Listen to or read instructions carefully before attempting to do anything in the lab.
Notify your teacher if something spills.
Always wash hands with soap and water after handling chemicals.
Keep hands away from your face during lab work.
Tie back long hair.
Know the location of the fire extinguisher, fire blanket, eyewash station, and first aid kit.

Never put anything into your mouth during a lab experiment (food, drinks and gum are not permitted in the lab).
Clean up your lab area after finishing with your experiment.

Never “horse around” or play practical jokes in the laboratory.

Wearing Protective Clothing
Depending on the lab you may be required to:
➢ Wear a lab coat➢ Wear goggles➢ Tie long hair back➢ Wear close-toed
shoes➢ Wear gloves➢ Avoid wearing
scarves, ties, or longnecklaces
➢ Avoid contacts
➢ When using knives or other sharp objects always walk with the points facing down.
➢ Cut away from fingers and body.
➢ If you notice sharp or jagged edges on equipment, report it to your teacher
➢Dispose of broken glass as instructed
➢ Read all labels twice before removing a chemical from the container.
➢ Never touch, taste, or smell a chemical unless instructed by the teacher.
➢ Transfer chemicals carefully!
➢Never return chemicals back into the original containers
➢Never have your face directly over the opening of chemicals, waft if necessary

Tie back hair and loose clothes when working with open flames.
Never look into a container as you are heating it and have it pointing away from you & others.
Heated metal and glass looks cool, use tongs or gloves before handling.
Never leave a heat source unattended.

Unplug all equipment before leaving the room.

To operate the fire extinguisher remember P-A-S-S
P- Pull the Pin
A-Aim the hose at the base of the fire from 5-6 feet away.
S-Squeeze the handle.
S-Sweep the hose back and forth across the fire.
