Create a variety of new and original logos to f i t a company image.

Use only the tools of I l lustrator.

Set up a professional display for the company.

    Get feedback from outside sources.

    P R O C E S S

For my first logo I chose to do a logo using strictly text. I aligned both lines of type

because I l iked the clean look. I made the word Magazine a lighter grey color to

give the logo contrast. The second logo was a lot more difficult due to the background

behind the text. I started with a grey square in the background and to give the imagecontrast I added a maroon triangle and lowered the transparency. I chose a bolder font

to match the dynamic background. For the last logo I wanted a lighter look that wasnt

so in your face. I started with a light brown box and added the white l ine for detail. The

font was a lot softer, but sti l l had a confident look. I chose to center align the logo and

did not justify it because this looked more approachable as a logo.

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure.

Incorporate quality images, one clipped and text-wrapped.

Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs.

    P R O C E S S

I chose a vertical tri-fold brochure because I l iked the sleek and simple look. I made the

cover black and white because I wanted bold but professional. On the inside I kept the

color palette white and gray and let the pictures be really attention grabbing. I wanted

a lot of colorful images. I used the clipped image on the very first panel because Ithought i t looked invit ing. I clipped it in Photoshop and used the effects to make the line

clean and clear. To format the paragraphs correctly I added some paragraph styling

to my text. At first they were just solid blocks of text, but once I added the formatting it

was much more pleasing to the eye and easier to read. Overall I wanted the look to be

    simple and straightforward.

I created this new logo as a text only logo. Once I had the logo I started my letterhead.

I chose to left align the type because I l ike the white space. I l ike the contrast in the

font sizes and font weight. I also added from the desk of in italics because it addeda softness to the letterhead and personalized it. Init ially the bottom was black, but I

changed it to grey because it does not draw your eye as much as the black did. I

wanted it to be subtle, not detract from the header.

At first I had the logo tak ing up almost the who le back of the card, bu t then I swi tched

the background color from white to black, and then minimized the size of the text and I

really l iked that a lot more. It looked a lot less fun and a lot more professional. The otherside I kept consistent with the left align theme and kept i t really simple because that is

the look this business would prefer.

    P R O C E S S

First, I created four sketches of different layout possibil i t ies. Once I decided what I

wanted, I used InDesign to format the text and images. I used a bold text to make the

tit le stand out and gray rectangles to put the emphasis on the ti t le and add contrast to

the page. At first my body copy was large, but I lowered the pixel size to keep it small.I tried to make the eye flow from top to bottom and make the fl ier enjoyable to look at,

but sti l l informative. Adding white space to my fl ier allowed me to keep certain items that

pertained to one another in the same area, and made it easier to read. The rectangles

are repeated throughout the page, as is the text that is used. The clean lines in the

images and text make the flier professional and clear.

After inser ting all of my text, I l inked up my exte rnal CSS to my HTML document and

began changing how the background curved and turned it into a straight angle

because I thought i t looked more professional. I then changed all of the colors of the

text to black, gray, or white; I also changed the background color to contrast the fontcolor. I then used the image tag to link my logo jpeg to the webpage and centered it

to line up with the title To & Fro Magazine Logo at the very top of my page. I chose

to keep the header and heading a sans-serif font and kept the body copy a serif

font, which provided a good amount of contrast in the fonts. Padding is always really

difficult to figure out, but managed to space things out just right and align things well.

The idea for my advertisement came from my image. I found the image of the shoes

first, and really thought theyd look great on a color page. Once I had successfully

scanned my image, I was able to remove the background from each of the shoes and

start placing them creating a repeating pattern. After that, I placed the event informationdate, place, and time in a good proximity to one another. I came up with the idea for a

price tag, which contrasted the bright shoes and told the reader exactly what this poster

was all about. Microsoft Word has a lot of features I never knew about!

I took this image outside of the library using a Canon Powershot. I took it with my

husband Paul outside of the library just before sunset. Once I had the shot I wanted

I pulled it into Photoshop and cropped it and changed the resolution to make an

appropriate looking 6 x 6 photograph. After that I was able to desaturate the entire photowith the exception of Pauls eyes and his tie. I adjust the levels a tad to improve the

The first thing I did was crop the image of London to fi t an 8.5 x 11 canvas. I then put

the Union Jack image on top of the skyline image and added a mask. After that, I

blurred the edges of the flag to make it blend nicely with the background image. I putthe quote and the headline over the top of that flag using the sans serif and slab serif

type. Lastly, I added a filter to the London image and blurred out everything except Big

Ben, which pulls the viewers eye there.
