Sewentig jaar is ’n lang tyd.

deesdae so maklik skei nie. “Wanneerjy voel jy wil skei, soek weer die mooiin mekaar toe julle getrou het. Byt vas.Skei maak seer en laat letsels,” sê sy.“As julle lief is virmekaar, moet julle

mekaar baie vergewe. Ons almal maak

foute.

Volgens lt.kol.

THE third edition of the Core Sokkie Jol pre-sented by Sector 9, went down in torrentialconditions at the Die Vrieskas BlueWater Es-tate on July 18.

The Sokkie Jol is a fun skateboarding eventthat combines downhill riding with obstacles(turns, berms and ramps). The day startedwith two-hours of practice runs for the ridersto get used to thewet conditions. Theweathercouldn’t deter the riders who attacked thecourse with gusto. When the 43 entrantswere thoroughly used

to the course (and thoroughly soaked, manywearing black bags to keep them dry) the rac-ing got underway with a time trial. Fromthere the top 32went into aman-on-man, elim-ination race format. The ‘godfather’ of downhill racing in South

Africa, Kent Lingeveldt, who travelled from

CapeTown for the event. “Sure it’s dangerousin thewet, but only as dangerous as youmakeit,” he commented during the early runs. “It’snew tar here, so even though it’s wet, it’sslightly grippy so cats can still go fast. Ob-viously not as fast as if it were dry, but it’scontrollable,” he said.Tyron Coetzee took the win. “It was very

interesting coming up here to help out withthe setup. It was dry and I was amped, but to-day was pouring with rain, so it was wet andslippery,” he said afterwards. “There were alot of guys sliding out. It was really intense,so you really had to think about what you’redoing.”

ICY water that measured between 11 to 12 de-gree Celsius, heavy rain and strongwinds didlittle to deter the defending Infood Blu ColdWater Classic title-holder, Rebecca Newman, when she completed the 7.5 km swim in twohours at Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bayon Saturday.Newman swam the event according to

Channel rules, which meant she could onlywear a speedo type costume, goggles and asingle swimming cap.“It was really tough out there today and it

was very cold, but I felt confident and pushedthe pace just after the 5 km mark and thingsworked out for me,” said Newman. The first man home was Iain Geddes, who

has a Robben Island crossing under his belt- experience which helped in the chilly saltwater canals of Marina Martinique. Geddesfinished in 2 hours 6 minutes.Full results can be found at www.swim-

Wet andmuddy times at JBay Funduro

Now in its third year, Slake Adventures once again hosted the JBay Winterfest Funduro.Torrential downpours the previous night before had made the course muddy and slippery.Much of the 15-kilometre route featured tight bush single-track tunnels and both flat andtechnical sections which offered something for all levels of riders.
