Dear Gateway family,
After the New Year we are going to start a new series
called “PI2 – Pray, Invest, Invite.” It is based on the core
Christian belief that we are called to share the good
news of the gospel to every person we encounter. The
“churchy” word we often use for this is evangelism. Un-
fortunately, however, that word has gotten a bit of a bad
name. When thinking of evangelism, we often think of
people with big signs that say things like “The End is
Near!” But evangelism should be something that is
completely natural, not contrived.
Just think about this for a second – when you see a
great movie, or go to a new restaurant with great food,
or find a new app that is really cool, or a new diet and
exercise plan that is fun and engaging, you’re compelled
to share it with others. And those are just little things;
inconsequential things; even mundane things.
So if we are so quick to share the latest news with our
friends and family, why is it that it is so hard to share?
A recent Barna Research poll asked a group of non-
Christians one question –
“If you were invited to
church by a friend,
would you go?” 82%
said “yes!”
But when it comes to sharing our faith, that’s not so
easy! We often second guess ourselves wondering
whether it’s the right time to share our faith or, worse, if
we say the wrong thing, turn them off of God, or even
offend them by opening up about matters of faith. Per-
haps it’s safer to just keep quiet.
But you see, for the Christian, we believe that a life in
Christ is so transformational, so life-giving, so earth-

We are very excited that Gateway is gearing up to launch
our brand new ministry called "Life Groups" which officially
starts on January 1st.
Our hope as Council is that this ministry would become the
“hub” of our ministry – the way in which we care for the
needs of one another as a church.
You can register for a Life Group in January! www.gatewaycrc.org/lifegroups
shattering, that we cannot stop in sharing it with
others. It has truly changed our lives!
So even though we are not starting this series for
another 3 months, we want to start encouraging
members of Gateway to join us in a prayer-filled
journey in preparation for this series.
Here is what we want to encourage you to do for the
next 3 months:
Think of at least four people in your life who don’t
know Jesus – whether that be a friend, family
member, co-worker, or neighbor – and simply
start praying for them.
That’s it! Commit to praying for them every day, by
name, for the next 3 months.
One thing you can also expect is that as a staff, we are
going to join you in your prayer journey. Every week
we are going to reach out to 5 families in our church
and ask them if there is any way we can be praying for
them. We will also ask you if you would like us to be
praying for people in your life who are far from God.
We want to lift up their names to God too! We firmly
believe that there is power in prayer.
Will you join us in praying for God to do a good work in
the hearts and lives of men and women who do not
yet know the name of Jesus?
In Christ,
Pastor Justin and the entire Gateway staff
Here is the Connection Card we are going to eventually hand out to every member of Gateway once we start this
new series. For now, please fill out, cut it out and place on your fridge as a reminder to pray.
Starting September 15
LIFE Group registration opens: January 1
ONLY 2 MORE FOR THE SEASON Nov 3 Nov 10
Coming in January… Gateway, Living Hope and Trinity CRC’s
will be joining forces and setting up 6
evenings for worship, food and discus-
sion for ALL young adults.
We will be hosting this once a month, rotating church
locations bringing our young adults together for study,
worship, food and fellowship.
Theme: Apologetics
Apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia,
meaning to give an answer or defense, specifically of
Christian truth claims. We will bring in top speakers
to answer some of life’s toughest questions allowing
us to give an answer for what we believe.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available.

Have you wondered what’s going on with young adults today?
College and University students today are dealing with a lot of change. As they enter this stage of life called “emerging adulthood”, transitioning to post-secondary from high school is difficult for many students. In the
midst of all the new things they are experiencing, some young adults also struggle in their faith. Why is that?
“Renegotiating Faith” research sought to answer this question: How can we help young adults who are transi-tioning from high school to the next phase in life stay connected to church and faith?
Here are just a few interesting statistics from the report:
Half (51%) of those who attended a church youth group weekly as a teen said they attend religious services at least weekly as an adult, compared to just 18% of those who attended youth group one to three times a month or 9% of those who attended
youth group less than monthly
Shelter costs have risen dramatically in the last few decades. Between 1971 and 2017 the real cost of rented ac-commodations has risen 264%, while the real cost of owned accommo-dations has risen 584%. This means a far greater percentage of this gen-erations income needs to be di-
rected to shelter costs than previous genera-tions. Those Young Adults that felt unable to break in-to youth group social circles usually reported leaving youth group and the church.

Gateway Youth Ministry is heading back to Vin-
cente Guerrero, Baja California, Mexico! The youth
are delighted to go on your behalf to bring the
love of Christ through our words and our deeds.
This ministry experience is scheduled, Lord will-
ing, from March 14-23, 2020.
Here is what the team will be doing:
Home Building and Evangelism Outreach
Many of the families living in Mexico earn a very
low income and are unable to afford adequate
food and housing. Families often live in very small
shelters made of cardboard, plastic, pallets and
salvaged building materials. When we build a
house for a family in Baja we are breaking the
poverty cycle, improving the health and educa-
tion opportunities for the children and giving
them more hope and an ability to have dreams
for the future. Families understand that it is be-
cause of Jesus’s love for them that they are being
blessed with a home. Our goal as a team is to build 1
house for 1 family!
What else will the team do?
They will also participate in ministry at Rancho de Cris-
to, Dorothy's Women's Shelter, Dump Ministry, Child
Evangelism and a whole lot more. We will also attend
a lively Mexican church service (translated into Eng-
lish), enjoy local culture and food, plus spend an after-
noon at the beach and shop for souvenirs on the way
back to the US.
A full week of ministry and fun!

Youth Ministry News Update:
All of our 13 youth Mentor Leaders have jumped into
this season of ministry with much excitement. On aver-
age we have about 50 youth attending, enjoying great
food, a lot of laughs and a Bible Study that either digs
them deep in the Book of Mark or looks at different as-
pects of how to read the Bible in proper context.
As a ministry we stick to a relational, small group
rhythm:
1st Thursday: Bible Study
2nd Thursday: Church Activity Night
3rd Thursday: Bible Study
4th Thursday: Mentorship Night
There is no shortage of energy and excitement at
Youth. If you get a chance, please thank our many,
wonderful Mentor Leaders who are intentionally invest-
ing into the lives of your teen(s).
