With less than a month before I leave for Korea, I have no words for my enthusiasm andexcitement. When I first heard of the summer program, I was thrilled. This year there are two
groups going to two different universities, namely Kyung Hee University and Dankook
University. In our group, there are 10 people and we are going to Kyung Hee University.
Prior to departure, there was a dinner organized to help
us to know each other and bond. We also took this
opportunity to plan our travel itinerary on where to go
and what to do once we landed in Korea. There are justso many things to do before we go, for example a few of
us are planning to stay back for about one week after the
program, so we are planning where to go and to travel
around Korea during this time. There are issues like what
we are going to do there, how we¶re going to contact
each other while we are there (as most of us will be
inaccessible by phone), where and how much money we
need to bring there so that we have adequate money to
spend. Although we are divided into small groups for our
extended stay in Korea, nevertheless, information was
exchanged between us as some of us in the group have
done a whole load of background research on most of the
tourist attractions and accommodation for the remaining
week that we plan to stay.

There are five more days left before I leave for Seoul,
Korea, where I will be spending my summer doing the
student exchange program at Kyung Hee University. I am
getting more excited for this program now. My friends and Iare busy preparing for this trip; we have packed our luggage,
bought personal care products, learned to recognize the
Korean won and also some basic Korean words. We have
also planned trips to Busan and Jeju Island. I am ready for an
adventure that will change my life. Staying in another
country will be a real eye-opener and I am looking forward
to explore and experience it.

I perceive the Global Collaborative Summer Program as a
quantum leap from the completion of my degree. Despite both
being awesome universities, I believe the participation in Kyung
Hee University could broaden my horizons and increase the
international exposure. I would like to capitalize on this
opportunity to take the subjects of Korean Language and Today
& Tomorrow: The Big Transnational Trends Affecting Global
Society in the 21 st Century and later use the knowledge and
experience gained to benefit my future career and society in
general. More importantly, the interaction with people from
diverse backgrounds would enable more in-depth understanding
of the versatility of culture and demographics. Being highly-
motivated and excited, I look forward to gaining some
wonderful experiences! All the best to all the participants and
let¶s enjoy to the max!

Seventy-two hours to go and I¶ll be in Korea. Time sure flies
fast. I can't wait to go to Korea as this will be my first time
overseas for a long period of time. I'm feeling happy, fortunate
and excited that I got chosen to go for this exchange program.
Not only that, this would be a great experience for me to meet
new people and learn a different culture and language. I also
can¶t wait to meet my Korean friends in Kyung Hee University
whom I met back in January this year when they came here for
the Intensive English Program in HELP. Hopefully, everything
will go smoothly and I hope I would be able to speak Korean
more fluently when this program ends.

As it¶s my first time going out of Malaysia alone, I am excited
and yet anxious at the same time as I am not sure what lies ahead.
Furthermore, I can¶t speak or understand Korean and yet I¶ll have
to learn how to survive on my own for a whole month in a country
that hardly speaks English. I knew from the start that I¶d miss my
family and home (especially my cats), but this is one of the
sacrifices I have to make. I regard this trip as a life changing and
personal growth experience as I will be interacting with people
from other countries, and learning to communicate with them will
definitely make me a better person and what I will be gaining is
much more than dealing with a little homesickness. I have faith
that it¶s going to be an exciting journey ahead and I can¶t wait for
my final exams to end and to start packing for Korea!

This is the second time that I am going to Kyung Hee
University and I am even more nervous and excited than the
last time. A chance to renew old acquaintances and new
friends and meet my old professors again is one I could notlet go of. I have also been selected for an internship in Seoul
and I hope to learn how to do things with a different
perspective. A chance to meet and interact with people from
different cultures is always a life enriching experience. I
really look forward to going there and work, study and party
hard.

I feel proud to represent HELP by participating in the
exchange program to Korea. This will give me a chance to
learn to be independent as well as learn about cultures not
only from Korea but also from students around the world. I
hope to come back to Malaysia with all the experiences and
cultures and share them with my friend here. In addition, I
hope that I will be able to speak some Korean when I come
back. Moreover, I am looking forward to have a real university
life where you can stay in a dorm and participate in activities
during the weekends to strengthen the bond between
participants. I will try my best to learn as much as possible in
Korea.
