Listening and Reading Both exams are at the end of year 11. Students can do foundation or higher. All questions and rubrics are in English. There is no French/German at all on the

listening paper, but one question in French/German on the higher reading paper.

Students only need to write two or three words per answer.

Higher listening exam : 40 minutes

Speaking There are three different types of

speaking task. Students do two different tasks. Each task takes 4-6 minutes. We usually do at least three so we can

enter the best marks. They can be done at any point over

the two years. You get up to 6 hours of lesson time to

prepare for your task.

Different Speaking Tasks Task 1: we discuss a picture

students bring in. Task 2: students give a 2-3 minute

presentation then the teacher asks some questions about it.

Task 3: students are given a stimulus (e.g. an advert for a leisure centre), which we discuss.

The lead up …. Students are told at the beginning of the unit that

they will be completing a speaking assessment at the end of the unit.
