I take full responsibility for not making the instructions sufficiently clear. Sorry. We only needed ‘female’ ranges if there were different ranges for ‘males’ and ‘females’. That said, this type of data does continue to shine a light on the huge differences that exist in the real world. You may wish to keep you own log of Calendar Year or Financial Year time points if you require 'year-end' statements for your own internal use. Any analytes with out of consensus performance will be highlighted in red and can be clicked for further details.

If your laboratory is outside of the acceptable limits of performance for any its rolling time-window scores (A, B or C scores), this will be indicated by a red traffic light symbol. It is the responsibility of the laboratory to undertake an internal investigation to establish the underlying cause and put in place corrective and preventive action. Please do not wait to receive a formal notification of performance from the Scheme Organiser or the National Quality Assurance Advisory Panel (NQAAP) before logging the non-conformity and, where necessary, acting upon the data contained in your report. A green traffic light merely reflects that your laboratory is performing as well as the state-of-the-art allows; it does not necessarily mean that your assay / laboratory performance is good enough clinically. The A scores for all analytes in this report are based on concentration-dependent degree of difficulty factors and, as such, are in the same ‘currency’ as the A scores in other Schemes. Please see the online 'Explanation of the ABC of EQA' which may be found under the 'Centre' button on the UK NEQAS Results & Reports page. You will need your user-name and password to access this information.

As for clinical specimens, Birmingham Quality samples should be handled as if capable of transmitting infection. Appropriate procedures should be used both to minimise contact with samples and for their disposal. Gentamicin, penicillin and fluconazole have been added to all serum specimens.

Distribution 250 will be dispatched on Monday 21 May 2018. Results are due back in Birmingham by, notionally, 23:59 on Tuesday 12 June 2018 If any of your results appear as XPL , it is because you did not report a numerical value for that analyte, but you did provide an explanation as to why a result was not reported. You have until the close of Distribution 250 (12/06/2018) to submit late results / request amendments to results for Distribution 249. Please enter any late results or requests to amend non-analytical errors for Distribution 249 on the web under the usual Results button ensuring the correct Distribution number has been selected. You should include your name and a valid reason. Amending results is at the discretion of the Director and is not an automatic entitlement. We are not accepting any further requests to amend results or to change methods for Distribution 248.

For Interpretation of Haematinic assays please use your lab’s own reference range for each analyte and interpret the results as either L, I, N or H (low, indeterminate, normal or high). Assume all samples are from a non-vegetarian adult male with normal haemoglobin. For calculation of Red Cell Folate, please assume a haematocrit of 0.45 and that the serum folate is 1 ug/L
