KULNURA PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
1 May, 2019
Week 1 Term 2
Principal’s Message Welcome back to all our families and students for Term 2. We already have a full calendar for this term and please check our calendar dates on our school website. Important dates and information will also be disseminated through our Skoolbag app and email distribution list. Please advise our school office if your contact details change, whether it be a mobile phone contact change or internet service provider change. Our ANZAC day Service honouring Lance Sergeant Ray Gibson was a huge success with our local returned serviceman Cecil Small, Bill Douglas and Danny Willmott attending. Another returned serviceman Uncle Ray McMinn did the Acknowledgement to Country. Local Member of Parliament Lucy Wicks attended and Mr Greg Mawson President of Gosford RSL officiated the service. We had the 1952 Re-enactment Unit on parade and gave the service a special feeling among those who attended. The Unitt Family launched their release of Ray Gibson Memoirs and presented a copy to the school for our library. Ray was one of the first students enrolled at Kulnura Public in 1928. A special thanks goes to Hamish and Angus who represented our school at the Mangrove Mountain Memorial Club Anzac Service on Sunday 13 April 2019. Hamish and Angus marched with local service men and women and laid wreaths on behalf of our school in honour of those who served. Our school has gone through some restructuring due to falling numbers since 2018. We have lost an office day for Mrs Kylie Hickson. Mrs Jager has been reduced to a seven day fortnight and both ladies have organised their roster to try to have someone in the office each day. With the reduced hours we ask our community to be mindful of requests and expectations of school staff to cater for families’ needs. From this term on we need families to utilise all channels of communication for information required and be patient if our school is taking some time to address needs as they arise. If you have any queries please send

an email as best form of communication ([email protected]). We cannot guarantee a phone call will be taken if we are stretched for meeting deadlines with reduced hours for staff.
Our school is seeking parent helpers with daily reading for some of our students. We require parents to read with students on a daily basis. If you can afford an hour on any day over the fortnight please contact the school via email on [email protected]. This will be 9.10am each day except Thursdays on assembly week, when we can hold the reading immediately following assembly. This Friday, 3 May will be the Small Schools Cross Country at Central Mangrove Public School. A bus is organised to transport students to and from the venue. All students are expected to travel by bus to keep the cost of bus to a minimum. Regardless of the weather, the day will go ahead. Lunches were pre-ordered and a canteen will be available on the day. I take this opportunity to wish all of our students the best on the day and a reminder that participation is the key to a happy, healthy lifestyle in years to come.
Assemblies will be held fortnightly on Thursdays this term at 9:15am. Parents and community members are invited to stay for the assembly and view our future leaders and students receive recognition for their efforts. Our assembly will be even weeks starting next Thursday 9 May, 2019.
Finally, the stage overnight excursions are to be held in Term 3. The costs for these excursions are bound to have an impact on the family budget. If needed, please be on the front foot and arrange a payment plan through the school office. Both of these excursions must be paid in full by Friday 2 August, 2019 unless prior arrangements have been made.
I take this opportunity to thank all parents, families and community for your support and look forward to seeing everyone at events held this term. Steve Collins PRINCIPAL

Library News
Our sincere thanks to Mrs Janne Shoebridge for covering all our new books for the library. We receive a box of 50 new lexile books for the students each term. Janne covers all of these and the new books we buy through Scholastic Book Club and Book Fair. Mrs Shoebridge has also been assisting with the stocktaking process in the library. Thank you very much Janne for your time and support!
A number of our students enjoy borrowing
cookbooks from the library. P&C and Mrs Joan
Walpole have each, very kindly, donated to the
library a copy of the”90th Anniversary Cookbook”
which was produced last year. If you missed out
on purchasing a copy, here’s your chance to try
some favourite KPS recipes! Thank you, P&C
and Mrs Walpole.
The Stow family have given the library two
colourful cookbooks, which will appeal to both
children and adults alike. Please let any
enthusiastic cooks know these books are now
available in the library! Thank you to the Stow
family.
