Dennison's complete labeling service provides the best answer to your labeling problems. When companies decide that pressure-sensitive labels are best for their products, they most often turn to Dennison. Why? Because Dennison provides a complete, eight-point labeling service, from label design assistance to automatic application with System "900" labeling equipment.

The conventional approach to labeling. Any labeling system, regardless of make, must include five elements*. Usually, four of these are designed into a single machine (a labeler) which is supplied as a standard unit with fixed specifications. If you need to modify the specifications, custom work is required at increased cost.

In effect, the machine sets the limits for the labeling operation, rather than having the operation set the requirements for the machine.

Now — a customized system, yet at standard cost. The System "900" concept of pressure-sensitive labeling equipment, combined with a Dennison product handling system or with your existing product handling method enables our engineers to customize systems to meet nearly every conceivable requirement for pressure-sensitive labeling.

*Labeling head, applicator, mounting, product sensor, product handling.

Built to your needs, from basic components. The System "900" concept of automatic labeling includes the five elements*, but each is a separate, self-contained component. Each basic component is furnished in several types as standard (examples shown at right). Dennison engineers select the proper type of each component for your particular needs. When the resulting equipment is combined with a product handling device (yours, or a standard or custom Dennison unit) you have a complete labeling system, tailored to your specific requirements.

Here is how we use the "matched components" method to build a complete System "900" for you ... Based on your requirements for pressure-sensitive labels, production rate, accuracy of label placement, location on product and other pertinent factors, we select the correct type of each basic component. All types of all components are compatible, and thus fit together and operate together as "matched sets" just as if custom-made, yet at far lower cost than custom.

Find out how the Dennison concept can work for you. Detailed information on the various types of System "900" components is given on the following pages. As you see, literally hundreds of different combinations of these components are possible. This is how we can provide assembly of a complete labeling system to meet your specific requirements.

We would be glad to quote on your particular application, including a written guarantee of performance. Only then will you know what the System "900" concept and Dennison's complete labeling service can mean to you in terms of production at a profit.

LABEL APPLICATORS

Actually apply the labels to the product. Different products, pro-duction situations and labels require a variety of applicator techniques. Choice of applicator is the determining factor in meeting specific production and label placement requirements; but all are quickly interchange-able with any of the System -900- labeling heads.

BRUSH 911 Simplest version-label projected into path of moving product, applicator brushes label onto product. Label application rates - in excess of 200/min. under specific conditions, with high accuracy parallel to product flow. Label size range - determined at time of engineering evaluation.

MECHANICAL ROLLER 912 Accurate action - rolls label onto flat surface of moving objects within ±-142 in. Label application rates-up to 200/min. Label size range - 3/4 in. to 6 in. length; up to 6 in. width.

AIR-CYLINDER ROLLER 913 Positive action - for in-motion applications requiring positive initial label tack to product. Label application rates - up to 150 min-imum length/min. Label size range - from 1 in. to 6 in. length; up to 6 in. width. Air supply - normal external source.

AIR-CYLINDER IMPRESSOR 914 Most versatile/accurate - vacuumized unit solves exceptionally precise and difficult label placement problems. Ideal for depressed or hard-to-reach areas. Automatically compensates for product height variations up to 11/2 in. as stnd. Label application rates-up to 125/min. Label size range - from 1/4 in. up in length; 1/4 in. to 6 in. width. Air supply - normal external source.

VACUUM ROLLER 917 Accurate on moving products - positive initial label tack to products moving at high speed at right angle to labeling head. Placement within .010 in. Label application rates-over 200/min. Label size range-from 1 in. to 4 in. length; up to 6 in. width. Air supply - normal external source.

ULTRA HIGH SPEED 918 Class Customs designs and/or modifications of above types, to meet speed require-ments up to 1,200 labels/min.

LABELING HEADS

Their function is to receive the rolls of pressure-sensitive labels and, on demand, auto-matically remove each label from the backing paper and position the label for application to the product. Exclusive balanced-power drive with closed loop tape system minimizes tape breakage.

MEDIUM SPEED 901 Right or left hand version- for wide versatility. Tape Speed - designed to operate at 350-600 in./min.; intermittent motion. Label width capacities - 1/4 in. to 6 in. Electrical requirement - 115V, 60 cy. A.G. HIGH SPEED 902 Right or left hand version - for wide versatility. Tape Speed-in excess of 1200 in./min. (depending on label specifications). Intermittent motion. Label width capacities - 1/4 in. to 5 In. Electrical requirement - 115V. 60 cy. A.C. LABELING-IMPRINTING 903-a Imprints while applying - operates on-line or off-line; high accuracy; right or left hand versions. Tape Speed-to 1,200 in./min., inter-mittent motion. Imprint Speed, Area-to 18,000/hr.; 1 in. x 4 in.; single color; rubber type, plates or logos. Electrical requirement -115V, 60 cy. A.C. FOIL/FILM LABELING IMPRINTER 904 Hot Stamps while applying - designed for foil, film (or paper) labels; high accuracy; right or left hand versions. Tape Speed - 350-600 in./min., inter-mittent motion. Imprint Speed, Area-to 6,000/hr.; 1 1/8 in. x 1 in.; stnd. foil colors; metal type, plates or logos. Electrical requirements - 115V, 60 cy. A.C.

PRODUCT SENSORS

These serve to signal the system electronically to apply the label to the product at exactly the right moment. Several styles are available — all are actuated by the product itself as the product moves into position.

MICRO SENSORS 931, 932, 933 Action - simple "micro" type control sensors used in most applications with moderate speed requirements.

FOOT-OPERATED SENSOR 934 Action - foot-activated switch used when operator-controlled application is desired.

PHOTO-ELECTRIC SENSOR 935 Action - photo-electric control switch for higher speed applications and in cases where "micro" type sensors are not adaptable.

PRODUCT HANDLING EQUIPMENT

The function of product han-dling equipment is to provide controlled movement and fixturing of the product to be labeled. Whether your existing equipment can be used, or Dennison equipment should be used, depends on many factors such as the product itself, the label, the location of the label, the accuracy needed and your production and labor requirements.

The 941-949 class are Automatic (Oper-ator Loaded) Equipment which provide automatic labeling up to 75 per minute with one operator on virtually any prod-uct, any label size and any location with accuracy of up to =0.015 in.

The 951 -959 class of Automatic (In-Line) Equipment provides high speed label-ing of cylinders, ovals, flats, oblongs, squares and angular shaped products, at rates up to 200 per minute. Ideal for wrap-around and multiple label applications.

The 954 unit (shown above) - handles a variety of products or containers (glass, paperboard or plastic) for spot or wrap-around labeling at 50-250/min. All adjustments can be made within 15 minutes and without change-parts.

The 961 -969 class of Automatic (Rotary) Equipment provide high accuracy label placement for on-line or off-line han-dling of small and irregularly shaped products (or those that cannot be handled on in-line class equipment) at rates up to 200 per minute.

The 971-979 class of Automatic (Spe-cial) Equipment are for those special jobs which generally are one of a kind.

Dennison provides a complete line of versatile product han-dling equipment which is mated to the labeling components to provide a complete ready-to-run system. Whatever is needed for profitable labeling of your product is what will be recom-mended by Dennison's System "900" evaluation team. Packaging - Processing
