Chinese Economy in DisequilibriumKnown internationally as ‘Mr. Shareholding’ economist, Li Yining has had a transformative im-pact on China’s economic transition, most notably as an early advocate of ownership reform and in his promotion of shareholding theory. Through examining the interrelationship between the government, enterprises and the market, Chinese Economy in Disequilibrium presents an in-depth discussion on the issues of resource allocation, industrial structure, institutional innovation and economic fluctuation in current Chinese economy under the condition of disequilibrium. Being credited as developing the theory of economic disequilibrium, Professor Li distinguishes two types of disequilibrium on the basis of whether or not the majority of firms in the economy are viable profit-makers. In Chinese Economy in Disequi-librium, Professor Li points out that not only has China’s economy been in a state of disequilibrium, but it also has issues with enterprises not being under budget constraint.

Features 7 Professor Li regards this Book as most representative of his academic views on cur-rent Chinese economy. Among all the published works of Professor Li, this Book presents the most in-depth theoretical analysis of economic disequilibrium 7 This Book enriches the existing English literature that examines China’s economic development by providing carefully examined al-ternative perspectives which scholars and students in the West may not be familiar with 7 This Book allows readers to retrace the innovative and bold contributions Professor Li has made to the success of China’s economic transition

The Microeconomic GrowthThis book primarily discusses what could make the economy remain stable and increase the level of coordination, both on the demand and supply side, a fascinating question for economists. In this context, it systematically analyzes the theory of consumption and production growth. Most of the existing economic growth theories fail to analyze consumption growth. That oversight is remedied here, greatly enhancing the usefulness of econom-ic growth theory. Factors influencing consumption and production at the micro scale provide the foundations of the analyzing frame. An economic system with endogenous technological progress can most likely only be rapidly coordinated under market conditions similar to those in a monopoly competition market. Over the course of the work, readers will discover that there is another way of viewing the economic world which is different from regular textbooks.

Features 7 Defines in detail the concepts which are also the basis of microeconomic theories, including labor, quality, utility density, individual rationality and so on 7 On this basis, it sets up a number of analytical tools such as consumer behavior theory, demand function, individual production function, and firm production function 7 These theoretical tools in turn create a foundation for the comprehensive analysis on economic growth

Contents Key Factors of Economic Growth.- Commodity, Utility Density, Quality and Labor.- Consumption and the Growth of Consumption.- Organiza-tion—protection and restriction.- Production Theory- Individuals and Manufacturers.- Analyze of Economic Growth.

The Pre-Kernel as a Tractable Solution for Cooperative GamesAn Exercise in Algorithmic Game Theory

This present book provides an alternative ap-proach to study the pre-kernel solution of trans-ferable utility games based on a generalized con-jugation theory from convex analysis. Although the pre-kernel solution possesses an appealing axiomatic foundation that lets one consider this solution concept as a standard of fairness, the pre-kernel and its related solutions are regarded as obscure and too technically complex to be treated as a real alternative to the Shapley value.

Features 7 Characterizes a fair division rule of game theory by convex analysis 7 Proposes tractable formula to solve fair division problems in real life situations 7 Provides algorithms to imple-ment vectorized and parallel computer programs designed to solve fair division problems

Contents Introduction.- Some Solution Schemes and Game Properties.- The Shapley Value and (Pre-Kernel) as a Fairness Concept.- Fair Division in Cournot Markets.- Some Preliminary Results.- A Pre-Ker-nel Characterization and Orthogonal Projection.- Characterization of the Pre-Kernel by Solution Sets.- Algorithms for Computing the Pre-Kernel.- An Upper Dimension Bound of the Pre-Kernel.- Concluding Remarks.

Elements of Neo-Walrasian EconomicsA Survey

This book aims to explain to the readers the basic idea of the general equilibrium theory, which forms the core of the current mainstream econom-ics called neoclassical school. To understand this theory is absolutely necessary, either to study further or to criticize the contemporary economic theories. The author not only explains traditional theories, but also makes clear the many problems which are still unsolved. As a text book or refer-ence book for those students who are studying microeconomics for the first time, the author rec-ommends the use of Chapter 1, Chapter 2 (except section 9), Chapter 3 (from section 1 to section 3, section 6, section 11), Chapter 4 (from section 1 to section 4), Chapter 5 (from section 1 to section 5, section 8), Chapter 6 (except sections 6 and 7), Chapter 7 (from section 1 to section 5), Chapter 8 (from section 1 to section 6) and Chapter 9 (sec-tions 1, 4 and 7).

Features 7 Based on lectures given by the author to students of the University of Tokyo 7 Develops classical Walrasian economics into theories of modern microeconomics 7 Provides problems and literature for further study

Mathematical Methods in Economics and Social ChoiceIn recent years, the usual optimization techniques, which have proved so useful in microeconomic theory, have been extended to incorporate more powerful topological and differential methods, and these methods have led to new results on the qualitative behavior of general economic and political systems. These developments have necessarily resulted in an increase in the degree of formalism in the publications in the academic journals. This formalism can often deter gradu-ate students. The progression of ideas presented in this book will familiarize the student with the geometric concepts underlying these topologi-cal methods, and, as a result, make mathematical economics, general equilibrium theory, and social choice theory more accessible.

Features 7 Presents an overview of mathematical techniques useful in mathematical economics, general equilibrium theory and social choice theory 7 Indispensable methods for research in quantitative economics 7 With a new chapter on Topology and Social Choice

Contents Sets, Relations and Preferences.- Linear Spaces and Transformations.- Topology and Convex Optimisation.- Differential Calculus and Smooth Optimisation.- Singularity Theory and General Equilibria.- Topology and Social Choice.

Regional Economic Integration in West Africa This book presents a number of key studies pertaining to the most pressing challenges of economic regional integration in West Africa. The issues of monetary coordination, foreign exchange volatility, taxation, savings and macroeconomic convergence are investigated from a regional per-spective.  The characteristics of West Africa’s trade policy are reviewed and assessed in comparison to that of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The extent to which regional integration can tackle the challenge of unemploy-ment is the focus of studies on labour markets. Development of the private sector and coordina-tion of regional cross-border transportation are examined through the lens of economic collabora-tion between Arab and African countries.  The book provides fresh new answers to persistent development questions and sheds new light on long-held views that are either incomplete or no longer true. It also opens new perspectives on the search for sustainable avenues for Africa’s develop-ment.

Features 7 Promotes a better understanding of challenges and proposed solutions for regional integration in West Africa 7 Scientific analysis of latest African economic events and evolutions 7 Collects contributions from African researchers on analysis of African economies

Sourcing sophisticatesA method of how to evaluate the economic success of sourcing under consideration of the potentials and risks in an international context

Globalization leads to increased fierce competition and companies which do not pursue successful global sourcing within the next five years are prob-ably not able to survive. However, global sourcing projects are highly complex and two-thirds of all sourcing projects in Europe are considered to have failed. A tool of ten steps is elaborated to show how to evaluate the success of sourcing by consid-ering the potentials and risks in an international context. Successful managing of international sourcing, however, does not only imply the pri-mary goal to acquire parts cheaply abroad, but it can be seen as a kind of strategic weapon to create a strong market position and to keep the company successful on the long term.

Feature 7 Publication in the field of economic sciences

The Euro and International Financial StabilityAs a result of the financial crisis, the weaknesses of the Eurozone, including the public debt crisis, materialized in severe depressions in certain of its country members. In this monograph, the author analyzes structural weaknesses of the Eurozone and argues that they can be traced to (i) institu-tional differences, (ii) differences in the economic structures, (iii) the fundamental inability of European Bureaucracy to deal with crises, and (iv) the extreme rigidity of markets which prevents a general equilibrium in product and credit markets. He concludes that whether the Eurozone is sustainable, depends on future monetary and credit policies, and discusses the implications of reforming it in the best interest of the interna-tional banking and financial system. The recent policies of the ECB of “cheap” credit expansion are examined in detail. The approach of the work is along the lines of von Mises’ and Hayek’s Austrian tradition; additionally, substantive international empirical evidence supporting this Austrian ap-proach is presented.

Features 7 Analysis of international financial stability in the context of Austrian economics 7 Exam-ines the future of the Euro and the European Union 7 Introduction to the Austrian econo-mists’ way of thinking (Hayek and von Mises)

Advanced Disassembly PlanningFlexible, Price‑Quantity Dependent, and Multi‑Period Planning Approaches

Disassembly is one of the key elements of any processing of recovered products. Be it for repair, remanufacturing, refurbishing, cannibalisation, material recycling, or disposal. Hence, planning the disassembly is important and—with grow-ing amounts of recovered products and need for saving resources—becomes even more important. The disassembly planning approaches presented are based on mathematical programming. With this methodology, a profit-optimal planning of quantities of multiple types of recovered products as well as parts distribution, material recycling, and disposal quantities is realised. Thereby, typical aspects, like material purity requirements, the con-dition of the recovered products, hazardous parts, and capacity limitations, are also considered. A new approach is the presented combination of disassembly-to-order planning and disassembly sequencing, which is called Flexible Disassembly Planning.

Dynamic Governance of Energy Technology ChangeSocio‑technical transitions towards Sustainability

Formulating effective responses to the global chal-lenges of mitigating climate change and securing a sustainable energy future requires a clear under-standing of the interdependent causalities between institutions, local decision making, strategic alliances and eco-innovations, as well as policies. It has been acknowledged that the linear “Manhat-tan project” model is not an adequate governance model for mastering the dynamic complexity of socio-technical transitions; therefore this book aims at advancing research on systematic transi-tion management models.

Features 7 The book assists policy makers in long term policy making and helps them to overcome policy resistance 7 It informs entrepreneurial decision makers of promising technology substitution path-ways for meeting policy targets on time 7 The book reflects on analytical methods of transition mapping and modeling that help to advance the expertise of researchers in the field
