Namaste. Ayuboman. Nomoshkar.
The long awaited moment has arrived!
You now have the opportunity to be a
part of the excitement that is the ICC
Cricket World Cup 2011.
This time, our flagship event is being
hosted by three nations where cricket is
more than just a game. It is religion. And a
national passion. The International
Cricket Council is proud to host the event
in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011
and is pleased to commence Phase I of
the ticket sales almost nine months prior
to the Opening Ceremony.
This opportunity which presents itself
only once every four years is now up for
grabs with the launch of online ticket
sales. This handbook is designed to make
the buying process easy and informative
for you. We have outlined the key details
you will need, to decide where and how
you want to witness history in the
making.
While all of us are working hard to make
this great event the greatest ever, it can
only become one with the support of you,
the fans.
Hope you enjoy every moment of it!

WELCOME
On behalf of the Central Organizing Committee of ICC Cricket World Cup-2011, it is my
pleasure to invite you to come and watch LIVE cricket action in the sub-continent during
the Cricket World Cup-2011 to be jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The Cricket World Cup is undoubtedly the biggest cricket event played every four years
which brings the best out of he competing teams. The warmth and hospitality in the sub-continent with wide range of tourist destinations
in the three host countries combined with the cricket fever is something that the fans will
enjoy. Please do come in large numbers to watch and support your teams in action. The
tickets are affordable.
In order to make it easy for the spectators to buy tickets well in advance, we are launching
the online sale of tickets for the event on June 1, 2010.
Dear Cricket Loving Fans,
There is nothing like being at the place of action – where the excitement is palpable, the crowds real and watching your favorite team win, unforgettable. And come February 2011, the center of cricketing action will shift to the thirteen venues in the subcontinent that are hosting the various matches. So, what do you have to do to ensure that you are in and not out? Well, it is rather simple really: read this handbook and then go online and buy! Tickets will be sold in two major phases.
BE IN,NOT OUT!
Phase I: Online sales
You can pick individual match/matches of your choice, or go all out and support your favorite team by purchasing tickets to all your team’s matches. Or you can choose to be a proud inhabitant of your city by attending all the matches being hosted there. And should you prefer to be a great host, then you can support all matches being played by the guest nations. Read on to see how this works.
Phase II: Local Sales
This will commence a few weeks prior to the start of the event. Tickets will be available through select retail outlets, call centers and venue box offices.
Select Your Match
Follow Your Team
You can independently select any match/es of your choice from the entire list of matches. You can buy tickets to one match or multiple matches in one go.
A die hard supporter of your team? Then this is the perfect package for you. Buying this will entitle you to watch all group matches being played by a particular country.
Love Your City
Are you a proud inhabitant of one of the thirteen cities hosting the matches? Well, here is your chance to showcase to the world what a great city yours is. Just buy tickets to all the matches in your city with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Be a Great Host (Atithi Devo Bhava)
The subcontinent is well known for its hospitality around the world. So, prove it by buying tickets to all the guest country matches with a few easy clicks. Cheer them on and make them feel at home!
www.iccevents.yahoo.com
Not sure how many matches you want to attend? Well, you have the flexibility of selecting one or multiple matches by browsing through the entire list of matches. Prices vary by match venue.

Winners of the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy for a record four times, in 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007, Australia will be hoping to better its own achievement by winning the 2011 trophy. It holds a tournament record 29 consecutive World Cup matches without a loss, a streak dating back to 23 May 1999, where it lost to Pakistan during the group stage of the event. Australia begins its campaign against Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad and the team will rely on the successful captaincy of Ricky Ponting for a fifth title. With a strong line-up of players including Mike Hussey, Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson, it will be one of the favourites to win the title.

Pakistan made history when it won its first ICC Cricket World Cup title in 1992. Playing in his final ODI, skipper Imran Khan led his team to an unforgettable 22-run victory over England to claim the trophy. Since then, the closest the team has come to winning the trophy was in 1999, when it suffered an eight-wicket loss to Australia at Lord's in the final. All eyes will be on Shahid Afridi, who was instrumental in the team's WT20 win, as well as the Akmal brothers , Kamran and Ukmal , and Umar Gul when it takes on Kenya in its opening game.

No team will be more desperate to win the ICC Cricket World Cup title than New Zealand, who despite reaching the semi-finals of the 1975, 1979, 1992, 1999 and the 2007 event, have never won the tournament. The last World Cup saw Sri Lanka thrash the Kiwis by 81 runs in the semis and Daniel Vettori's men will be hoping to lift the curse with a tournament win in 2011. Key players expected to shine in the tournament include Vettori, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum, and Kyle Mills.

Canada qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 after finishing as runners-up to Ireland at the ICC CWC Qualifier 2009 in South Africa. It first featured in the tournament in 1979 and its greatest moment of glory came in 2003 when it beat Full Member Bangladesh by 60 runs in South Africa. John Davison also broke the record in that tournament for the fastest century in CWC history. The side will depend on Rizwan Cheema, Umar Bhatti, wicket-keeper Ashish Bagai and all-rounder Sunil Dhaniram for a good show in the event.

Sri Lanka's moment of glory in the ICC Cricket World Cup arrived in 1996, when the team, led by Arjuna Ranatunga, defeated Australia by seven wickets to claim its first CWC title. In a repeat of the 1996 event, Mahela Jayawardena led the team to the CWC 2007 final in Barbados, but was defeated by the Australians by 53 runs (D/L method). With plenty of talent in the squad, which includes the likes of Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakeratne Dilshan, Nuwan Kulasekara and the spin attack of Muttiah Muralidaran and Ajantha Mendis, the team has every opportunity to reclaim the trophy once again at home.

Zimbabwe is known to create upsets in the ICC Cricket World Cup as it did against Australia in 1983, England in 1992, and India and South Africa in 1999. In the ICC World Twenty20 2007, it also delivered one of the biggest shocks in the competition when it achieved a stunning victory over Australia. Some from that WT20 side still remain and the likes of Tatenda Taibu and Charles Coventry will be relied upon for runs, while Ray Price has established himself as an excellent bowler.

Kenya shocked the cricketing world with its fairytale run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 event, reaching the semi-finals by victories over Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and New Zealand (match forfeited). The sub-continent also holds special memories for the African nation when it famously defeated West Indies by 73 runs in the ICC CWC 1996 event. Kenya is capable of staging a few upsets and will rely mainly on the experience of Steve Tikolo, batting skills of Alex Obanda and Collins Obuya, and bowling of Hiren Varaiya, Peter Ongondo and Lameck Ngoche.

Cricket fever in India exploded after it won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1983, when 'Kapil's Devils' convincingly defeated the previously invincible West Indies by 43 runs in the final at Lord's. It is the only time that India has won the event to date, but it did finish as runners-up at the 2003 event. Under the able captaincy of MS Dhoni, who led the side to victory in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, the number-one ranked Test team in the world could very well lay its claim on the 2011 trophy. The team boasts of a strong batting line-up including maestro Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, while bowlers Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan will be relied upon for wickets.

Once considered to be invincible in the game, West Indies will be looking to history for inspiration if it has to win the 2011 event. Winners of the first two CWC events in 1975 and 1979 at Lord's, the West Indies have much work to do if they want to emulate those two great sides. Led by the swash-buckling Chris Gayle, who can rip apart the best bowling attack, the team has several key players including Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo who have the potential to capture the trophy.

England has never won the ICC Cricket World Cup, finishing as the runners-up in 1979, 1987 and 1992. It has not made the semi-finals of the event, since that tournament in 1992, and suffered a disappointing event in 2007, losing four of its seven games in the Super Eight stage. The batting unit is looking stronger than in recent years with Paul Collingwood, Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan, while the likes of James Anderson and Graeme Swann will be relied upon for wickets.

Having won an ICC event only once - the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998 - Graeme Smith's men will be hoping to improve on its record when it takes on West Indies in its opening game. The Proteas' success in the tournament extended only as far as the semi-finals of the 2007 event where it was out-witted by Australia by seven wickets at St. Lucia. The team is not short of talent with the likes of AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla, and Herschelle Gibbs, who famously hit six sixes in an over at the last World Cup against Netherlands, relishing the challenge to lift South Africa to world glory.

Bangladesh is one of the hosts of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. It made its CWC debut in 1999 when it surprisingly defeated Pakistan by 62 runs in England. Arguably the greatest moment in its cricketing history came when it defeated India at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and Shakib Al Hasan's men will be looking for more scalps in 2011. The side will depend on the all-round skills of Hasan and fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza, while batsman Tamim Iqbal is expected to be one of the most exciting batsmen at the event.

Ireland cemented its place as the top Associate team in the world with a nine-wicket win over Canada in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in South Africa in April 2009. It will be looking to repeat its heroics of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, when it managed to defeat Pakistan and Bangladesh. Many from the CWC 2007 squad, including William Porterfield, who scored 515 runs in the qualifying event, Trent Johnston, Boyd Rankin and Niall O'Brien still remain, and it will be looking to secure a Quarter-Final place.

Not new to the tournament - the Dutch have earlier featured in the 1996, 2003 and 2007 CWCs - Peter Borren's side will be look forward to creating an upset similar to its inspirational four-wicket victory over hosts England in ICC World Twenty20 2009. Stars to watch out for include Ryan ten Doeschate, Bas Zuiderent, Alexei Kervezee and Edgar Schiferli, who was the leading wicket taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in 2009.

The Garden City, as it is called, has a well deserved reputation for the green spaces it advertises; coupled with the youthful energy and disposable income of the 'ITocracy' makes it a very popular destination for cricket matches, both domestic and international.
The floodlight capable M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a capacity of 38,400 is located in downtown Bengaluru and is walking distance from most pubs, restaurants, parks, malls and 5-Star Hotels. Accessibility from the two main railway stations that service the city is also good. The stadium was first used for First-class matches during the 1972-73 season and later earned Test status when it staged the first Test of the 1974 series between India and the West Indies (Nov 22 to 27). The West Indies greats Sir Vivian Richards and Gordon Greenidge made their debut in this Test. Since 1974 it has been a regular Test and One Day International venue.

India's Southern Metropolis is also her most humble city. Chennai is a city that is far friendlier than most cities its size – in fact it is so modest that a visitor is hardly likely to notice that it is actually an economic powerhouse and has a buzzing showbiz industry!
Chennai houses the MA Chidambram stadium, which was established in 1916 and has a capacity of approximately 40,000 spectators. The stadium is undergoing a major upgradation to add a number of features and make it World Cup ready! The ground has seen some memorable moments in world cricket – Virender Sehwag's 319 against South Africa, Saaed Anwar's 194 against India and Narendra Hirwani's spectacular bowling figures of 16/136. It is getting ready for a lot more this World Cup!

The Eden Gardens ground is the oldest in India (established in 1864), and has hosted first class cricket since 1917. Host to the 1987 World Cup final, the stadium became floodlight capable in 1993 and is likely to hold 82,000 of the world's most cricket crazy spectators after renovations in preparation for the 2011 World Cup. Measure out: one part Hollywood, six parts traffic, a bunch of rich power-moguls, stir in half a dozen colonial relics (use big ones), add some swish bars (don't skimp on quality here for best results), equal parts of mayhem and order, ancient bazaars, a handful of Hinduism, a dash of Islam, fold in your mixture with equal parts, throw it all in a blender on high and presto: Mumbai. India's Maximum City, her city of dreams. Mumbai houses one of India's most loved stadia – the Wankhede. Established in 1974, with a capacity of 40,000 people, the Wankhede has seen some of the most memorable matches and individual performances in the history of the game. Innings like Sunil Gavaskar's 205 and Kallicharran's 187 in the same game against the West Indies (1978-79), Vinod Kambli's 224 against England in 1992-93 and Ravi Shastri's six sixes in an over in a first class match en route his double hundred in 1984-85 have all immortalized this ground. Nagpur, India's geographical center and orange-growing capital is a clean and affluent city, which provides for easy access to some of India's famous tiger sanctuaries. Like the rest of India, the people here also consider cricket a religion, and as should be expected, Nagpur is home to a modern cricket ground.
The Jamtha stadium, established as recently as 2008, is located about 16 km from the city of Nagpur, in the village of Jamtha. With floodlight capability and a capacity of almost 45,000 spectators, the stadium has, in a short time, hosted cricket matches of all forms of the game. The national capital of the country considered a leader amongst the developing
world lives upto the expectations one would have from it. This vibrant city, home to
India's parliament also houses some of her finest architectural structures,
showcasing the history that it has seen over several centuries of existence. New Delhi
is best known within India, not without reason, for its culinary delights. While here,
experiencing the street food is a must.
New Delhi's favourite cricket ground, the Feroz Shah Kotla, is one of India's oldest.
Established in 1883, it hosted its first test match in 1948 when India took on the West
Indies. Having never looked back since then, the ground has hosted some great
matches and has borne witness to a number of memorable moments for world
cricket. The most memorable of which would have to be Anil Kumble's feat of bagging
ten wickets in a test match innings in 1999, something only one other person in world
cricket (Jim Laker, 1956) had been able to do before that.

Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital, biggest city and major port, draws together all the colours and cultures that make up this island nation, condenses them into a patchwork of markets, gardens and buildings, both humble and grand, and knocks them against a narrow slab of beachfront. There's colonial heritage, fine dining, and plenty of shopping opportunities in the city. As a major cricket playing nation of the sub-continent, Sri Lankans are passionate about the sport.
Colombo's R Premadasa stadium is a floodlight capable, 28,000-seater location for cricketing extravaganzas. Opened in 1986 with a match between the Sri Lanka (B) and England (B) teams, the stadium is the biggest in Sri Lanka. It is best remembered as the venue where Sri Lanka posted the highest total in world cricket – 952/6 declared, against India in 1997-98. The mammoth total was achieved on the back of plenty of broken records and great moments for the spectators!

vKandy is sometimes referred to as the only other 'city' in Sri Lanka, other than Colombo. The easy-going capital of the Hill Country has a lot to offer – history, culture, forested hills and a touch of urban buzz. Only 115Km inland from the capital, climatically it is a world away due to its 500m altitude. Kandy served as the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom, which fell to the British in 1815 after defying the Portuguese and Dutch for three centuries.
The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy is a fairly recent establishment, having been set up in 2009 with a capacity of 26,000 fans in preparation for the World Cup 2011. The stadium is scheduled to commence its World Cup activity with a high profile clash between New Zealand and Pakistan on March 8, 2011.

The Suriyawewa International Cricket Stadium is being constructed about 8Km from the city, and is scheduled to be completed by October 2010, in preparation for the World Cup. The stadium is being equipped with floodlights, and will see World Cup action when Sri Lanka takes on Canada on February 20, 2011.

Dhaka is more than a city – it is a giant whirlpool that sucks in anyone who ventures close to it. The unique thread that holds the city together is visible in the cauldron that it is – of art, intellect, passion, love, hate…it is an urban melting pot that's bubbling over.
Dhaka inherits Bangladesh's and on a larger scale, the subcontinent's passion for cricket. And although the Bangladesh cricket team has started achieving heights recently, it hasn't stopped millions of Bangladeshis from following the sport with fervour. Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium was built in 2006 and can hold 27,000 spectators. Located around 10Km from Dhaka, the stadium is touted to have the best drainage facility of any stadium in the subcontinent.

vChittagong, Bangladesh's second largest city, is also the country's biggest port. The super ships lined up at the docks bring with them much more than goods – they bring philosophies, ideas and fashions from around the world. This cosmopolitan exchange of minds is perhaps why Chittagong presents a fascinatingly different side of Bangladesh.
Clearly, watching a match in Chittagong has to be an experience like none other. The Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, situated about a half hour outside the city centre, was one of five purpose-built cricket grounds established in the run up to the 2004 U-19 World Cup. After being granted full international status in 2006, the stadium, with a capacity of 16,000 people, has hosted a number of international matches, including those where the home team has taken on Sri Lanka.
