A group from Division 6 was the successful bidder.

to conjure up a ghost in the Pilot Briefing Room!

All this followed by bunking in one of the many

made even more special by having Auxiliarist

Steve Johnson, a regular docent on the Hornet.

Twenty members from all three Division 6 Flotillas

took the newly revised Team Coordination Training

facilitated by Scott Galloway, SO-MT, and Wally

Smith, FSO-MT. It made for a lively educational

experience with four teams of five each analyzing

various patrol scenarios. VERY WORTHWHILE!

The New Member Academy was offered that same

afternoon to ten members. Training included:

PATROL - 26 JANUARY (Con't) Santa Cruz Fireboat - 30 January

Ed Boring on "Comms" / Wally Smith at the helm.

The Santa Cruz Fireboat is now in service!!!!

FC (67) Jack Sprow, an employee of the City of

Santa Cruz, arranged a meeting on the Fireboat

with four of the captains along with himself and

DCAPT Wally Smith. A tour and explanation of the

vessel's capabilities included a few highlights:

- Length 34'6", draft 44", beam 11'9",

displacement 19,000 lbs.

- 2 Caterpillar 3208 Marine Diesel engines @

203 horsepower

- Fuel capacity 200 gallons; range 190 miles

- (1) 500 GPM deck gun variable pattern

- Built in foam eduction system for class B fires

When offered a brief "cruise", both Jack and Wally

were eager to go!

The conversation included how can the AuxiliaryChuck at the helm with an ear-to-ear grin! After 26 years augment the fireboat crew. More discussions will

in the Navy, it's good to be back on the water! follow about "onboard" augmentation. Some

classroom training for captains and crew was

offered and it looks like it may come to pass. It

would be a hybrid of the BOATING SKILLS &

SEAMANSHIP course regularly offered to the

public. It would be tailored specifically to the Fire

Department's needs and level of crew experience.

PATROL - 31 JANUARY

OpFac 301219 answered the call for a "short term

request" from CG Sector San Francisco to provide

a vessel to assist in some training exercises

involving drops from aircraft from Air Station

Sacramento. A crew of four was mustered on

short notice (limited by the number of helmets on board!).
