FACT SHEET Sterlitech Corporation is one of the largest manufacturers of inorganic membranes in the world and can customize membranes for uses ranging from analytical tests to high-pressure filtration. Sterlitech specializes in products that can be used for reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, or microfiltration, have an ability to withstand extreme thermal stress, and are chemical resistant. Silver Metal Membranes: Pure metallic silver (99.97% pure silver) membranes are available with particle retention ratings of 0.2 to 5.0 microns and specified in NIOSH standard for the analysis of crystalline and amorphous silica (quartz), lead sulfide, boron carbide, and asbestos. Silver membranes are able to withstand extreme chemical and thermal stress, which makes them ideal for applications involving aggressive fluids and/or high temperatures. Low background from silver provides excellent background for XRD SEM, Raman, and XRF organic analysis. HP4750 Stirred Cell: The Sterlitech HP4750 is a high-pressure, low hold-up volume (1 mL), chemically resistant stir cell that performs a wide variety of membrane separations. The HP4750 can be used for reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, or microfiltration. It has the capacity to handle pressures up to 1,000 psig (69 bar). SEPA CF II Membrane Cell System: SEPA CF II Membrane Cell System is a lab scale crossflow membrane filtration unit that provides fast and accurate performance data with minimal amounts of membrane, product, expense, and time. Its unique patented design simulates the flow dynamics of larger, commercially available membrane elements. Membrane Disc Filters Offerings include Silver, Ceramic, Nylon, Cellulose Acetate, Cellulose Nitrate (MCE), Glass Fiber, Nylon, Polyester, Polycarbonate, PES, Polypropylene, and PTFE (Teflon®) membrane filters in a variety of sizes and devices. Syringe Filters Syringe filters are available in Cellulose Acetate, Nylon, PES and PTFE (Teflon®) with or without pre-filters. Sterile also available. STERLITECH SILVER METAL MEMBRANES The membranes are specified in a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standard for the analysis of crystalline and amorphous silica, lead sulfide, boron carbide, and chrystolite asbestos. Sterlitech™ Silver Metal Membranes can be used as the collection media and subsequent x-ray diffraction substrate for quantifying unknown minerals and compounds. CELLULOSE ACETATE (CA) MEMBRANE Sterlitech Cellulose Acetate membrane is a supported, hydrophilic membrane that is naturally low binding. It is ideal for use in enzyme loading and latex bead entrapment assay formats or as a pre-filter. FEATURES AND BENEFITS

CERAMIC MEMBRANE Sterlitech offers a ceramic membrane for Microfiltration, Ultrafiltration, and Nanofiltration. Ceramic Membranes are 2.5mm thick and available in two diameters, 47mm and 90mm. The active layer for the MF membranes is Titania and for the UF/NF membranes it is Zirconia. All the ceramic membranes use an ATZ (alumina, titania, zirconia) support layer. FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Glass Fiber Membranes Glass fiber filters can be used to extend the life of a final filter as a prefilter or they can be used alone for low cost sample clarification. The filters are available with or without binders. Binders are used to increase the strength of the membrane and also reduce media migration. Binder-free membranes are able to withstand higher temperatures. FEATURES AND BENEFITS

CONSISTENT UNIFORMITY TO IMPROVE CONTROL AND PERFORMANCE Produced through a proprietary manufacturing process, Sterlitech Nitrocellulose MCE meets rigorous quality standards throughout every step of production. This process ensures the membrane has a uniform pore structure and consistent thickness and cosmetic characteristics. This membrane is cast from a high-quality, nitrocellulose polymer. Its thickness can be controlled to plus or minus 10 microns to accommodate various applications. Sterlitech Nitrocellulose MCE is easily blocked giving a very low background. This aids in the detection of low-level analysis and makes this membrane ideal for use in lateral flow assays and dot/slot blotting. VERSATILE CAPABILITIES, CONSISTENT PERFORMANCE Produced through a proprietary manufacturing process, Sterlitech Nylon membrane meets rigorous quality standards throughout every step of production. This process generates consistent lot-to-lot binding among the membranes ensuring product uniformity. Sterlitech Nylon membrane is internally supported with an inert, internal polyester support web giving it added dimensional strength and stability that prevents cracking, tearing, curling and breaking. This added strength and durability is advantageous during usage that involves aggressive handling or automated equipment. A naturally hydrophilic membrane, Sterlitech Nylon membrane does not require wetting agents that can interfere with biological processes. Additionally, its high surface area successfully immobilizes antigens, antibodies and other proteins. The resulting membrane has a void volume of 70-85 percent for high diffusion and low-flow resistance. PRECISE PORE SIZE AND DENSITY Sterlitech PCTE membrane is produced through a two-step, proprietary manufacturing process that employs high quality standards. This unique process allows for increased control over pore size and density to ensure the physical properties of each membrane precisely fit your specifications. In the first step, thin polycarbonate film is exposed to collimated, charged particles from a nuclear pile. As these particles pass through the polycarbonate material, they leave sensitized tracks. In the second step, the polymer tracks are dissolved with an etching solution to form cylindrical pores. Varying the temperature and strength of the etching solution, and the exposure time to it, produces precisely controlled pore sizes. The resulting membrane is a thin, translucent and microporous polycarbonate film with a smooth, flat surface. All particles larger than the pore size are captured on its surface. It is ideal for use when collecting samples for blood assays or for high-purity and general filtration.

Polypropylene Membrane Filters

POLYPROPYLENE MEMBRANE FILTERS AND PRE-FILTERS POLYPROPYLENE MEMBRANE FILTERS

Sterlitech polypropylene membrane filters are composed of pure polypropylene with absolute pore size ratings. These filters offer broad chemical compatibility allowing its use with aqueous and organic solvent samples.

The polypropylene filter has extremely low extractable levels designed to provide accurate, consistent analysis results for sensitive ion chromatography applications while prolonging column life. Sterlitech polypropylene filter is the preferred filter membrane for HPLC applications where the detection levels are below 230 nm.

The filters also exhibit negligible protein binding which, is essential for maximum sample recovery of critical, small volume protein samples. Sterlitech filters are available in 0.1, 0.22 and 0.45-micron pore sizes in a wide range of disc diameters.

Polypropylene Pre-filter

POLYPROPYLENE PRE-FILTERS

These pre-filters consist of polypropylene fibers and have a lower fiber release, more defined pore size and greater retention efficiency than glass fiber filters.

Chemically and biologically inert, Sterlitech polypropylene pre-filters are recommended for pre-filtering acids, aqueous and most solvent solutions. They are also used as a final filter for noncritical filtrations to reduce costs.

Polypropylene pre-filters are available in 0.2, 0.45 and 1.2 micron nominal pore sizes.

TEFLON® LAMINATED AND UNLAMINATED FILTER MEMBRANES PTFE LAMINATED FILTER MEMBRANES

Sterlitech Laminated Teflon® membrane consists of a pure PTFE laminated to a polypropylene support for improved durability and easy handling.

PTFE UNLAMINATED FILTER MEMBRANES

Sterlitech Unlaminated Teflon® membrane consists of a pure PTFE tortuous pore structure. The larger pore sizes are thicker for easy handling. The filters are chemically and biologically inert, stable up to 260°C (500°F) and will withstand most concentrated acids and bases.

The unlaminated filters are compatible with strong acids, aggressive solvents and high temperatures, which can soften the polypropylene support of laminated Sterlitech PTFE. These filters are ideal for applications requiring stringent temperatures or chemicals without adding particulates to the filtrate.

In addition, since Sterlitech PTFE membrane filters are naturally hydrophobic, they are very useful for aerosol sampling, air venting, and gas filtration, especially in environments also containing water vapor. For filtering aqueous solutions, PTFE requires pre-wetting with alcohol to establish flow with reasonable pressure differentials.

Available in cut disc form, in 0.22, 5.0, and 10 micron absolute pore sizes.

Thickness: 0.22 µm is 50 µm thick 5.0 µm and 10.0 µm are 250 µm thick

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Sterlitech Nylon syringe filter is designed for sterilization or clarification of aqueous and solvent samples in a wide array of analytical and research applications. It is primarily used to filter small aqueous and organic samples with low hold-up volume in order to inject them directly into the HPLC sample loop systems. The filtered samples ensure column protection. The Sterlitech membrane filter is naturally hydrophilic nylon, which contains no wetting agents and yields an exceptionally low extractable level of less than 0.0015 mg/cm².

Trouble-free operation and consistent test results, the Sterlitech G filter features a 1.0-micron borosilicate glass prefilter over our nylon. Which provides high throughputs and quick flow rates with high particulate or viscous samples. The Sterlitech S filter is a presterilized, individually blister-packed 25 mm syringe filter designed for sterilization or clarification of aqueous samples up to 100 mL where low extractables and low holdup volumes are critical. Primary applications include filtering of biological fluids, buffer solutions and sterile filtering of tissue culture media. The Sterlitech nylon is pre-rinsed in methanol to completely eliminate any possible extractables, which could interfere with the results in sensitive applications. The Sterlitech nylon filter resists temperatures up to 180°C (356°F.) (See Sterlitech nylon membrane filters for a complete description of the membrane.) Pore sizes from 0.1 to 20.0 micron are available as standard or custom sizes in our syringe filters. Custom sizes require a 5,000 unit minimum. The Sterlitech 3 mm housing is manufactured of pure nylon. The 17 mm and 30 mm housings are made of pure polypropylene. These units, nylon and polypropylene are highly temperature resistant and autoclavable. The units are compatible with most organic solvents including acetone, methylene chloride and acetonitrile. The housing for the 25 mm sterile unit is manufactured of a modified acrylic designed to bi-directionally support the membrane allowing sample injection or aspiration. The S units are sterilized by gamma irradiation. All units are tested to verify the filter and housing integrity. The naturally hydrophilic Nylon membrane does not require pre-wetting with IPA and flushing with DI water thereby eliminating a potential source of contamination and hazardous waste. In addition, the hydrophilic membrane reduces the potential for bubble formation by not de-wetting in outgassing fluids unlike hydrophobic filters such as polypropylene. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Sterlitech Polyethersulfone (PES) filter capsules have been specially designed for simple, quick, and efficient filtration of fluids and gases used in laboratory, pilot, and small scale applications. The PES membrane is housed in an all-polypropylene capsule construction provides excellent chemical compatibility. No adhesives, binders, or surfactants are used in the manufacturing process and all capsules are rinsed with high purity water to reduce extractables and downtime.

The hydrophilic PES membrane does not require pre-wetting with IPA and flushing with DI water thereby eliminating a potential source of contamination and hazardous waste. In addition, the PES membrane reduces the potential for bubble formation by not de-wetting in out-gassing fluids unlike hydrophobic filters such as polypropylene. All filter capsules are 100% integrity tested to ensure filter performance each and every time out of the package. Sterlitech PES filter capsules are well suited for applications where superior flow and particle removal efficiency at 0.1, 0.2, 0.45, and 0.65 micron is required.

In addition, the hydrophobic membrane provides superior flow and pressure drop characteristics per surface area for gas filtration and tank venting applications.
