We are an arts integration school. Our curriculum is aligned with the arts in a meaningful way. Lessons include:

\ Tableau - forming a still picture with your body. Forming letters with our body is an example of this art form.

\ Math and Visual Arts - using artwork to identify geometric shapes

\ Poetry and Music – using rhythm to develop phonemic awareness

Homework is posted the first week of the month on the KP website. Please do two or more activities a week. All homework is returned at the end of the month in your child’s folder. The purpose of homework is for practice and extension of learning.

Homework will begin in the month of October.

-If your child is going home differently than his/her normal routine, please put a note in your child’s folder. Do NOT email same-day changes. Please call the main office instead.

-Students are expected to arrive between 9:10 and 9:20. Upon arrival, students should line up outside of their classroom. Students arriving after 9:25 are considered late and must go to the office for a pass.

Student Absences

Parents are asked to telephone the school prior to 9:15 a.m. when a child is absent for any reason. We have an answering machine, so you can leave your child's name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. You can also send an email to [email protected]. The child

must bring a note from home upon his/her return.

School Hours

• First Day of school is September 5, 2017.• School Hours 9:25 a.m.-3:50 p.m.• Teacher Hours 8:45-4:15 pm• Students Enter the Building 9:10 a.m.• Morning Announcements 9:25 a.m. • Instruction begins 9:30 am (Tardy Bell rings)

• Early Dismissal 1:20 p.m.• Delayed Opening 11:25 a.m. • The late bell rings at 9:25. Students arriving to school after this bell rings must

report to the office and order lunch and get a pass.• School Dismissal begins at 3:50 p.m. – Kindergarten will dismiss at 3:45.

Conferences & Room Parents

\ Conferences are held in the month of November. Each teacher will send out a signup genius link in order for you to be able to choose a 15 minute time slot for the conference.

\ For each class there are 1-2 room parents. Room parents support the teacher and organize other parents/guardians to plan events for the class throughout the school year. There are two parties during the year, Halloween and Valentine’s Day. If you are interested, please email your child’s teacher.

\ On your child’s birthday, she/he will be on KPTV and will receive a birthday pencil and wear a birthday crown. You are more than welcome to send in a non-food treat. It will be passed out at the end of the day. Examples: pencils, stickers, bouncy balls, silly bands, etc. Goodie bags are not needed.

\ Please let KP know if your child has food allergies. The Cafeteria has a “peanut and nut free” table.
