennsylvania. I'm interested in expanding democracy and in radical and ecological approaches to industrial and infrastructural policy. I have had a great time as Under-19s officer of YLI in the past year and I look forward to having great conversations and connecting struggles for democracy and socialism this year in YLI. I am running for youth rep to meaningfully represent young people abroad in the Labour Party and elevate the efforts of young socialists internationally
