Specialist South African vibrating equipment manufacturer and supplierJoest Kwatani continues to demonstrate its capacity to provide turnkeyscreening solutions to the mining sector. A recent contract saw thecompany providing design, engineering, fabrication and delivery of a rangeof vibrating screens and feeders to a manganese mine in the NorthernCape.
“Our equipment is designed specifically to perform in heavy dutyapplications such as the manganese sector, where in this instance the feedrate is 900 tph,” Kim Schoepflin, managing director of Joest Kwatani, says.
“In this recent contract we adopted our ‘engineered excellence’ approachto meet specific customer specifications. None of the equipment wesupplied was offtheshelf, as the requirement was for bespoke, customdesigned elements specifically for the project. Our involvement extendedto assisting the EPCM contractor with the underpan, feed and dischargechute designs whereby we used their layouts to accommodate our screensand to indicate any interference points, in addition to providing our inputinto good operating procedure,” Schoepflin says.
Joest Kwatani’s scope of work necessitated additional infrastructure tosupport future requirements. The company’s cope of equipment supplycomprises a sizing screen, a secondary screen, a large tertiary screen, atertiary screen counterbalance sub frame and four silo withdrawalfeeders.
Schoepflin explains that the tertiary screen is one of the largest of its kindsupplied into this type of application. “It will be supplied complete with acounterbalance frame, which isolates the structure from the dynamic andstatic loading forces imparted by the vibrating screen. This allows us todesign vibrating equipment that is more efficient and offers the customer alonger lifespan.”
The Joest Kwatani screens were customised to match the exactingmetallurgical requirements of the client’s processes and the associatedmechanical duty. “An interesting fact about this custom designed tertiaryscreen is that it has a fine cut size of high open area 0.63 mm in panels, and affords the customer the necessary efficiency and capacityrequirements,” Schoepflin says.
Following delivery, Joest Kwatani would be on hand to assist withinstallation through to cold and hot commissioning. In addition, JoestKwatani has a dedicated team comprising a branch manager, projectengineer, safety officer and a number of service and maintenancepersonnel based at its Kathu branch office in the Northern Cape, withcomplete office, warehouse and spares stockholding facilities. JoestKwatani also supplies vibrating equipment to various manganese and ironore operations in the area, and as a result has established a solid trackrecord in the Northern Cape.
