Description of test elements:

Test required:

A motorised roll-up shutter.

Exploratory test on the fire resistance ofthe element tested in accordance with theCEN 1363-1 CEN 1634-1 standards.

On 26 and 28 October 2004, Flema set up the test element in cellular con crete masonry onthe laboratory premises and under their supervision. The masonry was 200 mm thick.

The test piece was prepared in accordance with the stipulations of the standard quotedbelow.

2 CONDUCT OF THE TEST.

2.1 DATE TEST PIECE PREPARED:

Page: 11

The date on which the test piece was prepared was not disclosed to the laboratory.

2.2 CONDITIONS FOR SECURING TEST PIECE.

The test element fitted in cellular con crete masonry was placed in front of the furnace inorder that it should constitute one of its external walls. The shutter was tested completewith its drive motor.

2.3 DATE OF TEST:

4 November 2004

2.4 TEST METHODOLOGY.

The exploratory fire-resistance test was carried out in accordance with the CEN 16341 standard. The supplementary operating procedure for maximum temperaturemeasurements was applied during this test.

2.5 POSITIVE PRESSURE lN THE HOT ENCLOSURE:

9.7 ± 3 Pa measured 2000 mm above the level of the base of the furnace.

ln accordance with the 1363-1 standard, the pressure level was set in compliance witt'

the following two conditions:

the zero pressure level is to be located 500 mm above the level of the sillof the test element.

the maximum pressure on the element is to be 20 Pa.

ln the knowledge that:

the level of the sill is 360 mm above the base of the furnace. ~the pressure measuring instrument in the furnace is positioned 1,000 mrrabove the vault of the furnace.

the pressure gradient in the furnace is 8.5 Pa/m.

The pressure to be maintained during the test at the measuring device is 9.7 Pa.

2.6 AMBIENT TEMPERATURE DURING TEST:

2.7 Temperature curve :

Page: 12

The temperature curve following during the test is the ISO 834 standard curve,Temperature measurements were taken using 4 thermoplates arranged in a planelocated 100 mm from the part of the test element extending furthest into the furnace. At the 10th minute, one of the four thermoplates set up in the furnace exhibited a lack 01

reliability which meant that the readings fram this thermoplate could no longer be takeninto account.

The temperatures recorded by thermoplates can be seen in Appendix 6 of this report.

2.8 SUPPORTING STRUCTURE FOR ELEMENT TESTED

The structure used to support the element being tested consisted of cellular concreteblock masonry. The supporting structure is a rigid low-density support as specified insection 7.2.2.2. of standard 1363-1 .

2.9 OPENING AND CLOSING TEST

An opening and closing test prior to the fire test was carried out in accordance with thestipulations of draft standard EN 14600 (November 2002 version).

The number of opening and closing cycles applied to the shutter was 25.

The test was carried out by operating the shutter using the electric drive motor.

2.10 RADIATION:

The radiation emitted during the test by the test element was measured by a cel!positioned at the centre of the test element, 1 metre away fram it.

The recorded radiation emitted by the test element can be seen in Appendix 7 of thisreport.

6 SCOPE OF DIRECT APPLICATION

Page: 15

The scope of direct application of the test element is set out in Appendix 5 of this report.

7 CONCLUSIONS.

7.1. The time for which the two criteria were satisfied simultaneously for the test piecedescribed in section 1., during this exploratory test was 78 minutes for thEsupplementary and normal operating procedures.

7.2. This result is only valid for the assembly described in section 1. of this report. It is novalid in isolation for any single one of the stated components.

7.3. This report sets out the constructional details of the elements tested, the tesconditions and the results achieved for the constructional element described in thi~test report and tested in accordance with the CEN 1363-1 and 1634-1 standarcprocedures.

7.4. Any change, whether it be of dimensions, constructional details, loads, stresses orsecuring conditions, other than those permitted by the application documents for thi~test method, will not be covered by this report.

7.5. Due to the nature of the fire resistance test and the difficulty in quantifying theuncertainty of measurement in fire resistance tests, it is rot possible to provide a

degree of accuracy for the results.
