Frank Lee doesn’t just practise martial arts: for his many students and fans, Frank Lee is martial arts — a high-kicking dynamo whose style of full contact fighting has hurtled him up into the very stratosphere of the profession. Frank is happy to play the role he’s cultivated, but there is at least one person who would like to look beneath the superhero mask : his son, Corey. Frank’s status as a legendary street fighter and world-renowned coach have kept him at an emotional (and physical) distance from Corey; but now the younger Lee, in his forties and a father himself, would like to reconnect with his mighty dad. To do this, Corey must enter Frank’s world, a world where fighting rules.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

Corey Lee formed enriquePoe Moving Pictures in 2001 to produce his own films, the first being his debut low-budget feature Defining Edward (2003), which premiered in Toronto at the ReelWorld Film Festival. Corey has also crafted music videos and short films, including his Kilter Trilogy, adapted from the 2003 Giller prize short-listed collection Kilter : 55 Fictions, by John Gould, the animated Armour for a Boy and the experimental drama Awaken. Corey is an instructor of screenwriting, directing and the filmmaking process, at the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. He lives in Calgary with his wife and two children. Legend of a Warrior is his first documentary film.

Frank Lee n’est pas seulement un spécialiste des arts martiaux : pour ses nombreux étudiants et admirateurs, Frank Lee incarne les arts martiaux. C’est une dynamo au coup de pied impressionnant, propulsé dans les plus hautes sphères de la profession par un style de combat plein contact absolument unique. Frank est heureux de jouer le rôle qu’il a cultivé, mais il existe au moins une personne qui aimerait soulever le masque du superhéros : son fils Corey. La légendaire réputation de Frank comme combattant de rue et entraîneur de renommée mondiale a creusé un fossé émotionnel (et physique) entre lui et Corey. Mais aujourd’hui, le jeune Lee, maintenant dans la quarantaine et lui-même père de famille, aimerait renouer avec son célèbre père. Pour cela, Corey doit pénétrer dans l’univers de Frank, un monde où le combat fait loi.

Corey a également réalisé des vidéoclips et des courts métrages, dont la Kilter Trilogy, adaptée de la collection

Kilter : 55 Fictions de John Gould, en lice pour le prix Giller 2003, le film d’animation Armour for a Boy et le drame expérimental Awaken. Corey enseigne la scénarisation, la réalisation et le processus cinématographique à la Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. Il vit à Calgary avec sa femme et ses deux enfants. Legend of a Warrior est son premier documentaire.
