This reflective piece I intended it to be an essay,it slowly morphed into a conversation and then a third persons critique of my blog later it seemed like another big blog entry.

So here’s me putting together some thoughts on my thoughts.

Random musings and inspirations and mainly a blog for blog’s sake is how I had intended to keep my blog. Slowly yet steadily my blog became an extension of me, a look at my blog at any given time would and could tell u my mood and what I was thinking (it even counteracts the absence of posts for nearly 2months! I really have an explanation )

It became a place where I could literally dump my thoughts good, bad and the exciting (ahem...ahem...)

The blog is me, Every Angle Every Word.

Pixe l Man

‘Our eyes don’t see in pixels, so the pixel man came as a surpriseI particularly liked the play of light and the colorful silhouette

Page 5: KV Divya Rani-PPD blog reflective essay

The very first piece “Pixel Man” was a deliberate attempt to start the blog and I realized I’d put in visuals that inspired me and also document why I liked that particular picture.

It was quiet difficult to pen something every week and worse still wanting people to read your views on everything! Who cares? I thought till I accumulated a small bunch of followers (It’s a really a tiny group the present figure stands at 9!)

In the month of November I traveled around London our workshops made sure we did and that’s when I realized I had an inclination for everything Typo.Paul’s workshop on collecting typography in and around London, started as an exercise to post “just another entry” became an obsession. You can still see me clicking away on random type , signboards , discarded signage I’m obsessed!

Our VCT Term1 submission: to analyze and write a critique on a graphic design piece in the recent past helped me in the discovery of two artists Noma Bar and Tavis Colburn both amazing graphic designers /illustrators.

Following their works and studying their design gave me an in-depth understanding of the various aspects that are involved in designing a piece.

What was more important was that I learnt to write a critique and in the process learn what are the variables I need to concentrate on for my work to have a larger impact.

Another exercise that I’m glad I took active interest was

in finding places where I would like to be placed. Being

an international student and new to the “art world”

as it were I was frankly appalled by the work in the

industry and amazed at what ad agencies in London and

Bangalore did.

We had to choose 5 places where we would have liked to work and I realised I was more biased towards companies that were biased towards typography and branding.

LCC through our eyes for theirs

Is worth the mention for two reasons one we got to explore our college two I got to know more people from my course and realised all of us were queer in our own weird way.

“ With ancient letterpresses, Stefano’s antics, mad rush to come up with a plot and a story line for the prospective students (which by the way was our task: LCC through our eyes for theirs!) and parched tongue (Don’t ask!) we created a map of LCC using iconography

This entry always brings a smile to my face whenever I read it

I realize now that having so many thoughts running through your mind it always helps to put them into words and read them months later (like now!) you go “Ahhhhh I see now....”

I realized I wrote another self reflective piece in December when our first term came to end and I was genuinely

sad term had ended.

I get depressed I realize when things come to an end.

The New Year came with new briefs and new blog entries

I’v started this new year with weird mixed feelings ranging from excitement to pure blankness.

Page 25: KV Divya Rani-PPD blog reflective essay

And some new resolutions

Hoping to make up for lost time in the library this year.

The greatest part of attending college was actually to do stuff and the most exciting pieces in my blog seem to be that .The over use of exclamations ( !!! and smiley clearly ) .

John Maeda-Interactive calendars

This particular entry is interesting cause I felt like I found a comrade an engineer who decided to study art and design just like me.

His work involves using mathematical formulae and likes to code complex Java applets to achieve optical illusions and (in his own words) “of no particular practical use” calendars

THE BRAND YOU PROJECT

This was quiet the turning point in my art school experience. For one I got a 85% for my project which I hope my tutors won’t reduce!

Looking back to it now I realize that I had spent all my living hours in the library.

And behold a brand new project!

I realized that in a class of 100, 5 of them would work irrespective of the pressure 15 of them would not work irrespective of the pressure. The rest 80 need to be pushed in the form of submissions and reflective posts.

But then again these are the kind that cook best under pressure and I’m hoping to make my transition to join the 5% of the crowd.
