AbstractIn this lab report first the bleached cotton fabric was dyed with direct dye. Dyed sample the n treated with cationic reagent and resin individually. Dyed fabric was finished with cationic reagent with three different concentrations. Similarly cross linking agent was applied with three different concentrations to fabric. After this washing of all samples including original dyed specimen was done and their washing fastness was checked and compared.

1 Introduction
1.1. Background:
Direct dyes holds less market share due to its poor washing fastness. Different methods are used to increase fastness propeties upto 1 rating. These methods incldues diazotization, cationic treatmetn, formaldehyde treatment and crosslinkig.
1.2. Objective:
To dye fabric with direct dye Treatment of the dyed fabric with cationic reagent with different concentrations Treatment of the dyed fabric with cross linking agent with different
concentrations1.3. Theory:
Cationic treatmnent tends to increase molecular size of dye particles so results in increase washing fastness. While crosslinking agent crosslinks dye molecules with fibre and themselve as well.

Conditions For dyeing
Direct dye = 2% o.w.f L: R = 1: 50 Salt (NaCl) Alkali (Na2CO3)
For aftertreatment with cationic reagent
Cationic reagent = 5, 10, 20 g/L Exhaust application at 600C for 20-25 min.
.For aftertreatment with cationic reagent
Cross-linking agent = 20, 30, 40 g/L Drying = 1200C for 2 min. Curing = 1500C for 90 sec.
.
3. Procedure
i. Cotton fabric was dyed with direct dye.ii. Fabric was weighed and calculations of chemicals were done according to it.
iii. Then water was heated, in that salt, alkali was added along with dye.iv. After this fabric was introduced to liquor.v. Dying of fabric was done at 900C for 30 min.
vi. Then three solutions of cationic reagent having 5, 10, 20 g/l conc. were prepared.

vii. Each solution of cationic reagent was heated up to 600C then dyed fabric was added in all solution.
viii. After this 25 min. were given to the reaction along with continuous stirring.ix. Then three solutions of cross-linking agent having 20, 30, 40 g/l conc. were prepared.x. Dyed fabric was padded in each solution and drying of each fabric was done followed by
curing at thermo sole.xi. Washing of samples were done and washing fastness was checked for each sample.
xii. Shade or toner change was also observed.
4. Results
Wash Fastness Rating Original sampleWashed
With cationic after treatment With cross linker5 g/l 10 g/l 20 g/l 20 g/l 30 g/l 40 g/l

5. Conclusion It was observed that fabric after treated with cationic and cross-linker had a bit shade
change than the original. In case of cationic after treatment the shade went from yellower region to bluer
region. In case of cross-linker the tone change can be seen in yellowish region. It was analyzed that cationic after treatment showed better improvement in washing
fastness than the after treatment with cross-linker. Original sample that had not been after treated showed least washing fastness.
