l. Introduction

From February 22 to March 2, 1986, ground magnetometer and

horizontal loop EM (HLEM) survey were completed over a group of

36 claims located in Mann Township of Northern Ontario. This

report details the extent of the work done with an interpretation

of the resulting data.

2. Location of Survey Area

The claim group is located in Mann Township, approximately

29 kilometers south of the town of Cochrane, Ontario, as shown on

Map 1. The property was accessed by ATV.

The 36 claims in this group are: P-832557, P-832558, P-

832559, P-832560, P-832561, P-832562, P-832563, P-832564, P-

ll ""^3. Geology

The general strike of the stratigraphy is east southeast

l with dips being subvertical to the north or south. The

geological environment is composed of mafic volcanics, rhyolite

l gragraental, intercalated ultramafic flows and rhyloite

M fragitiental/breccia.

l 4. Survey Equipment and Specifications

Both surveys were completed over cut grid lines spaced 200

meters apart with station spacing of 25m for HLEM and 12.5m for

mag.

l

M

~

The magnetometer surveys utilized a Geometrics G-816 proton

l precession unit to measure the earth's total magnetic field with

M an accuracy of Int. The base line method was employed for

correction of the diurnal variation of earth's field during the

l survey.

l An Apex Parametrics Maxmin II H.E.M. unit was employed to

g measure the in-phase and quadrature components of the induced

secondary E.M. field at frequencies of 444 Hz and 1777 Hz.

l Measurements were made with an accuracy of 11. A coil spacing of

200 irieters was used on the grids.

lA total of 23.45 line km of magnetometer and 22.25 line km

l of HI EM were completed on the grids.

l

Page 7: l MINING LANDS l - Ontario · 1. introduction l 2. location of Survey Area m 3. Geology 4 . Survey Equipment and Specifications l 5. Data Presentation 6. Discussion of Results l a)

ll 5. Data Presentation

" Total magnetic field data are represented in contoured plan

l map form in Map 3. The datum for this map is 5800 nt. A contour

interval of 200 nt has been employed. Smoothing filters have

J been applied to the data. The in-phase and quadrature components

of the secondary EM field at frequencies of 444 and 1777 Hz are

displayed in Map 4 and 5. These data are shown in profile form

l at a scale of l cm - 10%. Interpreted conductor axes are shown

on Map 5.

l 6. Discussion of Results

l a) Magnetic Data

The area is dominated by an area of high magnetic relief

l over the northern portion of the property. This magnetic high is

probably due to ultramafic rocks. In the southwestern portion of

" the property, a low magnetic relief is noted possibly due to

intermediate volcanics or sediments.

l B) HLEM Data

Three conductors have been defined by the electro-magnetic

survey. The strongest feature is located close to the northern

l

l

l

boundaries of the properties and displays a southerly dip.

The axis of this conductor lies close to the flank of the

area of high magnetic relief.

Page 8: l MINING LANDS l - Ontario · 1. introduction l 2. location of Survey Area m 3. Geology 4 . Survey Equipment and Specifications l 5. Data Presentation 6. Discussion of Results l a)

l lg The second conductor trends in a southeasterly direction

over the southwestern portion of the claim group. This feature

l lacks a direct magnetic association. Both this and the first

conductor display good magnetic conductivity. A third feature

l trends in an east-southeast direction and displays poor

g conductivity.

l 7. Conclusions

l The long strike length of the two stronger conductors and

their lack of magnetic association suggest probable graphite

sources. The third weaker feature may be due to a possible fault

l or shear within the ultramafic unit or due to weakly conductive

sulfides.
