    STI TCH EXPLANATI ON:

    An increase worked as follows:1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You willhave created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - 1 st increased.

    NOTES:

    1. Body is worked with 2 colors, following Chart.2. Chart is worked in St st (k on RS, p on WS). Follow Charts from right to left on RS rows, from left to

    right on WS rows. Carry color not in use across WS of work.

    BODY

    With A, cast on 72 sts.

    Purl 1 row.Nex t Row ( RS) : Knit, following Row 1 of Chart and repeating 6 sts of this chart 12 times across row.Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS), repeating Rows 1-6 of chart until piece measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from beg.Bind off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Use tail to seam sides.

    LEGS ( m ake 2 )

    With C, cast on 10 sts.

    Purl 1 row.Beg with a RS row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) in the following stripe sequence:Ro w s 1 a n d 2 : C.Ro w s 3 a n d 4 : A.Ro w s 5 a n d 6 : D.Ro w s 7 a n d 8 : B.Rep Rows 1-8 until piece measures about 5 1/2 in. (14 cm) from beg.With E, work in St st for 4 rows.Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last row, pull to gather tightly, and knot to secure. With B,seam sides of Leg, stuffing lightly as you sew.

    Work same as for legs until piece measures 4 in. (10 cm) from beg.Nex t Row : With same color as last row worked, *k2tog; rep from * to end of row - 5 sts at the end of this row.Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last row and pull to gather. Use rem tail to seam sides ofArm, stuffing lightly as you sew.

    EARS ( m ake 2)

    With E, cast on 20 sts.Ro w s 1 - 6 : Knit.Ro w 7 : *K2tog; rep from * to end of row - 10 sts at the end of this row.Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last row, pull to gather tightly, and knot to secure. With E,seam sides of Ear, stuffing lightly as you sew.

    Flatten Body, so that seam is at back. Sew lower edge of Body closed. Stuff Body, then seam top edge. Sew Arms,Legs, and Ears to Body. Sew buttons to Body for eyes. With yarn or embroidery floss, embroider a straight st mouth.Weave in ends.
