Tarjani Vivek Dave’s video ‘Aesthetic and Affordable Customised Orbital Implants: Technology that Bridges the Gaps’ was included in the Top 15 Videos presented at All India Ophthalmological Society’s (AIOC) Platinum Jubilee Conference at Jaipur, 16-17 February. Subhadra Jalali was honoured with the ‘Mother Teresa Award’ for her 18 years of work in prevention of blindness in newborn and premature babies, presented on 25 March 2017 by various women’s empowerment groups. Pediatric Perimeter developed by the Srujana Center for Innovation was the 3 rd prototype (out of 455) selected to be showcased at the ‘Festival of Innovation’, 4-10 March 2017 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi. Clients of the Institute for Vision Rehabilitation: (a) Shravya Kanithi aced her GMAT examination and has secured admission at the Indian School of Business (ISB) for an eighteen month management program, (b) Surbhi Mudgal was the first runner-up at the beauty pageant for visually impaired at Mumbai on 8 March 2017, judged by film personalities John Abraham, Subash Ghai, Javed Ali and others. Since its inception, the institute’s Hyderabad campus has notched up over 23,901 corneal transplant surgeries thus far. e Ramayamma International Eye Bank at the campus harvested 7159 corneas this financial year, and distributed over 3810 corneas across the country. Newborn Eye Health Alliance (NEHA) e Abha Dalmia Newborn Eye Health Alliance (NEHA) was inaugurated at Shri Mithu Tulsi Chanrai campus in Bhubaneswar on 4 March 2017 by Smt Abha Dalmia and Shri M H Dalmia, former President of OCL India Ltd. LVPEI Bhubaneswar is the only Centre in Odisha providing Pediatric retinal imaging, neonatal intensive care facilities, in addition to ROP care, and NEHA will further enhance these capabilities and reach in Odisha. Glaucoma Awareness Week Glaucoma Awareness Week, 12-18 March 2017, included the following string of events across the network: Hyderabad campus: Awareness walk flagged off by Governor Sri ESL Narasimhan, an interactive patient forum, and a scientific conference ‘Glaucoma Demystified’. Bhubaneswar campus: Awareness walk, street play and interactive patient forum. Visakhapatnam campus: Awareness walk flagged off by Sri U B Reddi, Senior Environmental Engineer, AP Pollution Control Board. Vijayawada campus: Awareness walk. Persistent Foundation, represented by Mr Sriharsha, Centre Head and Mr Pullela Raja, Associate Vice President, handed over a cheque to support sight restoration cataract surgeries under the Hyderabad Urban Slums Eye Care Program implemented by the community eye care team.

A workshop for ophthalmic nurses and operation theatre technicians was organized on 26 March 2017 at the Kode Venkatadri Chowdary campus in Vijayawada. It had 55 participants from KVC campus and the eight secondary centres in AP. The workshop is the first of a similar series planned for tertiary and secondary centres in Telangana and Odisha.

A training session was organized on 26 March 2017 at the Hyderabad campus for bio-medical technician staff across the network to train them on the best practises for maintaining the ZEISS instruments used in outpatient clinics.

The first in series of leadership training sessions was organized, 10-11 March 2017, for the staff of optical stores deputed at the four campuses. Additionally, an optical continuous training program was organized, 20-22 March 2017, for the optical stores staff of secondary and vision centres.
