Friends, the Gospel at the begin-ning of Lent asks us to do three things: pray, fast, and give alms. Let’s focus today on prayer. Studies show that prayer is a very common, very popular activity. Even those who profess no belief in God pray! What is prayer, and how should we pray? Prayer is intimate communion and conversation with God. Judg-ing from Jesus’ own life, prayer is something that we ought to do often, especially at key moments of our lives. Well, how should we pray? What does it look like? You have to pray with faith, and according to Jesus’ model, you have to pray with forgiveness. The efficacy of prayer seems to depend on the reconciliation of differences. You also have to pray with persistence. One rea-son that we don’t receive what we want through prayer is that we give up too easily. Augustine said that God some-times delays in giving us what we want because he wants our hearts to expand. Finally, we have to pray in Jesus’ name. In doing so we are relying on his influence with the Father, trust-ing that the Father will listen to him.
Welcome to the family of the baptized in Christ!
Lent is a call to “give alms for the poor.” Wher-ever you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of
St.Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

The Heart of Baptism
Something amazing is going on here.
Learn how baptism reveals the heart of God’s love
for His children. A traditional rite, an important symbol, an excuse for a family photo op around a newborn… Baptism means a lot of different things to those who experience it. There is a lot more happening in Baptism than most people realize!
DIVE INTO THE TRUE MEANING OF BAPTISM

Rice Bowls
CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten
program for families and faith communities in the United
States who want to put their faith into action. Through
CRS Rice Bowl, participants are invited to hear stories
about their brothers and sisters in need around the world,
and devote their Lenten prayers, fasting and alms to
change the lives of those who suffer in poverty. Partici-
pants journey through the 40 days of Lent with a collection
of daily reflections and activities, including recipes, that
are included in the CRS Rice Bowl calendar and on the
mobile app.
Good Friday Labyrinth: The Labyrinth is an archetype, a divine imprint, found in all religious traditions in various forms around the world. The labyrinth is not a maze. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. It has a single circuitous path that travels to the center. The path becomes a mirror for where we are in our lives. The per-son walking it uses the same path to return and the entrance then becomes the exit. The path is in full view, which al-lows a person to be quiet and focus internally. Generally, there are three stages to the walk: releasing on the way in, receiving in the center and returning; that is, taking back out into the world that which you have received. There is no right way or wrong way to walk a labyrinth.
Call for Cans:
To build our Holy Friday Labyrinth we require over five thousand items of canned food, cereal, oil (which looks great in candle light), and even tooth paste. During Lent children and youth are welcome to bring food items up during prep-aration. Checks made out to St. Peter may be marked “food.” Funds will be used to purchase cans at a reduced rate: Food for thought, Food for the journey, Food for the world.
A Lenten Gift For You
Breaking through resistance is essential to becoming the-best-version-of-ourselves and living with passion and purpose.
What is resistance? It’s that sluggish feeling of not wanting to do something that you know is good for you. It’s the desire and tendency to delay something you should be doing right now.
It is resistance that stands between you and happiness. You will learn not only what it is, but how to recognize and conquer it in your own life.
A true story about why we sabo-tage ourselves, feel over-
whelmed, set aside our dreams, and lack the courage to simply be ourselves... and how to start
choosing happiness again!

Ministry to the Sick and Home-bound We would like to expand our ministry to those who cannot join us on Sundays. We want parishioners to take Holy Eucharist to them. Ministers to the Sick will be called forward at the end of Mass for a special blessing.
