G'day again folks and welcome to the weekly. The rain seems to havecome and boy hasn't it come to the party with gusto. At this rate itlooks like its going to be a very, very wet season indeed. I think its not

before time and can only hope that the bits of Bali that need it the mostget as much of it as possible. As I said in an earlier editorial the otherside of the island is really dry and living there for the locals must behard with so little water. The next three or four months will hopefullywork out the shortage and life will go on as usual. The schoolies are

all about exhausted now and heading back home to start on a working life. There are so many stories to tellabout the youngies hitting the island that I don't care to share with you nor do I intend to make any of thesefoolish ones feel special due to a writeup about their e scapades. Abusing locals, throwing glass bottles in the

pool, disrespecting hotel managers etc etc Its no wonder the media back home have such a field day for thefew weeks that these School leavers spend in Bali.

It seems the week has brought us that little bit closer to the beloved Christmas day where we all get into a dayof celebrations, food and a few drinkies. The locals see the symbolism of a short fat man in a red suit with agreat long white beard and must think we are all craz y. I did hear one new comer to Bali from Java who hadn'tseen a lot of the Christmas decorations and things ask a staff member if Father Christmas had a tattoo. Iintervened and asked why he thought old Chis Cringle would have a tattoo and he said he has a bea rd so himmaybe like tattoo The corolation is realy strange but I guess we all have strange thoughts sometimes. Thesubject of Christmas reminds me of the great work the Jail house Rock crew do each year at hotel K and I trustthat most of our loyal readers or travellers to the island that have the ability to give, actually do that.

There are quite a few businesses that have thrown a few bucks at this years effort and we thank you for doingso. I know that the people that are in there, are in there for a reason, and that for some of you that feel the needto get up on your high horse with the old chestnut They deserve everything they get I trust that you find aquiet place on your own, and take a few minutes to find a human heart in your chest and support a few peoplethat took a wrong turn at a junction and will eventually pay with their life. We all make mistakes and generallydon't keep making the same one twice.

Ok folks on a final note this week we saw the tragic passing of an Aussie cricket legend named Phillip Hughs.A well respected bloke and a damn great cricket player. It seems the entire country has come out in support forthe family and he will be remembered as a truly gre at Aussie who was taken to soon, completely by accident. Itseems a freak ball hit the young fellow in the neck by a bouncer, even though he was wearing a helmet, so asthey say in the classics, when your times up, your times up. From everyone at the Kuta Weekly we offer thefamily our deepest sympathy for there loss and hope they get through this as best possible.

Ok folks there we go again with another week

under the belt. The days just keep on zooming byand we all keep on getting older and older andolder. I trust that the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always try your very best toremember, Never dance in a puddle whenthere's a hole in your shoe (it's always best to takeyour shoes off first).

    Enjoy your weekALIASJ

    You'l l Never Look At A Banana The Same Way AgainB an an as co n t a i n t h r eenatural sugars, sucrose,f r u c t o s e a n d g l u c o s ecombined wi th f iber. Abanana gives an instant,sustained and substantialb o o s t o f e n e r g y .

Research has proven that just two banan as provide eno ughenergy for a strenuous 90-minuteworkout. No wonder the banana isthe number one fruit with theworld's leading athletes. Butenergy isn't the only way a bananacan help us keep fit. It can alsohelp overcome or prevent asubstantial number of illnessesand conditions, making it a must toadd to our daily diet.DEPRESSION

Accor ding to a rece ntsurvey undertaken by MINDamongst people suffering fromdepression, many felt much betterafter eating a banana. This isbe c a use ba na na s c on t a i ntryptophan, a type of protein thatthe body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improveyour mood and generally makeyou feel happier.PMS:

Forget the pills eat abanana. The vitamin B6 it containsregulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

    ANEMIAHigh in iron, bananas can

stimulate the production ofhemoglobin in the blood and sohelps in cases of anemia.BLOOD PRESSURE:

This unique tropical fruit isextremely high in potassium yetlow in salt, making it perfect to beatblood pressure So much so, theUS Food and Drug Administrationhas just allowed the bananaindustry to make official claims forthe fruit's ability to reduce the riskof blood pressure and stroke.BRAIN POWER

    200 students at a

Twickenham school (England ) were helped throughtheir exams this year by eatingbananas at breakfast, break, andlunch in a bid to boost their brainpower. Research has shown thatthe potassium-packed fruit canassist learning by making pupilsmore alert.CONSTIPATION

High in fiber, includingbananas in the diet can helprestore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problemwithout resorting to laxatives.

    HEARTBURNBananas have a natural

antacid effect in the body, so if yousuffer from heartburn, try eating abanana for soothing relief.MORNING SICKNESS

Snacking on bananasbetween meals helps to keepblood sugar levels up and avoidmorning sickness.MOSQUITO BITES:

Before reaching for theinsect bite cream, try rubbing theaffected area with the inside of a

banana skin. Many people find itamazingly successful at reducingswelling and irritation.HANGOVERS

One of the quickest waysof curing a hangover is to make abanana milkshake, sweetenedwith honey. The banana calms thestomach and, with the help of thehoney, builds up depleted bloodsugar levels, while the milksoothes and re-hydrates your

    system.NERVES

Bananas are high in Bvitamins that help calm thenervous system..Overweight and at work? Studiesat the Institute of Psychology in

Austria found pressure at workleads to gorging on comfort foodlike chocolate and chips. Lookingat 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obesewere more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The reportconcluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need tocontrol our blood sugar levels bysnacking on high carbohydratefoods every two hours to keeplevels steady.ULCERS

    The banana is used as thedietary food against intestinaldisorders because of its softtexture and smoothness. It is theonly raw fruit that can be eatenw i t h o u t d i s t r e s s i n o v e r -c h r o n i c l e r c a s e s . I t a l s oneutralizes over-acidity andreduces irritation by coating thelining of the stomach.TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Many other cultures seebananas as a 'cooling' fruit thatcan lower both the physical ande m ot i ona l t e m pe ra t u re o fexpectant mothers. In Thailand ,for example, pregnant women eatbananas to ensure their baby isborn with a cool temperature.

So, a banana really is anatural remedy for many ills. Whenyou compare it to an apple, it hasFOUR TIMES the protein, TWICEthe carbohydrate, THREE TIMESthe phosphorus, five times thevitamin A and iron, and twice theother vitamins and minerals. It isalso rich in potassium and is one ofthe best value foods around somaybe it's time to change that well-known phrase to, A BANANA aday keeps the doctor away!

Bali is Running Out of Water

    B a l i C h a m b e r o fCommerce Ca l l s fo rWate r Ra t ion ing fo rI s l a n d ' s To u r i s mIndustry

The Badung Regencybranch of the IndonesianC h am b er o f C o m m erce(KADIN) has asked theProvincial Government of Balito introduce regulations limitingthe use of water by the Island'stourism industry.

KADIN is seeking controlson the amount of water that canbe used by HOTELS, villas, home stays and a number of

    other tourism-relatedindustries.

The chairman of KADIN-Badung, A.A. Ngurah AlitWiraputra, quoted by Bali Postsaid: The use of ground waterin large amounts by the tourismindustry is the reason that thereis now salt water intrusion oninland wells more than 5k i l o m e t e r s f r o m B a l i ' sshoreline. The demands forwater to support Bali's tourismnow exceeds 2,500 liters persecond, meaning that surfacesource of water are no longer asufficient supply.

The constructive andexploit ive use of water, according to Wiraputra, willdamage the hydrological cycle.Such is the state of Bali's water

    s u p p l y a n d t h e o v e r -consumption of both surfaceand ground water that Bali'sgeneral carrying capacity isat threat.

If we keep takingground water the salt waterincursion will increasefurther inland, warnedWiraputra.

The KADIN officialsuggest that Bali muststudy from Middle Eastern

    c o u n t r i e s t h a t u s eseawater for the needs of itstourist industry.

Wiraputra fears thatunless something is done tohalt salt-water intrusion in Baliby rationing the use of water forthe tour i sm indus t ry, acatastrophe awaits.

T h e u n c o n t r o l l e dconsumption of water will makeBali increasing porous andcreates great concern for thefuture. We have yet tothoroughly cons ider thedemand for water from thegeneral public and the need forsurface water for agriculture asBali depletes both its surfaceand land water resources.Because of this, we need aproper solution for this

    problem, declared Wiraputra.www.balidiscovery.com

With the second Test due to begin in Adelaide onDecember 12, followed by a nine day gap before theBoxing Day Test in Melbourne, the most likelyoutcome is that the first two games will be pushedback to allow Australia's cricketers more time to cometo terms with their loss. According to Mark Waugh, oneof Australia's selectors, Hughes would have resumedhis Test career in Brisbane. But on Saturday, as a

distraught Clarke spoke to the media, the minutiae ofinternational cricket's fixture list felt like a cruelirrelevance.

Only four days after Hughes was struck on theneck by a bouncer during a domestic game in Sydneyand only two days after he was pronounced dead as aresult of a catastrophic brain hemorrhage, the

Australian captain was called upon to deliver the mostpainful Press conference of his career. Choking backthe tears, Clarke said Words cannot express the losswe all feel as a team right now. To Greg, Virginia(Hughes's parents), Jason and Megan (his siblings),we share the deep pain you're feeling.

Las t n ig h t , Iasked Cricket Australiaif Hughesy's Australianone day internationalshirt number, 64, couldbe retired, to which theyagreed. That meansso much. His legacy oftrying to improve eachand every day will driveus for the rest of ourlives. Our dressingroom will never be the

same, we loved him and always will. Apart from whenhe was home on the farm with his beloved cattle,Hughesy was at his happiest playing cricket for hiscountry with his mates. Things were always put intoperspective when Hughesy said Where else wouldyou rather be, boys, than playing cricket for yourcountry?. We're going to miss that cheeky grin andthat twinkle in his eye. He epitomized what that BaggyGreen is about and what it meant to us all. The worldlost one of its great blokes this week and we are all thepoorer for it. Our promise to Hughesy's family is thatwe will do everything we can to honor his memory.

Clarke has received praise from many quartersfor the dignity and courage he has shown sinceHughes was felled at the SCG and t he former Australiacoach Mickey Arthur, who worked closely with bothbatsmen, voiced his thoughts. It's one thing a captainwould never think he'd have to do, he said. A captainof international cricket has so much responsibility butMichael's leadership has extended off the field thisweek and he seems to have been a real rock aroundthat team. They were always close, always together,Phil and Michael. Phil looked up to Michael and triedto prepare and go about his business in the sameway.

Wallabies end tour with loss to EnglandThe Wallabies will headinto a World Cup year onthe back of their worstEuropean tour in almosta decade after beingo v e r p o w e r e d b yEngland in their seasone n d i n g T e s t a tTwickenham. And coachMichael Cheika insists

Aus tral ia are not s hyi ngaway from what needsto be addressed overthe next ten months, including alack of belief and the muchmal igned scrum that wasr u t h l e s s l y e x p o s e d o nSaturday.

The Wallabies fell 26 to 17 infront of 82,031 fans on Saturdaywith the clear set piece dominanceof England, one of their World Cupgroup opponents proving thedifference in a match that finishedtwo tries apiece. Following defeatsto France and Ireland, theWallabies suffered three Testlosses during a spring tour for thefirst time since 2005, rounding out atumultuous year for Australianrugby. Cheika, who took the jobonly three days before the tourfo llowing Ewen McKenzie 'sresignation, admitted his side stillhad to come to grips with a newplaying style but was adamantprogress was being made by his

side. "It's a pattern I've seenbefore with teams I've beeninvolved with before whenchanging the shape of the team, said Cheika, who led the Waratahsto this year's Super Rugby title."The team probably just doesn'tbelieve in itself enough. "I definitelybelieve in the way it's headed."There's not going to be any panicat our end.

    "We're going to have to,Cheika said. "I think we've

improved a lot of areas on this touraround the way we've played thegame and the physical nature of thegame. But we're also not naive ofthe things that we need to improveand we're going to take the steps toimprove. Much of the pre matchfocus had centered on a possibleset piece mismatch and it so itproved on Saturday, with England'sscrum and maul a regular source ofpoints and penalties. England No.8

    h a l f , w i t h b o t hcoming on the back ofattacking scrums with theh o m e s i d e ' s b a c k scapitalizing on theirforwards' dominance witha smart kicking game. Afrustrated Cheika said

Australia would have tochange its scrum tactics toget in line with what heclaimed were dubiousones from England."We

    need to change some things.Perhaps a bit more wheeling orsomething because that seems tob e a c c e p t e d , C h e i k asaid."Perhaps we are just a little bittoo honest maybe in the scrum.

Preferring running rugby overkicking, they looked superb in openp lay a t t imes w i th s t r o n gcontributions from center MattToomua and Israel Folau, who hada strong game apart from a mistakethat led to Morgan's first t ry. BacksCooper, Nic White and KurtleyBeale tried to add some late sparkoff the bench but Australia'sdecision making in attack let themdown. Wallabies skipper MichaelHooper admitted it was a frustratingend to the tour following three pointdefeats to Ireland and France. "Itsucks. To have the feeling, knowingw e g o c l o s e , i s r e a l l ydisappointing, Hooper said.

Awards and two Ivor Novello Awards. He has had

more than 130 singles, albums and EPs make theUK Top 20, more than any other artist and holds therecord (with Elvis Presley) as the only act to make theUK singles charts in all of its first six decades(1950s2000s). He has achieved 14 UK No. 1singles (or 18, depending on the countingmethodology) and is the only singer to have had aNo. 1 single in the UK in 5 consecutive decades: the1950s through to the 1990s. In 2008, he celebratedhis 50th anniversary in music by releasing a greatesthits album, featuring the new track "Thank You for aLifetime", which reached number 3 in the UK singleschart. In November 2013, Richard released his latestalbum, The Fabulous Rock 'n' Roll Songbook, whichbecame the 100th album of his career.

Richard has never achieved the same impact in the

United States despite eight US Top 40 singles, including the million-selling "Devil Woman" and "WeDon't Talk Anymore", the latter becoming the first toreach the Billboard Hot 100's top 40 in the 1980s by asinger who had been in the top 40 in the 1950s,1960s and 1970s. In Canada, Richard achievedmoderate success in the 1980s with several albumsreaching platinum status. He has remained apopular music, film, and television personality in

Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, NorthernEurope and Asia, and he retains a follow ing in othercountries.

    Pill That Makes Farts Smell like ChocolateFrance has given theworld fragrant perfumea n d v e r y s t i n k yc h e e s e s , b u t t h ecountry's latest andg r e a t e s t o l f a c t o r ycontribution may be apill that makes fartssmell like chocolate.

The sweet smellingproduct is the creation ofChristian Poincheval, a 65year old inventor who hailsfrom the village of Gesvres andlooks like Santa Claus' youngerhippie brother.

Poincheval sells the pillsonline for around $12.50 for 60capsules. The web page promisesthe chocolate pills will "allow theuser to fart through to the NewYear in grand style. The chocolatepills are a new addition toPoincheval's odorific arsenal, which also includes pills that makefarts smell like roses or violets, andfart reducing powder for pets. Aswith most new creations,

necessity was the mother ofthis invention.

He was eating dinner withfriends in 2006 when he realizedthe group had caused a gas attackat the restaurant. "Our farts wereso smelly after the copious meal,we nearly suffocated," he told localmedia. "The people at the tablenext to us were not happy.Something had to be done."

It was the start of a longperiod of stinky researching, during which Poincheval madesome interesting discoveries."When we were vegetarian we

noticed that our gassmelt like vegetables, likethe odor from a cow pat,but when we started eatingmeat, the smell of theflatulence became muchdisagreeable," he said."We needed to inventsomething that made themsmell nicer"

Poincheval claimshis pills not only createchocolate scented farts,

they reduce intestinal gas andbloating thanks to ingredients likevegetable coal, fennel, seaweed, plant resin, bilberry, and cacao

zest. Since people tend to stufftheir bellies during the holidays,Poincheval figures his chocolatefart pills should be stuffed instockings.

"Some buy them becausethey have problems with flatulenceand some buy them as a joke tosend to their friends. Christmasalways sees a surge in sales," hesaid.
