The effects of a visual presentation and spoken

sequence on the number of people with the correct order of numbers out of

10 digits [1 – 0]

Page 2: Lab Report Bio

We wanted to see how many numbers you [the students] would remember out of 10

We compared the results from◦ The poster portion [visual]◦ The listening portion [auditory]

The results showed the poster [visual] results were more accurate

ABSTRACT

Page 3: Lab Report Bio

Visual and auditory processing are both part of short– term memory

We tested human memory, which is part of the human Nervous system

People used to rely more on listening◦ They had better auditory

memories People now rely on visual

helpers, such at TV and computers◦ We use our visual memory more

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

BACKGROUND INFORMATION… [continued]

There are three information processing systems - sensory: ex. smell, taste, touch

- short – term memory: ex. Memorizing a new phone numbers

- long term memory: ex. Memorizing your birth date

Each type of memory has its own part of the brain that is isolated from other parts

- listening information is separated from visual information

If the students use a visual aid to help them memorize a sequence, then they will memorize more numbers out of 10 in correct

sequence rather than using an auditory presentation.

1. We showed the class a poster with 10 numbers for 20 seconds

2. They wrote down what they remembered

3. We read aloud a different order of 10 numbers

4. They wrote down what they remembered

Page 7: Lab Report Bio

Our hypothesis was right The t-score showed that more visual results

were accurate People remember better from visual

presentations than from listening
