Core research organizations/institutes: doctorate-granting research universities, medical or pharmacy schools; teaching or research hospitals or clinics (with populations of up to 20,000 students); small for-profit independent companies.
Large, regional, networked single organizations: multisite state-wide or very large academic institutions (with populations over 20,000 students); large, regional nonprofit/government research institutes, or government agencies; mid-size for-profit organizations.
